Datsyuk - someone who works for JLA told me he's sold his house

I don't see Bickell's contract as I do Datsyuk's and I don't think most GM's would either. Carolina still has to pay Bickell real dollars, whereas whoever is willing to take on Pav's contract won't have to spend a dime. Of course we're going to have to give up something, but I think a mid round draft pick should be enough, or maybe even Pulkkinen with a late round draft pick coming back the other way...

Frank, where did you hear this about not being able to trade him until July 1st? I was not aware of this. Do you have a link? I was of the understanding that we could trade the contract before the draft, once Ken and Pav have their sit down together...

Jared Cowen was traded to Toronto last year in the huge Phaneuf deal, and is now being bought out by the Leafs. And Jurco / Pulkkinen plus a 2nd round pick is WAY too much to give up to trade one year of a contract. If that's what it's going to cost, I hope we eat the cap hit for the remaining year that's left on the contract... Zero chance he gives up our 16th overall pick...

Well they can just put him on LTIR and not worry about it.

Sorry, my bad I misinterpreted the CBA section where it says, players can't talk to other teams before July 1 because they are under contract. So Holland can for sure talk to other teams and try to move the contract. Of course the Wings would have to give up something and I think it's only fair to start with one of the 2 guys who could need a change of scenery.

Oh didn't know that about Cowen.

What if the Wings did put Pasha on LTIR?

How much do we eat for the year?

I assume his ankle having issues and requires him to be in Russia for rehab....just sayin...

Forgive my ignorance, but does Stamkos really want to be in Detroit?

I mean - we are the team they booted outta the playoffs these past few seasons...What makes the Motor City more alluring than Toronto, or Tampa?

Tampa might not have enough money to give him. Toronto might not actually want him since they are in full rebuild mode and Detroit is as close to home as he'll get.

New arena, Larkin, face of an Original 6 franchise with the exit of Datsyuk and decline of Zetterberg. All of this is a good option only if Tampa and Toronto don't workout for him.

No denying we underachieved, even the water boy probably did. There is exciting things coming for this team though.

I honestly would be shocked if Toronto doesn't make a pitch for Stamkos...If I were gonna place a bet - I'd say he'll be a Maple Leaf this July 1st.

Even more shocking would be if he becomes a Red Wing.

True but Babcock basically hinted in an interview that he wasn't interested nor was it practical.

But I really don't trust the word of Babs. After he kept saying he had no reason to leave Detroit he booked it for Toronto so..

Wasn't a huge reason Stamkos was somewhat unhappy in Tampa due to being moved to the wing? In Toronto they'll have some combination of Matthews, Kadri, Nylander, Bozak down the middle. Stamkos would be the best option for them at center right now, but will he be within a year or two if Matthews and Nylander develop into half the players Leafs fans believe them to be?...

In Detroit, he would be guaranteed the number one center position now and possibly for the foreseeable future. Right now Larkin shouldn't be any higher than a number two center, maybe he becomes a legit number one, maybe not. Behind him, we have Sheahan and Athanasiou who is still an unknown at this point. I'm not saying Stamkos would choose to come to Detroit over Toronto, but if he's leaving Tampa, I believe there is a legit possibility he could come to Detroit...

There are obvious pros and cons to both Detroit and Toronto for Stamkos, just as there were for Babcock. Babcock made the wrong choice, maybe Stamkos will as well...

I meant Babcock made the wrong choice because he will never have a chance to win again, but hey who cares when you can now wipe your a** with $100 bills... Babs is a great coach, but I was more than happy when he moved on.

Buffalo is also close to Toronto, haha.

I just don't know if Toronto is close to shaking their perennial loser reputation. At least the Wings make playoffs. We are certainly closer to competing than the Leafs, so that's in our favor. Also he'd be our number one center, no chance he gets put on the wing here. Our franchise also has a reputation and money to blow. We may have struggled in recent years but we've set our mind on competing again and when the Wings really committ to winning, we win. We've just been in a weird holding pattern since 2010.

I don't know if that factors in but there's got to be a confidence that now that we've decided things have to changed our leadership knows how to do it.
