Agreed. Stamkos' likely next teams, in order:

1. Toronto

2. TB

3. Buffalo

4. Detroit

If what Dreger is true it's more like

1. Buffalo willing to go 12 aav

2. Toronto

3. Tampa Bay but the captain needs to up his offer

4. Wings and everyone else who is interested

But hey gotta pass on a much needed gift in order to draft another undersized pick no one ever heard of.

Right, it'll suck if we miss on Stamkos. You certainly can't count on it, but we can also pick up Okposo, Staal, Lucic, Backes, Ladd, Erikkson, Brouwer, Nielsen.... And Holland has at least made it sound like he'll be active in trades as well, so there is that option, too. My hope is they trade Nyquist in a package for a solid 1-2 d-man, and (if they miss on Stammer) sign Okposo and Backes/Ladd.

According to these guys the Leafs have a tad over $7 million...http://www.spotrac.com/nhl/toronto-maple-leafs/cap/

That said - I've never been too keen on all the cap related stuff, and for what it's worth I was under the impression that the Leafs had a ton of space, but then again signing their recent acquisition goalie Andersen probably took a big chunk of that space.

They still have yet to re-sign 5 more players. So even with the $7 according to that website, they are in a cap crunch.

That's not to say they won't trade a crap ton of people to make space. But as of now the top 3 teams in the running are.

1. Tampa

2. Detroit

3. Buffalo

Detroit as it stands is the richest team amongst the 4 teams going after Stamkos. We have $24 million. Buffalo has $22 million. Tampa has $18 million, Toronto has $3.7 million ($7 million if you go by sportrac)
