Anyone know the latest on Franzen? Last I heard is that he was still having problems, but that was a few months ago. Is he expected to retire? He hasn't played more than 54 games in a season since 2011-12 and only 35 total games the last two years.

I'm under the assumption LTIR

Now what? Red Wings Defenseman trade options

The Red Wings have too many forwards and too few defensemen, how do they rectify that?

Why did we sign 4 forwards on FA? Instead, we could have use some of that salary for someone like Jason Demers?

Watch KH sign Quincey back. :sleepy::eh:

I would say Kenny has a trade partner for D man it's a matter of what pieces go the other way. Not easy anyway you look at it, I would go after Schultz anyway offer him $3m a year on a 2year deal hopefully get DD resigned and go from there. They big issue then would be moving a D out of Detroit.

Schultz DeKeyser

Green Kronwall

Smith Marchenko

Gives us RH LH combo on all 3 pairings

Ericsson Ouellet surplus ? We all know that Kenny won't buy Ericsson out and XO they are high on, so what's next?

Yeah if we signed any free agent d man this year, it would feel like a plug.. A long term plug too. Kind of like Ericsson :P

Trade route is the way to go but it takes two GMs.. Hopefully we can make something work sooner rather than later.

I'd seriously consider trading Mantha now, whereas I wouldn't have a few days ago. It's clear management isn't very high on him and he's not going to get a very good shot to make the team unless he pulls a Larkin. His development because of this is basically finished in our system. He has some value, so bring us a defender, Kenny.

Did anyone we sign in the last few days have a no move clause? (Ott, Helm, Miller, Vanek, Nielson, etc.) Trying to get an idea if any of them could be used in a trade.

Nielsen had a nmc for two years

Helm + something (pick, young prospect) for Trouba ftw !!

They won't trade Helm right after they signed him

I've never been very high on Mantha or Pulks.

I was thinking about this myself. I'm not giving up on him, but there are signs that he possibly won't be the offensive stud we hoped he would be. And anyway, I think our need is still greater for a top defender than the scoring winger that he would be.

I think it would be stupid to give up on him just yet , kids turning 22 in September and hasn't had a real shot yet and progressed nicely in Grand Rapids , just cause the wings will keep him in Grand Rapids doesn't mean he's a bust , that's just the way Detroit does things here , Kenny will just use the we'll have a good piece waiting for us in Grand Rapids when injuries occur

Outside of mantha right now our best hope for a top 6 kid is svechnikov and AA so we should make sure we're doing the right thing before we ship him off (if it's for a stud dman in a package ok but if it's someone like fowler who I'm not that high or a shattenkirk with one year left , pass )

Was looking at teams prospect defensemen maybe worth a look and who have a bunch of defensemen

Anaheim

Brandon montour

Jacob larsson

Shea Theodore

Chicago

Ville pokke

Gustav forsling

Nashville

Jack Dougherty

Jets

Josh morissey

Flyers

Robert hagg

Out of those I doubt morrissey and Theodore would be available .... Brandon montour and ville pokke are 22 and might be worth a shot , montour put up great ahl numbers and can be a good add especially with the ducks adding Theodore already

Hawks might part with pokke since the top 4 is solid , maybe for s few cheap pieces that can help them win the cup now? Pulkkinen? I'm sure on a team like the Hawks with those players he can fetch 15-20 and has a small cap hit

Maybe montour for a ouellet or jurco type player/prospect ... or just a 2nd rounder in 2 yrs can be enough?

Hagg as well mig be worth a look

Think our best shot is trying to get someone with potential who hopefully blossoms in our organization

It be nice to go for a trouba but don't know how realistic that'll be , and I only hope if we trade a first it'll be lottery protected

Wouldn't surprise me though if we just end up signing James wisniewski

It feels like groundhog day... here we are with a glut of overpaid/underachieving forwards signed, anyone under 25 not named Dylan Larkin have been "cock-blocked" from seeing any meaningful NHL ice time. And our defence is terrible and another year older. This team needs a new management philosophy ASAP.

Or fans who don't understand that the team will do whatever it can to keep the Streak going need to adjust their expectations.

But by all means, continue to bang your head against a wall.

Vanek - Larkin - Abs

Z - Neilson - Tatar

Nyquist - Helm - Sheahan

AA - Glendening - Ott

Miller/Juro/Pulk

Obviously way to much going on here. First off AA shouldn't be playing on the fourth line but you cant have anyone on the third line swap positions because their salary would say too much for 4th line minutes, that's dilemma one. Dilemma 2 is the problem with lack of youth, you say we wanna convert into a more youthful line up but having AA and/or Mantha playing on the bottom 6 probably doesn't fair well for them all together and theres simply no room for Mantha anyway, and AA for that matter. Dilemma 3 is the fact your continously sitting the likes of Jurco and Pulks which won't increase their trade value or production in their development in anyway.

Now as much as this is irelevent and completely just a hunch I have a funny feeling that Larkin and Vanek are going to draw a special connection. I can only hope for the teams sake but I hope they have a chance at some point to build some chemistry, and that's why I have them slotted together. Nielson and Z together though don't give me much to smile about and honestly at the rate Z falls half way through the season I'd personally have him play on the 3rd line. Again though waaaay too much going on even if ya want to try and establish competition. I hear that excuse every year and I really haven't seen it pan out that often, at least to my knowledge. I also remember Blash and Kenny stating how the players need to know and WANT to know what exactly their role is on this team, all I see here are more question marks.... the only stiring the pot kenny claimed to do is the same stir I've seen the last 5 years, signing vets in hope for a different result, and the same taste is getting old. Trades are evident, unless maybe your the current GM...

^ You can definitely put Sheahan on the 4th line. $2 million dollar 4th liner is not that expensive with the upcoming cap raise.

Don't split up Z and Larkin imo.

Tatar - Neilsen - Vanek

Zetterberg - Larkin - Abdelkader

AA - Helm - Nyquist

Sheahan - Glendogmillionaire - Miller/Ott

Each line would have a defensively responsible player, a scorer and a "powerforward"

The third line would be one of the fastest in the NHL. Tatar likes to shoot and Vanek is the type of player that scores on rebounds. Larkin and Zetterberg have good chemistry. Helm is defensively responsible to make up for AA and Nyquist is the primary scorer on the line. 4th line would easily be better because of Sheahan's decent scoring ability, something Glendog and Miller lack.

The other dilemma is Sproul, Ouellet, and Jensen are out of waiver options. So we need to make a trade or risk losing prospects for nothing.
