They can't become good nhl players if Holland blocks them from playing because of Helm and Glendening

But we have players lower on the food chain than Helm and Glendening. Why is the attack on them? Just the money issue?

No Miller/Ott gets you Mantha and you can bump Helm down a line. Or you get Frk or Bertuzzi.

Then if we don't sign Vanek (who I don't think should be here long term) then you can have Mantha.

T-Lark-Abby

Z-Niel-Ny

Helm-AA-Mantha

Shea-Glen-Bert/Frk

Jurco/pulk

I think Mantha needs more development time, so I'm fine with Vanek for a year and let Mantha steal his spot sometime during the year. Giving Pulkkinen or Jurco a shot could have been a better for the team, though.

Don't like the Miller/Ott signings.

Jurco and Pulkkinen are too good to be extra forwards. They need a chance to play. I like Ott, but I also don't know why he was signed. So take away Ott, Miller and Helm, now we're talking room for our future. Odds are we lose one or both of Jurco and Pulkkinen before next year. I only hope it's via trade for an upgraded D. Nyquist should be the center of any trade.

Here's hoping Miller becomes the 13th/14th guy instead of the others....and I like Miller, but it was/is just time to let the kids play...no Miller no Helm, Ott not sure why he was signed.

Ya I don't get the ott/Miller signings , signing helm to 3.85 cap hit assures us he's gonna be on the 2nd or 3rd line (don't get this signing either)

Signing vanek as well guarantees no matter what holland says to the media or how good mantha does in exhibition games that he will go back to Grand Rapids

I totally see a nyquist/Tatar being dealt for a fowler (much rather of had trouba, but don't have the pieces)

Sadly with all these signings I can see us losing pulkkinen jurco frk for nothing ... I just hope it's not literally nothing(rather give Andersson 2-3 7th rounders and more cracks at a gem pick than losing guys on waivers again)

I just hope jurco/frk dominates exhibition play and forces us to trade ott/Miller ... Mantha sadly with no worries about the waiver will start down in Grand Rapids

Frk will likely be waived, and will more than likely clear. Jurco or Pulkkinen will not be waived. You can say what you want about Holland, but he will definitely waive Ott and possibly even Miller before he would Jurco or Pulkkinen.

Also, the only thing Helm's $3.85M guarantees is a roster spot. He is most likely going to fit in as the 3rd line center or winger, which is exactly where he should be. There's absolutely no reason to believe he will get top 6 minutes (unless there's injuries).

NHL.com projects the lines to look like this btw.

PROJECTED LINEUP

Henrik Zetterberg - Frans Nielsen - Gustav Nyquist

Tomas Tatar - Dylan Larkin - Justin Abdelkader

Andreas Athanasiou - Darren Helm - Thomas Vanek

Drew Miller - Luke Glendening - Riley Sheahan

Danny DeKeyser - Alexey Marchenko

Brendan Smith - Mike Green

Niklas Kronwall - Jonathan Ericsson

Petr Mrazek

What about ouellet sproul? Are we allowed to carry 8 d? It's 7 right?

I'd have to think we will trade a nyquist/Tatar for a dman , can't see sheahan on the 4th ... God I wish we could get rid of Ericsson , I'd much rather have ouellet and sproul in the lineup and see what we have with them and have ericsson gone

The defensive lineup is basically no different than last year.

Marchenko is basically Quincey but without Quincey's "grit" but probably a better passing ability.

In conclusion, I still want a better defensive core before october.

That's actually not too far from what I'd envisioned. With no additional roster changes I'd like to see this:

Tatar-Larkin-Abby

Nyq-Neilsen-Vanek

Z-AA-Mantha

Sheahan-Glendening-Helm

Frk

Jurco

On defense I'd like:

Dekeyser-Green

Smith-Marchenko

Kronwall-Ericsson (I don't want Ericsson, but lets me real)

Sproul

That's with no changes. But sooner or later the Wings are going to have to move some cheap younguns' into the lineup and ditch some overpriced vets. They need to re-sign Dekeyser and Mraz this year and Tatar, AA, and Smith next year. And they won't have a lot of money to do it with. They probably should have done that this year by ditching Helm and Glendening for cheaper options but what's done is done. Losing Ott, Miller, Ericsson, and Howard next season should just about cover it.

Yep. The Helm and Glendog signings could hamper the signings next year but if Howard is moved or picked up by Las Vegas, things should be fine.

Of all the goalies made available, Howard should be the best on available for the Vegas franchise.

I just don't see Ericsson's contract being moved though.

Push comes to shove they can always waive Howard and Ericsson at some point. They'd retain about 900,000K on both contracts but the other 7 million (ish) would be freed up. AND they'd have to pay their full salaries to play in the AHL. So I'm sure the Ilitches wouldn't be too thrilled, but the money would be there.

Cam Fowler isn't even on Brendan Smith's level in terms of 5v5 numbers. Tatar for him would be the worst trade of the offseason after PK for Shea. It would be such an antiquated, Canadian-team esque move that I wouldn't doubt Holland would pull the trigger.
