I think it's safe to say that if Chychrun didn't fall to us then this deal would have never happened. If we somehow possibly sign Stamkos, years from now we could be looking back at this night, where the league passing on Chychrun who may end up being a dud, saved the franchise.

I remember when one of the beat writers said on Twitter the planets would have to align for the Wings to sign Stamkos. The Yotes acquired the Rags first rounder (20th pick). Chychrun fell in the rankings at last minute and was available at 16. Suddenly the Yotes were begging Holland to take Pasha's contract. Many little things had to go right for these events to unfold. The planets are aligning.

Seriously, if we lose on Stamkos, we can add two solid forwards and possibly trade for a top tier d-man. Either way, we're in a good position heading in to July 1.

Detroit has quite a bit of space now but let's remember we still have RFA's to get done. My worry is if KH misses on Stamkos what he will do then. I would rather him overpay for one guy in Stamkos than overpaying on 2-3 other guys. We all know that with free agency nowadays getting quality means your paying players salaries over market value. We could be in the same position in 3-4 years from now with older declining guys on bad contracts.

Of the teams listed in "The Running" I believe only Detroit can guarantee him the #1 center and superstar position. This will be his team. Toronto will have Matthews, Buffalo has Eichel.

It's either take Tampas offer or come to Detroit IMO. unless he would rather be #2 or #3 on another team.

Toronto could offer him to be the captain. Something we can't/won't do. There's also the issue of him not being able to wear his own number possibly. And the issue of Buffalo/Toronto being nicer places than Detroit. But our suburbs are nicer, which is likely where he would live so who knows.

Small factors but could be important factors in decision making.

To be honest I would take a $1 million dollar pay cut per year if it meant I got to live in sunny Tampa. That's just me though, I like beaches and wearing shorts year round.

Sean Avery might be the last true roster player traded by Holland and even that's a stretch. You might have to go all the way back to the Shanahan deal in 97

Holland wasn't GM at that time.

We will see come July 1. The only thing preventing Holland from signing Stamkos, is Stamkos. We have more than enough cash to get him here.

What do people think about Vanek? He's 32, I know, and had a couple of off-seasons with Minnesota, but even Minnesota's all-stars were off it seems. If we could get Vanek for 1 or 2 years, at an inexpensive rate, would you pull the trigger?

Vanek was set to make $7.5 million this season, with a $6.5 million salary cap hit. Oh my, that was a heavy contract.

Well and the other scenario is if we decide to trade Nyquist or Tatar in a package for Shattenkirk, Trouba, Fowler, Hamilton, Subban (long-shot), Dumba....

Other outside options could include Brodin, M. Staal...

i want Stamkos so bad but i am not getting hyped up until i see its official on July 1st ill be upset if we dont but i like that we have other options like Okposo Ladd Backes Lucic etc
