Here's our problem at expansion, according to generalfanager.Com both AA and Mantha need to be protected or be exposed...now who do you protect?

Abby

AA

Mantha

Nielsen automatic

Sheahan

Tatar

Nyquist

Z

Helm

That's two too many...we get 7 fwds, 3 D and 1 G.

Another reason to look to shipping nyquist off in a D deal. No one will snag Z would they, if you left him unprotected?

Sure, but if no one claims him, they're on the books for $4.1M against the cap. The only get $900,000 relief if they waive him and he clears...

I think a lot depends on this year's performance, but I'd expect Helm and Sheahan be left unprotected. I'd worry about Z, since Vegas might want some veteran leadership and may need some help to meet the cap floor. Though if he takes another step back, it may be worth the risk.

And it's $950K in cap space, which would leave $3.05 in dead space. Either way though, it'd be enough to keep one of the kids, which I think is what Kliq was getting at.

Oh, I thought Bieska was $5M...oops. I see now it's $4M.

If Z was left unprotected and was claimed by Vegas, he'd probably retire. Sure he's leaving quite a bit of cash behind, but he's already got plenty. Can't see him wanting to start over with a new franchise put together with a hodgepodge of other teams castoffs at this point in his career.

And I agree out of that list of forwards, Helm and Sheahan stand out as the two who should be left to the pillage. But don't forget Vanek as well. If he has a big turnaround season, he will most likely get an extension. So then who goes?

Ya, but Vanek will be a ufa, so if he earns a Shiney new contract with us, he'd just have to inform Vegas that he intends to sign in Detroit, so don't pick him. I have a hard time seeing Vegas pick any pending ufa because they could lose them in July. Why waste a pick?

LMFAO. Looks like the amazing Jim Nill, who all the Holland haters always praise, ended up signing Hudler.

Any info on terms? Couldn't find none on NHL.com.

Maybe he got Jiri Hudler el cheapo. Doubtful though.

Niklas Kronwall pulled out of the World Cup today.

Weird, maybe preserving that knee?

Nvm he's injured again looks like. That sucks.

He should never have been on the team. Good for both the Red Wings and the Swedish national team that he doesn't play. From what I have gathered it's his old knee injury, he's giving it more time to improve if possible, which I doubt.

Hampus Lindholm from Anaheim replaces him, whom I have advocated trading for if at all possible. I'll enjoy watching him play in the tournament, the kid has an excellent full speed skill-set. He'll be a bona-fide star in the NHL soon enough, barring injuries.

Well that's a pretty good upgrade for team Sweden...

#RedWings Tomas Jurco had "minor" back surgery last week, hurting himself working out. Out 4-6 weeks. Might not be ready for start of season

#RedWings expect Niklas Kronwall to be ready for start of camp. Knee feels better, not 100 percent, so he withdrew f. World Cup, per Holland

#RedWings D prospect Vili Saarijarvi will have wrist surgery, sidelining him for three months, Ken Holland said. Hurt in Plymouth tourney.

So much for a roster crunch lol

Pretty bummed for Saarijarvi and Jurco. Jurco particularly really can't seem to catch a break.

Never heard of a minor back surgery. If it's a back surgery, in my opinion it is major. The lumbars and lower back carries the entire upper body.

I predict more pain and misery for Tomas Jurco.

True. That would be a good way around it. Didn't think of that.

Part of me is hoping we have a Dman injured so we can keep XO, Sproul, and Jensen at least at the beginning of the year.

Sucks for Jurco. He was already starting behind the eight ball and now the path looks harder for him.

Kronwall could be
