Jesus another buy out??

I know a lot of people hate him but I can't believe we couldn't find a taker for him with us eating say a mill per ... Dallas?

I just hope if he's gone it's by trade and not another Weiss situation , can't keep throwing away cap space

nobody wants a #6 defensman with known hip issues for another 4 years. would probably have to package a pick and/or prospect with that. something holland probably doesn't want to do considering he will most likely have to do that to move datsyuk's cap hit as well

so ansar kahn tweeted out that ericsson was being bought out, but then quickly deleted it. interesting....

I was skeptical that it was even put out there at all, but WiiM tweeted about it and they can't stand Khan (so I can't really see why else they'd lie about/discuss it). Ansar usually plays it pretty close to the chest, too - he doesn't like to ruffle feathers within the DET organization at all. Weird.

Id rather eat 1.5 per yr off his salary than being stuck with a cap hit for another 8 yrs , we already have Weiss at 3-4 yrs?

Holland really has to use his head before he starts giving out these stupid deals

Yeah, I seen that too. I'd rather trade him, retaining a million or so than buy him out though. Ericsson is a decent 2nd - good 3rd pairing guy, and $3.25M is worth that in my opinion. We just need to make room for some of these kids we have coming up through the system...

The Weiss buyout hit is on the books until 2020-21. If they buy-out Ericsson, the combined penalty for the 2017-18 season will run at just a shade under 4.2M.

Awful ... And the 3 yrs after that would be like 3+ on the cap as well wasted

We have to try and find someone to take him if we are indeed getting rid of him , I'll still believe it when i see it though , wings are too loyal and I can't see them getting rid of Ericsson just yet

I pretty much have the same mindset regarding the whole thing - it doesn't feel like something Holland is going to pull off.

That said, Ericsson was 4th in TOI per game among DET defenders for the first half of the season. The second half he dropped to 6th, and was 7th during the last 20ish games or so. I'm not expecting Holland to buy him out, but I wouldn't be completely shocked, either. It's tough to stomach paying a guy playing as your #6-7 defender 4+ million per year.

Just having him off the roster and making room would be huge. How often do we think about that 2.5M from Weiss now that he's gone? Seems like he left 10 years ago

Yet he still haunts on us on the cap for another 4 yrs lol , he was a disaster and his career is probably over

I'm sure it's yes but I forgot ... Does anyone know if nosek Can be claimed through waivers? That would make frk and nosek and assuming mantha makes it and holland is still trying to sign Miller and/or helm you'd gotta think one of frk/nosek and one of Tatar/nyquist are gone ... Draft day is gonna be full of moves

As krsmith said, Nosek has one more year (or 64 games in the NHL) of waiver exemption. Frk, Ouellet, Sproul and Jensen are no longer waiver-exempt as of next season.

Before the offers to Helm and Miller (apparently Miller signing is based on Helm not signing, though?), I thought both Nosek and Frk had outside chances of making the roster - each guy brings something different to the table. I figured Nosek could fill the fourth-line/PK role for one of Miller/Helm, and Frk could jump into a role similar to Pulkkinen's last season.

I have a gut feeling Holland is going to explore the market, though. Without Pavel, this team's top-six probably consists of Zetterberg, Nyquist, Abdelkader, Tatar, Larkin and one of Mantha/Athanasiou/Jurco/Pulkkinen. I can't picture Kenny being comfortable going into next season with those guys. I have a feeling he's going to try to find some cap space and push hard for one of Backes/Brouwer/Ladd (not that I think he should).

I think one of nyquist or Tatar will be used as trade bait for defense... Knowing the redwings it wouldn't surprise me to see mantha sent down yet again for "more seasoning" ... That's the wings way

Unfortunetly I can see pulkkinen and jurco both being traded although if it's gonna happen I hope it's just one

Off the top of my head maybe mantha will end up on the 3rd line to start with a jurco and sheahan? Anyways it's all gonna depend on whether or not we get a stamkos(which I don't think we will) or someone through a trade .... If there was a way to upgrade upfront , say trade a nyquist for eberle I'd do it although last thing Edmonton needs is forwards so it won't happen

Like I've said many times in past posts, we shouldn't be building for next year, we should be building for a couple years from now... Getting rid of a few bad contracts in one year while adding a stud defenseman would be a huge success. Of course I don't expect anything close to this to happen, but to me, it's the route "I" would personally go...

I think that team on paper would squeeze into a playoff spot next year, but would be in great position to make a Cup run in a couple years time...

Hearing a lot of rumours of some decent scoring being bought out.. Thomas Vanek, Dustin Brown... We could have options. Give a guy like that a shot who would likely sign short deals

Do not want. I'd rather have a 4th line of Tangradi, Nosek, and Pulk, and I do t think any of them are NHL players.

No to Vanek, Brown and any of those guys. Vanek has 1! advantage he can score dirty goals the problem is he doesn't work for it and is easy to box out of the crease

Brown looks totally out of shape and doesn't hit as hard as he used to so no thanks. Also Vanek has 2 years and 13 million left no thanks.

Offer sheet trouba with a massive signing bonus and then extend him for 8x8..doubt Winnipeg would match.
