Savard is not worth trading Nyquist for.

I would be interested in Werenski but he would cost more than Nyquist.

I'd say Nyquist and Mantha. Or Nyquist and a second. Something along those lines. Werenski is a prospect only, but believed to be top 2 (real) soon. Top 4 would be a bust for him, if you get the point.

When someone brought up that we had us significantly less trades then everyone else for the past 5 years - I think that's because we're really the only team in the situation of doing a rebuild without tanking at some point.

Last eleven years. No one has made fewer trades, and it's not even close.

They would probably want to move, say, David Savard or Jack Johnson. At 23 years old, Boone Jenner is coming off a 49-point season (30 goals, 19 assists). He's going to be a very good 2C, possibly even a 1C. Zach Werenski projects as a top-pairing defenseman.

Another thing to consider: the Jackets are -- or, at least, were (I haven't really read up on them in a while) -- facing a cap crunch. Nyquist's cap hit is reasonable, but if the Jackets are taking him on, then they're probably unloading some money.

I think that was his point. Columbus aren't trading Jenner or Werenski unless it's a significant overpayment. As much as I would love either, I probably wouldn't want to pay what it would likely cost...

Larkin looks more ripped, must have been working out for some gainz this summer

Assuming that was him and not Harry Potter or something.

A.K.A. since the salary cap. It's clear that has been our policy since the cap - go with homegrown draft picks and prospects for the majority of our players. In this time, I think every other team, at some point, has either traded a lot of their future in a big push to win (Pens, FLA, KIngs, etc) or traded away aging stars in order to tank and get picks (Flames, Buffalo, etc.) We haven't been in either of these extreme situations so it makes sense that we have tallied much less trades - that was what I was saying.

Now, you can argue that we should go through the cycle of boom and bust, but that's another conversation, i think.

I haven't heard anything about them wanting to trade Jenner. Again, though, I haven't been paying much attention to them -- really, the rumor mill in general -- this summer. If they are looking to move Jenner, it'd be for a big return.

Johnson, to me, has always been overrated. If I'm the Wings, I've zero interest in him. I like Savard more, but I'm not sure I'd move Nyquist for him.

I doubt there's much of a correlation.

Personally, when I point out that the Red Wings have made, like, 25 trades over the past decade (next fewest: the Devils, with something like 50), my point isn't "See? That's why we've been struggling!" Rather, my point is that Ken Holland has his head up his ass.

Two months ago people were saying "Watch! Holland's going to sign Quincey and Hudler as fre agents!". Instead they signed, Nielsen and Vanek.

Now it's "Holland will invite Quincey and Hudler to training camp!"

And then when they aren't invited what's the next attempt? Pretending like Hudler and Quincey are on the roster even though they aren't? "Look they're on the roster, I'm telling you Holland signed them, they just haven't made an appearance yet, just wait"
