Official 2016 Detroit Red Wings Offseason Thread

I think Kenny should be shopping for that D-man HARD right now, before July 1. The more attractive Detroit looks, the more likely we can land Stamkos.

I mean, we have Larkin, AA, Dekeyser, Mrazek, Mantha, we still have (even though he's older and slowing down) one of the best two way players in the NHL in Zetterberg, who can actually be more effective as a 2nd line winger.

I know Holland is pretty loyal, but he can always dangle the "A" out there with the chance of becoming "C" when Z retires. Holland has to not only make a huge top dollar offer, but he has to make this team look much more attractive than the others.

If we could get a deal done with Stevie for a sign and trade, that would be awesome. $11M for 8 years, then come up with a nice package deal.

11 million a year? That's f'n crazy ... No thanks

What happens if he has more health issues in 2-3 yrs? And if we're gonna get him I got no interest in giving up a first and top prospects to land the guy and cough up an extra year of contract

If he wants to come he'll come July 1st

Rangers are after Stamkos.

Sabres willing to go $12M/season

True, you can win without an elite goalie but you better have great defense... we don't have either.

Pittsburgh just won without either.

Kenny should be all over something for fowler. Maybe Tatar + 2 seconds

Like I said a few days ago, Cam Fowler is bleh.

IMHO, Mattias Ekholm is the player that Fowler is mistakenly believed to be.

I've been reading about how Toronto is ready to throw an offer at Stamkos and even one possibly bigger than 10 mill. What I don't understand is how they can afford it. Capfriendly says they only have around 3 mill in space. Am I missing something?

I'd imagine they start by trading Lupul and Bernier. But even then they'd have to shed more salary to re-sign their own RFAs. Weird seeing a rebuilding team so close to the cap.

On the flip side, it has been 100% media and fan speculation that Toronto will go for Stamkos. Babs himself has said the time is not right to go shopping in free agency.

Yeah, if this were next summer no doubt they'd have the cash to get it done no doubt. All of the s*** contracts they took off of teams hands to move out Phaneuf and others are up next summer. But as of now, they'd really have to work at it. We're in the best position money wise to offer Stamkos, well us and Buffalo but those f***s are so irrelevant I wish they'd just go away

This is why i can't have nice things. Apparently it got retweeted and someone in my feed freaked about it. Sorry sorry

Lol I was going to say. "5 year Tampa deal" sounds very familiar. I went and looked it up and it showed me his old deal he signed. Hahah someone's trolling twitter really well.

Well if it's today I'd assume he's signing with Tampa. None of the other teams have even sat down with him to give him a presentation of what to expect in their organization..

I remember Holland had a legit presentation for Suter*.

Maybe a team takes a big risk and trades for his rights to try and negotiate before July 1st?

Could be that he's announcing he is not resigning with Tampa, just a thought.

Could be a sign and trade, could be trading his rights, could be a deal.

Could be nothing. It's Saturday night, he's 26, he could be clubbing in Club Prana in Ybor city, Tampa with the ladies. (Great club btw I snuck in there back when I was 17. Highly recommend 10/10.)

This article says June 24th....which was yesterday.....and nothing big came. So I'm thinking it's fake or a bad source.

GAH, my freakin' brother got me excited, he didn't do his due diligence and I didn't check the date. My bad.

Compared to the Suter situation at least there's this interview process now. By the time Suter said we were out of the picture, all the other UFAs were gone and we missed out some other good guys. Hopefully with the interview, he'll say his decision and, if we're not the choice, then we can chase Ladd, Eriksson, Okoposo, etc.

Picking up wingers would be good too, but I think that would pretty much force us to rely on Z and Larkin as the top 2 centers. Larkin hasn't excelled there yet and we don't know how long it would take for him to transition to the spot. Alternately, it seems to wear Z down too much. It would be better to only need 1 of them as centers and have the other as relief. Otherwise, we could have AA or Sheahan as a 2nd line center and I don't think that's ideal. Stamkos is pretty much the only center on the market (Staal, Backes, but both are probably in decline)
