Stamkos is a no-brainer, even with the clot issue. 1) I think there are multiple kinds of blood clot issues, not all of them are dangerous enough to be fatal risks, but I'm not sure. 2) If, God forbid, something did happen to him, he's young enough to not hurt us with a cap recapture penalty if he retires. He's light years ahead of any other talent available, it's not even close, so Holland has to make a push.

I feel like I've seen it all now that there are posts on how some would rather have Radulov than Stamkos.

Lol. True.

Stamkos when at his best, has been regardes as the 2nd or 3rd best player. I guess you really shouldn't pass on that.

But I do think our chance of signing Radulov+Okposo is higher than getting Stamkos.

Radulov can be had for one year 3-5 mill .... Stamkos would cost 10+ cap hit for 7 years

That's why you see people choosing radulov ... Stamkos agrees to come here for one year 3-5 per different story , we both know that would never happen

I wouldn't rather have Radulov or Okposo over Stamkos, however I'm not sure how I would feel about paying him $10.5M until 2024. What are we going to pay Larkin, Mantha and company in a few years if he's making that kind of money? If we're spending that kind of cap on a player, I'd prefer it be spent on a defenseman. In saying that, if we landed Stamkos, I wouldn't be too upset...

Yuck it up all you want, but there's a real possibility that Stamkos will go the same route as Parise. He will have a handful of elite level seasons, get paid out of proportion to his current value, and then regress back to a good but not great player. I don't want a good player making 10-11 million bucks on this season. Its way to prohibitive. I'd much rather have two good players making 5-6 million apiece.

Says who? It's cute people think he will walk away from KHL money for a 3-5 million dollar contract.

Stamkos is a franchise player just entering the prime years of his career. If he is willing to play for your hockey team for 7 years at 10 million per, you sign him. As would any GM in the league.

If a GM had the luxury of choosing between Stamkos for 70 million over 7 years, or Radulov at 1 year for 3-5, guess what? Every damn one of them chooses Stamkos.

Besides a top dman, what is this teams biggest need? Answer: a guy who scores goals. Stamkos scores them. A lot. More than Radulov can ever dream of. He is also a franchise center. If you haven't noticed, we've been lacking a true #1 center ever since the decline of the eurotwins has begun.

Radulov's "KHL money" is currently worth around $4 million USD from what I've read.. And he said its not about the money (don't they all though?).

Point is, who knows what kind of money he's looking for/will get until he signs. I think he wants term more so than money.. Just a guess now that he has a child. But I don't think he'll get it. I wouldn't mind him at a year or two prove it type deal..

Agreed that stamkos at 10 mill/7 years is very worth it. Especially giving up nothing to get him. I'd be stoked if we manage it

Cute ? What leverage does he have ? He's been gone for years and let's be honest he's probably coming back to the NHL cause the russian ruble is worthless now

he knows he won't find a team to give more than a 2 year deal max ... Your gonna tell me someone's gonna give him 5 mill x 5? Won't happen

He doesn't have much leverage

Radulov had a bad attitude in Qc and he was primadona in Nashville... now he seems burned in KHL so I would stay away from Radu.

Okposo is playing with Tavares so it helps a lot... something around 5M$ should be enough for him but I don't expect him to put same numbers unless playing with Crosby, Kopitar or McDavid type of center.

Stamkos, franchise player that can play either forward position. Shoots right, skates well and can score 40 goals easily. Best goal scorer after Ovechkin in the NHL. Difference between Radulov and Stamkos is Errorson/Q contract...

Backes is having great playoff so far. Scoring, physical... Would love to have him in Detroit but can't see Blues letting him go elsewhere.

My vote goes to Stamkos

The salary cap really needs to go up with these guys expecting 10M a year

Seriously the cap needs to be atleast 95 million by the end of next season these players are insane but it's not like teams can't afford it

Who are all "these guys" that are going to inflate the cap to 95 mil in a year?

I think you guys are overreacting a bit.

This isn't the norm. This is an exceptional player and case.

If we signed Stamkos and he continued to have bloodclot problems - how much would that hurt us? That's a true question not statement by question (like how many roads must a man walk down...).

My impression about blood clots (which, admittedly, is from little knowledge) is that it seems like it's something that forces you out of the game or your version isn't as bad and won't effect performance. Or is it something that would make him miss a bunch of games regularly? Or will the blood thinners effect his ability to train and his stamina? If it's the first option, than the worst case scenario is he goes to LTIR and Ilitch gives a 10 mill yearly donation to Stamkos and we aren't strapped with the caphit. If it's one the other options, the cruel part of me wants him to go to Toronto and foil their rebuild.

Well it means Benn and Seguin will be expecting 10M per... Toews getting 10M per year means Bergeron could ask for something close. Toews and Kane signed benchmark deals, anybody close to their level is now asking that much or should be asking for that much Edited by joesuffP

If the doctors say that his blood clot issue wont be recurring and if Detroit is one of the teams he was interested in.. I'd go for Stamkos over Radulov and Okposo. I think I've been back and forth for like the 10th time in my head about this but... Stamkos is one of the best centers in the world. Building a team around a guy like him would be incredible. Worst case scenario he goes on LTIR. But the worst case scenario with Radulov is he doesn't produce and we pay him 5 million a year for 3 years or something. With Stamkos, as long as he's healthy you're guaranteed some good production.

its hard i mean it takes more than just one guy to win a cup i would love stamkos but if 3 or 4 guys improve the teams overall performance wouldnt you want them instead of betting the farm on one star player that might not fix the overall problem?? we need at least a top D a proven goal scorer and a good 2nd or 3rd winger could this team do that if we signed Stamkos to a big deal? it would take a couple years to build around him it might work but you dont want to waste his prime years so its hard to say do we have anyone now besides Larkin AA and mantha we can build around Stammer?

Abedlkader Nyquist Tatar... You know the proven players already on the team? Lmao I say pass on Stamkos cause one forward isn't gonna negate how s***ty our blue line is

l agree we need blue line to get better but Stamkos is another tier than those 3

Can't believe what I'm reading here people would rather have a known lockerroom cancer (Radulov) and some good - but not Stammer good - players instead of an elite center not even in his prime yet? Yes, the Wings priority #1 needs to be the blueline at all costs but other than drafting into the top 10 or trading for Trouba there is nobody available so the options here are (sadly) limited.

BUT all Stamkos would cost is money, guys of his ilk usually don't make to UFA and people would pass on that opportunity? Seriously the Wings also need to replace an elite #1 center in Pasha because the truth is Z's top 6 center days are over and if Larkin takes a bit of a step back, the Wings would be without a number 1 center. So Stammer would make a lot of sense. The funny thing is, I don't even expect to sign here but taking the afore mentioned guys over him? Wow that's just insane.

Regardless if Wings were listed as one of Stamkos' interested teams. Holland would go for him. He's not the type to pass up on a top 3 player.

So regardless of what folks fantasize, the NHL GMs play their cards differently than we do.

But like I said. Realistically we have a higher chance of ended up with Radulov + Okposo. But don't kid yourself into thinking Holland doesn't prefer Stamkos

People seem to be wondering about the severity of the blood clot and whether it could return.

Stamkos's clot is not like other blood clot stories you've heard before.

Timonen, Fleischman and Dupuis all were genetically predisposed to have blot clots. Stamkos is not.

His was most likely caused by trauma which would mean that after treating this, he should be no more likely to get a clot than anyone else.

You can hear Bob McKenzie talk about it here. It's actually quite interesting.
