This is going to be Suter/Parise all over again. Anyone find flight information yet?

The difference is this time I've come to the realisation that this team isn't the go to UFA destination it used to be. So unlike the Suter/Parise situation my hopes aren't high. The reality is Stamkos will have teams with more proven! young players and a bright future begging for his services.

I also think people will be surprised when Meehan and Stammer will take their team and not announce anything for a few days, which of course will result in Ladd , Backes, Looch and Okposo having to wait. But if anyone believes either one of these guys could fill the number 1 center they are in for a huge surprise. And all that wonderful cap space in exchange for Chychrun won't mean a damn thing. Not that they are bad players especially Looch and Backes would provide entertainment but neither is a number 1 center or defenceman!

Radulov back to KHL, he was looking for long term $7.5M min per season... What a punk.

Now, Radulov is a TRUE piece of s***

no way was he getting that now if we cant get stammer we need to focus on a good center Staal or Backes and winger Okposo or Eriksson

If we can't get Stamkos, KH should go after Backes, Okposo and Lucic.

Trade Nyquist, Tatar, Pulks for defensive upgrade this package get us Trouba/Shatty (if extension can be worked) and some draft picks.

XO + 3rd for McCarron

Abdelkader - Larkin - Okposo

Jurco (Mantha) - Backes - Lucic

AA - She - Z

Bertuzzi - LG (McCarron) - Martin

We get big, heavy, nasty and mean...

All the rumors about St. Louis confuse me. They were the best they've been in a long time and it seems like they're blowing the team up a bit.

They had a season where they were in the second round with Chicago, Anaheim, and LA all out and they still couldn't get out of the West. I think this team is realizing that for whatever reason they are just not built for the playoffs.

Either one of which guys? Ladd, Lucic, Okposo are wingers. Who believes they could fill our void at center?

Dude, c'mon.

Chychrun is a prospect. Stamkos is an elite 1C and one of the best players in hockey -- and we have a legitimate shot at signing him. (If we didn't, I don't think Holland would've pulled the trigger on the trade.) And if we don't get Stamkos? Then we pursue the next best thing. We'll be able to do this because we'll have a lot of cap space. If we don't trade Datsyuk's contract, we don't have that flexibility, and, consequently, we're stuck with a bottom-basement roster. Other teams would be making significant improvements to their rosters. We wouldn't be able to do the sane. You're telling me you would've been ok with that? Does Chychrun mean that much to you?

Does Backes still seem practical? He's going to want a long term and he's already 32 and his production was worse than Zetterberg's. It got to a point where St. Louis was using him on the third line.

2 year deal would be ideal but I think he's going to want a long term deal.

I *love* Backes, and it's no secret that I've wanted him on the Wings for awhile. That being said, I wouldn't sign him for more than a 3 year deal to start.

I say due to the 35 years old rules, MAX that we should sign player is till he's 36... after that go year per year. No more stupid contracts à la Francine, Z, Errorson

I see what you are saying, but this wouldn't have changed anything with E. He's 32 with 4 years left.

If I'm Backes, my thought would be that I need a long term deal to be locked in with a NTC so I'm guaranteed pay until I'm 38. If he signs a 2-3 year deal and his contract is up at say age 35, now he's worth nothing more than maybe $1 million dollars. But with a long term contract he'd be getting paid $4 million + till he's 38, regardless of how much he's declined.

I say Backes should be a Plan D. Stamkos, Okposo, Eriksson, Ladd should be considered first.

And even if we bring him here, I think I'd rather him play Winger. I think the only real Center to go after his Stamkos. If that doesn't work, have Larkin, Sheahan, AA, Z, Glendog as your center rotations and try to land some wingers in the market.

Agreed. I love Backes (and Ladd too). Always have. And I would have loved to have either about 3 years ago. But at this point, there are cheaper options for what they bring to the table. Both those guys are looking for long term deals, and will get far more money than they'll be worth toward the end of it. As I've said all along, the only guys I'd sign long term are Stamkos and Okposo given their ages.

The contract has to be signed AFTER he turns 35. So a 34 year old can sign a 5 year deal and retire early without cap implications

True but those contracts are hard to move

Which is exactly why Backes will want a long term deal. Make $$ till hes 38 or so without having to worry about being traded. If bought out, still gets paid.

Sucks but that's the way these contracts seem to he going for these 30+ aged players now
