Welcome to the 21St century, everyone. Advertising is the way of life. The building will be amazing regardless of what it's called.

Well there a lot of things wrong in the 21 century, which were much better in the old days ... advertisement is for sure on that list.

A building without a soul is not amazing no matter how luxurious it may be. Best example is the Pens arena modern and comfortable beyond believe but Pens fans are missing the atmosphere of the igloo.

Why does every team need a new arena ? Why not improve the old one? I'm sure the Joe would have looked absolutely gorgeous with a huge renovation but no no, a bankrupt city decides to throw 200 down the toilete.

And the next plastic dome is already in the works...The new oilers arena good times

Wait, are they playing the game on the roof now?

The point on national TV and even during the pregame television feeds on Fox Sports Detroit they will have aerial shots of the Arena and the entire country will see the Little Caesars logo instead of the Detroit Red Wings logo. Absolutely disgusting and disappointing.

I can only think of Toronto but does anyone else have there logo on the roof?

Yeah, sure it would be pretty cool if it were given a better name, or if it were named after one of the greats, but it's not the worst thing that could happen.

Regarding the top of the dome, if I'm not mistaken, wasn't it said that they would be able to change it for different events? Like for a concert, they could have the band logo or artists name on top, maybe they'll have the Winged Wheel up there for every game as well.

Regardless, no matter what it's called or what logo is on the top, it's not going to stop me from ever going down for a game and rooting on the Wings...

The other problem is they sold us and teased us and teased us with awesome look of the Red Wings logo LED and now they're going to throw all this crap on top. Again I wonder who's making decisions in this organization and how come it seems like every decision made recently is the worst possible decision for success and future of this organization? Of course we were told to expect less because it's more fun. Do you want some milk for your travel home?

The problem is it sends the wrong message. Naming it after the all-time greats, the best owner in all of sports would have kept things consistent, the only difference between this and one of the other super expensive arenas will be the location, nothing else. There is no history, no Stanley cups just bland plastic luxury dome.

Backslash won't do anything because that weasel Wilson will find some way to spin it as a good idea, which it is not

Wow, this whole thing goes from bad to worse.

No disrespect, but has Mike finally lost it?

Also, the few Ilitch apologists left in here crack me up. They must not be American taxpayers, I guess.

True - just that we expect more is all.

Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI might be the only pro sports facility not whored out once the Joe is demolished.....To me - that says alot.

Perhaps thats due to the fans owning the stock of the team?

Better than Amway Arena...

Well that s***ty tasting pizza as you call it is owned by the Illitch family

Matches the s**** product currently being iced...

This is what I thought I would be seeing....

So they basically lied to the city and fans?

Basically. It was supposed to be a Red Wings arena but it's turned into a Little Caeser thing. Mike Illitch trolled us hard.

Would be one thing if tax payer money wasn't involved.

You might not care, but the people who paid tax dollars for it feel shafted. Can you say USED?!!? See quote below. Good way of explaining it.

I get WHY public funding is often necessary, I'm not even against public funding. I just think that if you're going to accept public funding for your teams new arena you should probably make an effort to represent and validate their contribution rather than be wholly greedy and promote your brand to their exclusion.

So I understand why people feel deceived about the appearance of the building and how the LED changing roof is not happening.

That just seems like a really short-sighted, stupid decision.

But as far as the name...It's not like they're just giving it to him for free. He's paying millions each year to have it that.

They were going to sell those rights to someone. It's very naive to think otherwise. Why not Little Ceasars?

As opposed to profiting that much. It's still a difference of that much money.

But that's kind of the point.

If for example Comerica bought the naming rights people might be annoyed but everyone could understand becasue they would have had to have dumped a battleship full of money onto Mr. I's front yard.

This is simply shuffling money from one of Mr. I's companies to another. He's not making any money by doing this. Sure you could say there's a gain in marketing but I'd argue it's completely negligible anyway becasue who the hell around here doesn't know about Little Caesars already. It's so incredibly self centered for such little gain. Here was a chance really rally the fan base around something and instead he sold out to himself for a marginal marketing effect. No one is surprised by the decision, and of course he but that doesn't make it any less offensive to us.

This is also ignoring the fact that half of the stadium comes from publicly funded money (I could be wrong though) so why should he get to profit off of the taxpayers capital without their consent? And also ignroing the fact of the gigantic bait and switch with the roof again for marginal corporate gain. And also ignoring the fact IT'S A FREAKING MEDIOCRE PIZZA CHAIN. NOTHING ATHLETIC ABOUT IT.

They were going to sell the rights to some company. To think otherwise is really naive.

So all this "it should have been named after a Red Wing" is pointless. Where in the NHL has that happened in today's day and age??

That's the point we aren't talking about your every day expansion , sunrise team here, this is Hockeytown, history, tradition, original 6 and all-time great players who deserved to have it makes after them

I'd rather be naive than accepting some of the stupid stuff that's going on in today's day and age. Better to change things back to the way they were what a next ads on players jerseys? Sponsored team names? Corporate bulls*** and marketing shouldn't have a place in such a historic sport.
