It doesn't make sense to add Lucic at that hit, either. He's already on the decline I hear and his style of play means he probably won't play out his contract, let alone play up to his value every year.

Based on what he's on decline? He's only 27, played last year on a new team... how can you jump on conclusion that he's on decline???

5 yrs x 6 is the max I'd go for lucic , he's 28 now which means he'd be done at 33 and like mentioned previously his body will break down so no 6-7 yr deal , 5 years and I'd take a gamble , it would be nice to have someone to go around knocking people , + we got a ton of kids coming with small contracts so we can afford the risk

Still think our #1 priority is adding a defencmen through a trade .... I think it's highly unlikely trouba will get dealt but if we can convince the jets to trade him somehow he should be our number 1 target , after him I'd consider brodin as he's able to play 20+ a night , not put up big numbers but a reliable d

Think there's still some moves Kenny has to do outside of July 1st,I just hope it's just not losing a bunch of roster guys through waivers

Do not want him in Detroit...Would prefer guys under 30 who might actually produce for a good portion of their contract.

Whether we like it or not we absolutely have to sign a center. If Stamkos says "no thanks" Nielson is the next best option. Nielson + Ladd/Lucic/Okposo + Brower/Martin would fill a lot of holes. If we don't sign Helm we have enough room to add 3 of the above names.

I wonder if Rick Nash could be Holland's plan B if we don't land Stamkos. His cap hit is almost the same as Datsyuk's, the Rangers want to get rid of him and Holland was pushing hard to get him when CBJ wanted to trade him.

At this point, I'm just ready for Friday. Plan A,b,c,d,or Z.

We could be waiting weeks for the Stamkos drama to unfold. He may wait all summer for all we know. Or he could sign on July 1st. No way to know.

thanks, that's what I thought. It will give us something to talk about for sure, something to do in the offseason now that GoT ended too.

To be honest - if we're that desperate for a center - I'd rather promote from within if we don't land Stamkos rather than sign a ufa that'll want 5 plus years, and he's on the opposite side of 30.

I'm on the same page. Nielsen might be the next best option on the market, but what's the point? Perhaps if the Wings were in a better position, it would make more sense. Not that I'm already writing the team off for next season, but I don't think they're a Frans Nielsen away from contending. Given the current state of the team, why commit 5.5M and 3-4 years to a 32-year-old when you'll have younger players pushing him within two years?

Larkin and Athanasiou have served as centers in their career, although not in Detroit. KH has stated he envisions Larkin slotting in at center, but Athanasiou is up in the air (unless he's commented on him as well). It might be a "baptism by fire" situation, but I'd try them out there (if one struggles, try the other) before signing another players over the age of 30 to a contract with term. I understand that you generally want to insulate guys in these situations - let them start out as the third-line center and work their way up the depth chart. I think that could have worked with Pavel on this team with one year left on his contract, but now they'll have to offer term to someone else. If that someone else isn't part of the core moving forward, it kind of feels like a lateral move (at best) to me.

Not sold on stamkos and whether he's really a center or not , but if we really do end up signing 2 guys ....

Stamkos Larkin lucic

Zetterberg athanasiou abdelkader

Tatar Sheahan mantha/Frk

Miller glendening jurco

3 way deal with the wild and jets

Wings get trouba

Jets get smith and brodin 2nd 2017

Wild get nyquist + 3rd 2018

Ship Ericsson to Dallas with 1.1 mill retained for 2017 3rd

Ship ouellet and pulkkinen to the preds for Ryan Ellis (likely will lose Ellis to expansion)

Kronwall trouba

dekeyser marchenko

Ellis cheap ufa depth signing d

maybe it is a done deal. Would anyone really be surprised? I mean, its not really about winning anymore for some players. Look at Suter/Parise, they went home. (even though Suter is from Wisconsin, he went to wifes home.) Minny is no closer to winning a Cup than Detroit is. Its not like they went to a team to win. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes home just to get paid and be home. Whatever if thats the case. I still don't think they will winb a Cup in the 7 years he will be there. They just don't have enough pieces and if they give him $10-$12M and have to have a fire sale to clear cap, that'll make them even further away from a Cup. But, anything can happen. All we can do is offer him the money, nobody can outbid us this time, its just up to him in the end. I'll be pissed, but not at Holland.

Elite players probably assume they can turn any franchise into a winner. Sure, signing with a team like the 00s Wings was a no brainer, but I suspect most professional athletes think they can most any team win. Whether they're right is another issue.

If Stamkos ends up on this team, I can assure you AA will not be the second line center, nor Larkin the first.

It seems like Lucic will sign with Edmonton???

Apparently that's hot air, Lucic called the report "bulls***" to a Boston beat guy on Twitter a little while ago.

We've been officially linked to Stamkos, Martin and Lucic thus far. Plus rumors of Brouwer, Backes, Erikkson and Okposo. I like a lot of those names so I think one way or the other I'll be happy on Friday. (though Stamkos would be one hell of a birthday present )

Thanks for the clarification.

I can live with Stamkos, Lucic and Martin... 😉
