As cool as it would be to have the logo on the roof it's meh to me. Not like you'll see it from the ground anyways.

I agree with this perspective to a point and John Oliver did a solid episode on publicly funded arenas. I've heard arguments on the other side that also sway. I've seen that the arena is estimated to cost $627M and could go higher. Even though Ilitch is personally worth 5 billion+, I doubt his company has that amount of free cash to spend at one time so I understand if a certain amount coming from government funding.

One thing to consider on the naming issue, is that the Ilitches have essentially turned away a huge amount of money by not selling the naming rights to another company. Maybe it's their interest to have the advertising (although I don't think it's that much extra exposure - we all knew the new arena would be lined with Little Ceasars venders, signage, and they would give free pizzas at the games just like they do at the Joe). But think of the alternative of them taking a huge amount of public money and then using the arena to bring in an extra money to cover part of their end (Blues got 70 million for 20 years naming rights for the Savvis center for a random example) Probably everyone would prefer Howe arena or honoring some local hero, but I think Little Ceasars is the best option for corporate naming.

I get WHY public funding is often necessary, I'm not even against public funding. I just think that if you're going to accept public funding for your teams new arena you should probably make an effort to represent and validate their contribution rather than be wholly greedy and promote your brand to their exclusion.

I hope they change their mind on this. There's still plenty of time. This might be the one time I hope the press/media makes the idea sound stupid so they reconsider.

I can make my peace with the name but I would really prefer if the exterior was committed to the Red Wings. Red and White please.

Maybe pressure from the fans as well. It looked like they were taking a beating on their facebook posts.

But lets be realistic, they aren't going to change it.

I guess I'll give them props for that massive bait and switch they're trying to pull off. Gotta take some balls.

Okay, yeah, that is a good case for some kind of public naming. Either public voting on a name or a public figure. I think I misunderstood what you meant before.

For those those suggesting The Oven as a nickname, I disagree. I mean the Shark Tank makes sense: Sharks inside the shark tank and other teams should be wary coming in. If we have Wings inside the oven, it means our goose is cooked.

Someone should compile things other teams' players have said about coming to the Joe Louis Arena and then replace it with the new name to show how ridiculous the "LITTLE Caesar's Arena" is. I love the Illitchs obviously but I thought they actually cared about respect and tradition.

This name is the most boring un original un sexy personality of a lamp post name. Sounds like a name a 3 year old would come up with.

If it were up to me id call it: "Ol rich Mikey dug a big hole and named it after his little dough boy Cessar."

Not only am I utterly dissatisfied with the name of the Arena, I vomited in my mouth when I saw the little Caesar guy on the roof.

So no LED roof? That was part of the allure that sold this idea to me and most of the investors as well. Huge, HUGE mistake! Why does it seem all of a sudden stupid and wrong decisions are being made when it comes to this team? It can't be a money issue to nix the LED logo, WTF could it be? I don't know, it just seems like every little decision made concerning every aspect of this team is being f***ed up.

Not Happy.

I didn't think that my idea of Cadillac Centre © would be the name, but they screwed up with this one AND the rooftop.

But you would see it on every television broadcast. Instead we get a pizza character.

This is an incredibly disappointing decision for me, all around. Like most Detroit fans, I like to think that there is something special and unique about this team and its history, especially for an American-based team. A large part of that was wrapped up in our arena, and the ownership is throwing all of that away. It's an embarrassment and makes it harder to be passionate about hockey in Detroit. I seriously hope they reconsider.

Our Original 6 heritage should not have been sold so cheaply.

Welcome to the 21St century, everyone. Advertising is the way of life. The building will be amazing regardless of what it's called.

The building won't be judged by how it looks, but by what is brought into it: The history of one of the greatest sports franchises in the world.

You're completely right. It just still stings a little - maybe less because of the building itself and more because of what it says about our way of life in general.

Will it be amazing watching it on TV and seeing the little Caesar's arena logo on the roof constantly instead of the wings logo
