No one wants Howard. His stock is at an all time low. We would be better off playing him next year a little less than full time and hope he regains his confidence enough to make him a trade piece. If not you buy him out.

Well, yes and no. Nobody wants Howard at his current cap hit. If Jimmy was a UFA right now, he would have plenty of teams interested. The nice thing is the closer to the last year of his contract we get, the higher the likelihood of us trading him (long as he doesn't regress big time which is possible).

Honestly don't mind keeping him one more year. Mrazek still isn't fully consistent. Howard will come in handy if there's any hiccup in Mrazek's play. He certainly did at the end of last season.

This year I'd prefer them just stick with one goalie though rather than try to rotate things. Only use Howard is Mrazek is struggling and needs relief.

:hysterical: Top tier UFA's feel the same way!

Holland started this path with "The Choice" and pushed all his superstars away. Then signs middling talent to outrageous contracts. Then forces coach to play them in the top 6 when they're obviously 13th forwards. Developed kids for 4 years only to suppress them in the minors or in the press box then lose them to waivers...you go Kenny, you go girl!

I can't list the players that should be gone, or nevrr re-signed, it's rudundent.

Here's how it's going down, right now with Pulk signed there are 17 forwards on the roster. Take away LTIR for Pulk, Franzen, Viale and that is 14, that's WITH AA in GR. Frk can stay in Detroit to start the season and split time with Ott/Miller as the 12th. Mantha could also start in GR bringing it down to 13 fwds. He'll be sent down once Pulk is healthy anyhow, keeping it at 14 with Frk.

Currently there are 5 D signed, DD will make 6 and one of XO/Sproul/Jensen will make #7. I keeping reading Fowler is coming, but with a roster of 14 fwds, 7 dman and 2 goalies. Holland is probably done. Unfortunately...and that's why the leadership ranking is so low. He has the opportunity via trade to make necessary changes, he refuses. Stanley Cup champions make those trades when needed. Chicago, LA, Pittsburgh. Remember how all of us laughed at Pittsburgh when they traded for Kessel? Well a lot of us did.

You really think Frk is going to make the team over AA, Mantha or Nosek?

Mantha, Nosek and AA have exemptions left. Frk does not. The 3 can start the season in GR without danger. Frk has no exemptions. Unless Frk s***s the bed in pre-season then it's absolutely possible that he'll be here with one of the other guys with exemptions.

I'd prefer Mantha, AA and Frk be here, but this is Holland and he has to re-sign Helm and Miller. Plus refuses to dump Nyquist for a top defender. At least so far he has refused to...

Helm was a decent signing. What trade did Holland refuse to give up Nyquist for?

Also you're skewing the numbers. 17F vs 5D for initial roster counts? lol

If you're including Frk, you have to include Ouellet and others...

I believe I said 5 d signed, DD will make 6 and ONE OF XO/SPROUL/JENSEN WILL MAKE 7. XO is Ouellet. I excluded the fwds that can safely start in GR. Once Pulk is back, the safe player will be sent to GR...unless Frk s***s the bed and doesn't make the team out of camp. No skewing...but you can go read it again.

Zetterberg Larkin Nyquist

Vanek Nielsen Tatar

Helm Sheahan Abdelkader

Miller Glendening

Those are more or less locks to be regulars. Frk is this year's Pulk. Big AHL numbers, lacks things he needs to be a good NHL player, but will probably start with the team. Jurco probably gets the other 4th line spot, square peg in the round hole. Ott probably makes the team. That's the 14 forwards. Holland will stammer about how Mantha, AA, and maybe a couple other guys are good enough but won't play a top nine role because of numbers and trading is hard, like, really REALLY hard and you have to give up a good player to get anything of value back and he won't do that, so they'll be riding the bus in GR. The defense will be a fuster cluck, Jensen will be waived to much crying and clear, whoever loses out of Marchenko, XO, and Sproul will get claimed. A rumor will leak out that whoever gets lost on waivers threatened to go to Europe instead of GR and fans will cry about him for a year until everyone figures out he's nothing special anyway.

Frk and Pulkkinen are nowhere near comparables in terms of numbers in the AHL.

121 Points in 119 Games

68 Points in 149 Games

You can guess who's who.

We're not waiving one of Sproul/Ouellet/Marchenko to keep Frk as a 14th forward...

Uh.....ok, let's keep 8 dmen instead.

One of xo/sproul/Jensen will be #7 with the current roster. The other two will be sent to GR and be forced to go through waivers.

If Frk is good, the other fwds with exemptions will start in GR. Holland won't risk losing him to another team.

Not unless Cleary wants to play...

Of course a trade involving any of these players will change things.

Very few teams carry 8 D for more than a few games here and there. Helm's contract guarantees him a top 9 spot, so unless they waste Sheahan on the 4th line there's no room for Mantha or AA. Holland won't keep them to play on the 4th line.

Agreed. Both with the roster as it is I think it's the most likely scenario.

There is no way Sproul or Ouellet would get waived before Frk.

Why would Sheahan on the 4th line be a waste? I would love to see more balance on the roster with scoring coming from other players. The quality of competition that the 4th line faces would give these players a chance to really shine.

How about:

Zetterberg - Larkin - Nyquist

Tatar - Nielsen - Abdelkader

Vanek - Helm - Athanasiou

Jurco - Sheahan - Mantha

That 4th line could wreck other teams "grind" lines with the correct usage. Also, imagine the speed with Helm and AA on the 3rd line.

Miller, Ott, and even Glendening should be riding the bench as much as possible. Gone are the days of a 4th line made up of goons/thugs/unskilled players with 5 minutes of ice time per game. The NHL has changed and I am hoping that Holland and Blashill are willing to change with it.
