GMRwings1983 8,788 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 http://globalnews.ca/news/2621580/noon-rally-as-edmonton-oilers-say-goodbye-rexall-hello-rogers-place/ Always enjoyed watching games at that stadium, especially those playoff games against Dallas. Kind of reminded me of the Pacific Coliseum where Vancouver used to play. Wish I got to attend a game there as it seemed like a great hockey arena. Of course, that's where those Oiler teams played during their heyday when they scored like 8 goals a game. Also the site of Yzerman's last game.
Number19 159 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 When the Oilers are good it's a terrifying place to play. 2006 *shivers*Seeing those old timers wearing that s***ty modern orange jersey also gives me shivers.

Anything is better than that teardrop jersey they used to have. By most accounts, this was the favorite arena of most NHL players when it came to ice quality. frankgrimes 1,836 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 Well another historic arena will soon be getting nuked in favor of another tax payer financed over the top lifeless place. Why didn't they just decide to refurbish the whole thing? 1 GMRwings1983 reacted to this

Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 Nice to see. That place was home to some of the all time greatest teams in hockey history.
GMRwings1983 8,788 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 Unless you're chained-up in a 'gimp suit' in some basement, or saddled with 8 kids in a trailer park, or fighting overseas in our armed forces - there ain't nuthin stopping you from going out on your own, and attending some games...Road trip it - hop on the Amtrak - hop a red eye flight...C'mon GMR - we married guys with kids (minus the gimp suit - although chained up) envy the opportunity you young'ins have to do some fun stuff...Get out there man! #1 Cost of a refurb isn't that much less than a new place (even a study was done to see what the cost would've been to renovate the Joe). #2 Glam of a new place. #3 Taxpayers footing a significant portion of the bill - so why should Katz care? Two problems with that. 1. I'm rather travel with someone (not to mention I'm lazy about stuff like that) 2. I'm worried that Pronger's wife may be right. GMRwings1983 8,788 Report post Posted April 7, 2016 (edited) Don't tell me you're the type that needs to go to a movie with someone? All joking aside - I'd suggest you go it alone - seriously...In fact - I prefer to travel by myself - that way I can go see what I want to see - eat where I want to eat - drink booze till late in the evening (or morning) in my boxers on the 23rd floor in my hotel room in the Greektown Hotel/Casino overlooking downtown Detroit The last time I went with my wife and kids to a game in Detroit (only had 2 then) - Leafs were in town on a Saturday night - we had to leave after the 1st period cause my kids freaked out due to all the noise at the Joe. Then again - I spent several months in Europe by myself - so traveling alone is what I prefer. EDIT - $5 says Pronger's wife is probably a blonde who got lost in the West Edmonton Mall... Must have been a while back when there actually was noise at the JLA. Hopefully, posters who actually went to a game at Rexall Place will join in this thread. Maybe Det # 1 since he lives in Calgary (same thing). From all accounts, it looked like a loud arena that was smaller and more hockey friendly than current arenas. barabbas16 499 Report post Posted April 8, 2016 We don't have any shots on goal, but let's dipsy doodle around and then turn the puck over instead of taking shots.
barabbas16 499 Report post Posted April 8, 2016 And we don't want it at all. At no point in the game did anyone for Detroit actually want to win. ...judging by their performance, anyway
