ECQF Game 1 Post-GDT: at Tampa Bay 3, Red Wings 2

Seven pages of fans trying to talk themselves into thinking we have a chance. We don't. TB was faster and more physical then we were, they are missing their 2 best players, and they still won.

1 game and couple defensive breakdowns led to there goals. Couple corrections and we are fine. It was actually a very even game..

Where did this Smith love come from? Do we really need Smith taking four unnecessary minors during the game? Or smoothly handling the puck....straight to a Tampa stick?

Believe me, there is no Smith love coming from me. I think he's a dope too. However, Ericsson is ******* awful. That s*** with Nesterov last night was embarrassing to watch. He turns the puck over a lot, but can't make a good stretch pass or skate the puck out of trouble like Smith can. I think we'd be better off with Smith over Ericsson, but make no mistake it is the lesser of two evils.

I'm just straight up sick of vets being allowed to be bad night in and night out, whereas if one of the kids make one single mistake they are either scratched or barely played.

There is zero accountability on the vets, and the kids aren't given any room to grow what so ever.

Haha one bad goal, a couple of great saves and people are already calling for an unproven guy, who basically scrapped the bed since new year. Green was the best player on the ice would be nice, if he could show up like that more often.

As much as I hate to say it, Z as a top 6 center is done. Blashill needs to shelter his minutes the guy is running on fumes right now. The PP is still crap, well that has to be expected but it would be nice if someone would just take the risk and unleash a onetimer like Kucherov did that was one heck of a lasercanon.

Z and Pasha isn't going to work against Tampa, that line is to slow for their speedy offense. I would shelter Z's minutes or play him as a third line center. Can't believe his contract has still 4 years left scary to think about it.

What unproven guy are yout talking about? Petr? Wasn't he our starting goalie and got us to 7 games against this team

All you saying Z is done. Not that I don't disagree, but I remember a couple months or so ago when I said "Z should retire" and "we have 5 more years of him" I caught holy hell, even got a 7 day suspension arguing about it. I even called him Old Man Logan lots of times. Nice of you all to join me on the wagon!

I remember a thread earlier this year where I suggested trading him for Thornton (Joe, not Shawn), and people said they wouldn't. I wonder how many still feel the same way after Thornton scored 82 points in 82 games?

Zetterberg, talent wise, is where Yzerman was in his last few years. Difference is, Yzerman wasn't on the top line and we had Datsyuk and Zetterberg as young stars carrying the load. This team has no young stars so we keep Zetterberg on the top line role when he clearly shouldn't be there. It's sad to watch the decline of a player and the decline of an organization that doesn't have a future lined up.

Howard stole more than enough games while Mrazek gave them away, 2 minutes 2 goals and other stuff. But this is a post game not a goaltending thread.

This was a great chance to steal one now let's see how game 2 works out but getting outmuscled by Tampa is embarrassing there are so many changes needed in the off season it's not even funny.

Z was again a shadow no drive, no energy I'm starting to believe he is playing through a tough injury. Stevie played on one leg and willed this team to the cup. I fully expect him on a third line role next year.

It's sad to watch the decline of a player and the decline of an organization that doesn't have a future lined up.

Well the sad part is the Wings management didn't do anything about it and now it's happening before our eyes . This could be the last playoff berth for some time and sadly Pasha's last one

Our D was horrendous last night (again). Our D is flat out slow. We win very, very few races to the corners to battle for pucks. By the time our D gets to the corner, their forwards have the puck and are making are making plays. To be even more specific....E was horrible (again) last night. Constantly out of position. So slow....and that's a bigger problem because when he is out of position, he can't recover. Can't clear the puck. Can't clear anyone out of the front of our net. Isn't physical. He's in such bad shape (I think he knows it as well), he provides zero offense. Not that D are supposed to provide tons of offense, but he doesn't even shoot from the blue line when he's wide open and has a semi clear lane?? Lost in space. I'm done with him...I wish Blash would be as well.

Does anyone remember the Michel Therrien rant from 2006 when he was the Pens head coach....saying "at times I think they are trying to be the worst defensive squad in the league"? That's pretty much how I feel. Here's a link for those that want to hear a head coach tell it like it is...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agL3NHgb8Rk At the end he jokes about the only physical guy on this team is Talbot "who's about 5 foot 8 or something".

Valtteri Filppula said Henrik Zetterberg told him he'd slashed his hand & "don't do that again" at end of Game 1.

per Helene St. James

I didn't hear Filppula's name mentioned last night. Surprised he's still on the team after the season he had.

Our defense doesn't have an identity. They're not good offensively or defensively. They don't move the puck well. Even if we traded Kronwall for Suter tomorrow, we'd still have 5 other defenseman who are suspect at times.

At the end of the day, we played a very good road game.

If that game happens 10 times, we probably win 7 of them... And then no-one complains.

If there is an issue or a question mark, it has to be in net. It takes 16 wins to bring the Stanley Cup home - is Howard capable of stealing even one? We have seen Mrazek do it.

I love the rhetoric about how Tampa isn't even that good, but we still lost. What does that say about our team coaching staff?

The way we limped into the playoffs says plenty enough. Not many people see us winning the series and even less see us advancing beyond that.

IF....IF....we lose on Friday, I'd say it's time to give all of the young guys that we played at times during the regular season but now are refusing the play them, a shot. Significant minutes. Give Tampa a different look, give the young guys a chance to turn this around, and most importantly, get them some playoff experience which will be valuable down the road.

I'm thinking we'll win on Friday, but IF we lose it's time to start getting long term value out of this series. I realize we'd be coming back to home ice, only down 0-2, "lots of hockey left", "it takes 4 games to win a series"', "anything can happen", etc... Although much stranger things have happened, I just don't see this team (the team that was on the ice last night) pulling out of a 0-2 hole to go on and win this series.

I hope like hell we win, but being realistic.
