Do people honestly think Stamkos will sign with Detroit? If so, what the hell for? He's basically from Toronto which, if folks take off their homer glasses, is on the rise. The Leafs have a great coach and lots of high picks in their future. Another option would be Buffalo. It's not terribly far from Toronto and is also on the rise. All Detroit can offer is similar proximity to Toronto and, aside from Larkin, a bunch of middling prospects and picks.

The only reason Toronto is on the rise is because they've finally come to the realisation that sometimes you need to be bad in order to become good again, i.e. "tanking". I don't think Mathews will ever be as good as McDavid or Eichel but if they draft him the guy is a solid start, that's for sure, add to that Rielly and they are a goaltender away from improving. Nylander that small guy they've drafted could be solid pieces too but way to early to tell. If Stamkos sign there, he becomes the face of the franchise and his private life would be gone and I honestly think Buffalo is way ahead with their rebuild and he could center Eichel or ROR, while being only 2 hours away from home.

What the Wings can offer is this: first class organization, no media scrutiny and a guaranteed first line center position. I guess the money will be equal between all bidders.

Yet.

He could be bulls***ting though so.

Whenever did Babs say something like that?

Also that's not Babcock's decision it falls on the shoulders of that Friisdahl guy, MLSE brought in last month.

"You don't usually add big pieces when you're growing" It was an interview with Darren Dreger and the video is somewhere on TSN. Here's an article talking about it though. Also don't kid yourself. Mike Babcock has a lot of power in the Maple Leafs franchise. He was paid > $6 million to be there and he'll definitely get a say in on what his team should be like.

Oh thank you wow, I'm surprised sure, he has a lot of power but that Friisdahl guy is basically the boss of MLSE. Their fanbase will be livid if they pass on the hometown guy Stamkos *g*

Well like I said, Babs could just be playing the media. For all we know July 1st Stamkos becomes a Leaf.

Stamkos and Meehan would be stupid to sign anything that fast, there will be private jets landing in his home starting July 1. He can look at every offer => increase the price because the demand for his services is going to be through the roof.

Gonna say it again. If Holland fails to trade that contract he needs to be fired. Period.

It's not going to be easy but if he wants to re-tool this team he will need to trade that contract, Pulks + 2nd (2017)... it's not like he will pick up franchise player in 2nd round...

I still think when it's all said and done the contract will be gone , but holland is gonna sit back and let the teams go to him

And trust me they will , if teams like Chicago wanna be stupid and give up a teravainen, it doesn't mean we have to , and I don't care what some think but this contract has value to a team like Carolina who are in financial ruins and can save 7 million dollars by taking his contract

They'll come to us by the end of June begging for that contract
