Hard to find something positive Blashill has added to this team. He hasn't figured out the NHL. If next year is the same he should be fired mid season. Pretty obvious when watching this team is poorly coached. Idk why people expect Blashill to learn the ropes with the wings. Can't spend 4 years with a bad coach. It doesn't benefit anybody but himself

I agree he was given an improved team from what Babcock had which he was close to getting past the eventual Eastern SC finalist

As bad as todays game was I think Blashill is the right coach for this team. He openend the Wings up for a more attractive, offensive style. It might fall flat this year but I take Blashills approach over Babcocks defensive first style any time.

And by the way : It's not over yet. We still have all the chances to make the playoffs.

I agree, we do have a chance to make the playoffs. But the better question in my opinion is now, should we want to? I doubt that.

Addon:

This all started with the Toronto game at home. Babcock gave teams the blueprint to beat us. Extremely aggressive forecheck on our defense, which is one of the worst in the league, if not the worst.

All losses since have followed this pattern. This can easily be seen by examining how Pittsburgh changed their tactics from period 1 to period 2 & 3.

What's with the goaltending on this team too? Last season Howard gets injured after starting the season with an AS selection then comes back and implodes. Lucky Mrazek was able to take over. Then this season Mrazek starts out being included in Vezina talks, gets sick, and hasn't been the same since. Howard also seems unable to help. Is it the defence playing a major role in this? Is Howard done and Mrazek still not fully ready? Both cases don't bode well.

The defense has always been bad since Lidstrom left. So using defense as an argument is about a 3 year old argument. It's definitely the goalies. They're simply unable to bail out the team like they used to.

I'd say the whole team is the problem , forwards keep coughing up the puck and putting us on the back foot, hard to get anything going with that scenario we have no D that can really control the play, and our NM duo are having a bad spell at the same time which isn't helpful to say the least. Some strong mirror looking is in order for half of this roster and the other half are punching above their weight which seems to have caught up with them

Ah no he isnt..... Here are all the rookie goalies this year. As you can see Mrazek is not on it

As far as I'm concerned he's still a rookie...sorry.

Indeed it is the entire team for sure. But what I meant was that defense has always sucked but the goalies still were able to bail em out in big stretches over the last few years.

Now they simply aren't able to. So now we're at a point where the entire team (including the goalies) are playing terribly. Although our secondary scoring was starting to impress me that last few games (Sheahan, Glendog, Helm).

I'm confused, we have struggled to score goals all year...our style is still the same, if anything we are worse offensively under Blashill.

On that list of rookie goalies I see two that shouldn't be on there if Mrazek isn't. John Gibson and Dustin Tokarski have been around for a couple years. I guess it goes by games played or something, cause this is Mrazek's first full NHL season. He was only up last season as a minor league callup when Gustavsson/Howard were out.

Can anybody here name for me one player from last year's team that has been better this year. This is the biggest kick in the gut for me and why I'm starting to question Blashill a bit. Holland is, of course, dead to me already.

Sure. Never said that the changes produced more goals. One doesn't exclude the other.

Two examples that stood out to me this season : Our defenseman are allowed to pinch more often. And our center often goes deeper into the zone instead of securing high against breakouts.

Smith. By a mile.

First of all.........Ken Holland should have the dignity to resign or be involuntarily be fired. That's fairly obvious. Either way is fine with me. No improvement and lots and lots of money (OPM) misspent. Babcock saw this coming and probably one of the reasons that he "bailed". Secondly.........Blashill is way, way over his head coaching in the NHL and that's also fairly obvious. The only way to (finally) get rid of these "characters" is to either cancel your season tickets or boycott the home games. Then........they'll get the message but (unfortunately) not before then. After watching today's game, all this is quite apparent and the irony to all this is that 50 to 60% of the players on this current team would never have played for Scotty. Never.
