In the last 2-3 days I have seen the RW's tied to the following UFA's:

Stamkos-doubt he comes but we shall see......

Lucic-I think he stays west.....

Okposo-love to have him....

Martin-really love to have him.....

Backes-love to have him.....

The question becomes what makes us a better team? Signing say Stamkos and Martin-that uses up all of our money or going with 3 guys like Backes, Okposo, and martin? I would do the later. Gives us more depth, makes us a much tougher team to play against, and frees up more young F's that then could be moved for a Dman like Fowler or Shattenkirk. Think about that lineup and summer activity. We add Okposo, Backes, Martin and a true top pair Dman. Those moves which would remove guys like Nyquist and Tatar for example would make us a much better team.

There's no way you choose Okposo and Backes over Stamkos. We have more than enough depth throughout the entire lineup. You know what we lack? Elite level talent. There is only one elite level player that will hit free agency, quite possibly the best player (taking into account age) that has ever hit free agency, including pre-salary cap... You don't pass that up for two depth players...

If Stamkos signs elsewhere, then we look at other options, but you don't pass on a player of his calibre... for depth...

but in turn signing mulitple guys who are top 6 but not top line guys will give us another richards player who will be overrated and not used well i cant see Lucic higher than a 2nd or 3rd line winger okposo could ride the 1st but martins a 4th line winger nothing more signing stamkos helps also excel players like tats goose larkin pulks jurco we want our kids used not pushed aside or waived for nothing

At this rate Meehan will need a few extra secretaries just to handle all the phone calls.

Friday will be awesome for stammer contracts with a lot of 0s under his table. Guy will put the Toews and Kane aav to shame that's for sure.

If I am him it starts with 12 x 7, nmc since every team will happily offer that the future outlook of each team could be a very important factor which isn't good for the Wings cause Buffalo and even Toronto are obviously ahead with their rebuild

You know what we lack? Elite level talent.

Boom. I would like the s*** out of this if I could.

As things currently stand, we have zero proven elite-level players on the roster. This has been a growing issue for the past few years. A lack of top-level talent has an effect on your whole lineup. Suddenly a Nyquist or Tatar is asked to win matchups against the best players in the league. Everyone has to play out of their depth. What you get is a team that, while perhaps defensively sound, can't score for beans.

SOURCES: Maple Leafs met with Steven Stamkos at MLSE headquarters Tuesday. Also present: Toronto Mayor John Tory and CEO of Canadian Tire.

Good Lord Toronto... Why would he go there, the pressure would be crazy and if doesn't lead them to a cup he will become vilified lol

I'm sure the CEO is there to make sure he knew he would be given millions in endorsements from Canadian companies.

KH better get Belle Tire on the phone

I found this Stamkos Contract Calculator in TSN. And Detroit is the best option for net salary.

oh and also this:

"Made up Tweet: Stamkos met the Belle Tire Man and Little Caesar himself, serenaded by Eminem." per @GeorgeMalik :D

Stamkos can have all the hot and ready's he wants if he comes to Detroit. That in itself should mean this is a done deal.

and with that contract he could buy a third of Detroit and become a real estate mogul (modal...? any Bill Burr fans?)

There are plenty of reasons he could sign here. We have a great crop of young players that WILL be our core for years to come. We have an ownership that will stop at nothing to win. He WILL be the face of the franchise, he WILL be the #1 center, he WILL be the one who grabs the C before Larkin. He WILL get the A this season.

Let's compare cities. I'm not saying Detroit is in the same conversation when it comes to things to do. But, just like most cities, there are parts of Toronto that are shady. Really if you look at Foxtown, The Theatre district, and the Arena area. There are million dollar condos right on Woodward and near commerica. You have Gilbert renovating every building he can get his hands on, he's not leasing those buildings for pennies. What he's not doing, Nicole Curtiss is doing the homes. The area adjacent to LCA and including Brush Park are going to be multi million dollar homes and condos. Not even mentioning our northern suburbs and Indian villiage. Million Dollar homes.

Detroit still has ruins and crime, but that's mostly outside of downtown. Chicago is worse for crime than Detroit. Doesn't stop players from living downtown during the season.

He may choose home, but it's not like we have nothing else to offer but money.
