Why hasn't Rick Nash come up at all? He's one year removed from a 43 goal season.. And he's only got two years left on his deal. Kenny might even be able to get them to eat some salary, depending on how savvy he can get.

It's honestly hard for me to say, since he's been playing with one of the best centers in the league. I'd be nervous he'd get here and not be able to live up to anything the Wings would give him. $8M a year is way too much. I'd be comfortable if he was making around 5 or 6 but I'm sure someone will overpay for him.

yea if anything i figure it would be more in the 6.5 per range but cant see him taking less than 7 if thats the case looking over its not worth it

If you wanted him to come down on term you would prolly have to pay him 8 mill. So instead of $7/7 you could maybe get him for $8/4. All speculation of course. I'm sure he would rather have term like most of the other big name free agents.

agree guess with stamkos gone i figured price would be through the roof for alot of these FAs but im on the fence i want to play the kids but i also want them to have a mix of vets however to be handcuffed sucks and we already got contracts that will be Albatross down the line unless they can be moved

it wouldnt be bad if it was short term cause of the cap space we have. but llike you said he would probably rather have term over money,

Staal seems like he would be the lesser of two evils on price and term bit of a low risk signing and if he does bounce back he could be a steal for a year or 2 until Larkin is ready okposo or ericksson would be the winger id be ok with but has anyone heard anything on Ladd or Boedker?

Eric Staal isn't quite the player he once was, but if we're looking for someone to simply hold down the 1C role just for, like, a year, we could do much worse than signing him to a short deal. Jordan Staal is another option. (I think?) (Is there a Hurricanes fan in the house?)

My dream scenario is that we add 3 players, and trade for a top 4 d-man (or sign Demers at least) and trade some extra pieces for picks.

Right now I am hoping we can sign Staal, Okposo, and McGinn. If I had a candidate for trade, it would be Nyquist as I feel that Tatar is a better scorer and plays a more passionate game (in my opinion). I'd also be okay with Vanek on a 1 year, 3 mil or less.

Boedker is an interesting case as he's never cracked the 20 goal mark, or 51 points. Although he has now hit 51 points twice. He is more of a playmaker and I feel we already have enough playmakers. We need guys who can put the puck in the net more often. If Boedker is not super expensive, maybe it makes sense, but he'll probably be asking for north of 4.5 million and that's a hard pill to swallow for a guy who hasn't produced a ton of points. I'd rather look at McGinn (just scored 23 goals) and plays with an edge.

That would be my only point with Staal, and it's the main reason I want us to go for him. He had a couple of down seasons, but a down season for him is 39 points on a garbage team for most of the season. He's already come out and said that he understands he may need to take less money/term. We desperately need a stop-gap 1C/2C and he is the only center out there that could possibly rebound and pot us 65+ points. Prime definition of low risk/high reward.

Players that could rebound aren't helping this team at all, what if they don't ? Wings would be stuck with their cap hit and the same problem this team has before.

I don't want Larkin not AA to be burdened with the number 1, 2 center spot so soon...it's a different beast going up against the other teams top pairing guys.

i def see your point frank as a fan its not fun to know your team that you have followed since you were 3 years old is not the same and as fans i think we have been spoiled by the fact great players always wanted to end up here now its few and far between and even more now since we havent had a decent high end signing since Hossa but seeing the same team coming back in oct with the exception of Dats Q and Richards isnt exactly apeasing either i do want change not at the price of AA or Larkin but if anyone of the FA can get a spark going or even if they open up the ice more for guys like Goose or Tats i wouldnt mind seeing someone and on tp of that i just dont want to see Larkin pressured with that 1C yet or for that matter Z who cannot do it anymore

There has actually been alot of talk on local radio that the Wings are going to go for Ekblad next year (I'm guessing trade). Pat Caputo was saying he got the info from a reliable source.
