Been pondering the Stamkos situation. We would obviously love to have him and have the money stashed away if he can be swayed now.

With that said, I think it's highly unlikely that he'll join our team. Trying to see it from his perspective, what's most important? In rank, I believe:

*Money

*A chance to win the cup

*Acknowledgement from teammates, coaches and the fans

*A future legacy

Based on the teams that are actively going for him, we rank mid or low on these selling points. I see Tampa and Toronto clearly in the lead. It would have to take very special circumstances to sign him.

I am betting he will re-sign with Tampa.

Exactly that's why paying a premium (Chychrun), instead of one of AA or Svech (a position of strange), could turn out to be a huge mistake.

I think the most important thing is obviously money and every team that wants a realistic chance at him will have to go 11 plus.

I think from all the teams competing for his services Buffalo is offering the biggest chance to become a juggernaut in the future, Eichel, RoR and Ristolainen are already there.. Toronto has some pieces falling in place and the best coach in hockey but they also have tremendous pressure and media scrutiny.

The Wings can offer a guaranteed number 1 center spot and the ability to become the next captain...So the sales job from Holland and company needs to be a huge one.

With that being said maybe there is one team nobody thinks of that will ****** him.

I think Kenny should be shopping for that D-man HARD right now, before July 1. The more attractive Detroit looks, the more likely we can land Stamkos.

I mean, we have Larkin, AA, Dekeyser, Mrazek, Mantha, we still have (even though he's older and slowing down) one of the best two way players in the NHL in Zetterberg, who can actually be more effective as a 2nd line winger.

I know Holland is pretty loyal, but he can always dangle the "A" out there with the chance of becoming "C" when Z retires. Holland has to not only make a huge top dollar offer, but he has to make this team look much more attractive than the others.

If we could get a deal done with Stevie for a sign and trade, that would be awesome. $11M for 8 years, then come up with a nice package deal.

Considering the unthinkable. He has been out almost all season and his status is uncertain. What would you offer to trade for the Montreal goaltender Carey Price?

I don't his injury will affect his trade value enough for it to be worth it. Plus he basically makes the canadiens a contender. Without him they're nothing. If we sign stamps they might be willing to do a straight up swap. Mrazek will be our goalie of the future. No doubt about that

You're assuming 1) those four considerations are what's most important to Stamkos, 2) he would rank the importance of said considerations in that same order, and 3) his assessment of the given teams would match your own.

Truth is, we know next to nothing about Stamkos's motivations and preferences and opinions etc. For all we know, he finds the prospect of becoming the seventy-million-dollar captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs more terrifying than tantalizing.

Nothing. He's better than Mrazek, sure, but it's been proven you can win without an elite goalie, and Mrazek will be one one day. Why waste assets for an injury prone goalie when we have a very, very good one who will hopefully be around for a very long time?

Rangers are after Stamkos.

Sabres willing to go $12M/season

True, you can win without an elite goalie but you better have great defense... we don't have either.
