Well there's one thing I'm very confident in, and that's that there is zero chance Holland would trade away any of those guys to get rid of Datsyuk's contract for one season...

I highly doubt that any team seriously expects to get those types of player in the trade, but of course they're going to start (ridiculously) high.

In the end, I do think Datsyuk gets traded for a very fair deal. Something along the lines of Datsyuk, Pulkkinen and a 5th to a low budget team for a 3rd...

Saw it on twitter ... Think it was from the Detroit free press , didn't mention a specific team it just mentioned those are the players teams are asking for

It's called negotiation. Other teams ask for a lot, Holland offers low, they meet somewhere in the middle. In the end they'll lose a Jurco/Pulk level prospect. Someone who can jump in and play for their new team right away.

I don't like tanking like some of you do, I think it's bad form, bad faith and just bad all around. But if that's what they're asking for to trade Datsyuk's contract we should hang on to it. Try and move some of the other chaff to free up space (Howard, Ericsson, etc.). I don't want to tank for the first pick but there's no sense in losing our good prospects to move a contract that is mutually beneficial to both teams. If I were Holland I'd warn them that such demands would seriously compromise their reputation among the old boy's club. But anyway, in that case it's best just to unload the chaff with no future just so we're in a better position next year to play the market.

Ericsson, for example, will only get worse. This is the time to trade him, even if we get hardly anything in return. And it's likely we wouldn't get much in return but it's better than sitting with his full contract for four years and having him take a roster spot.

Yes I'm well aware of how it works , I just asked if it came down to that would anyone be upset that holland refused and we held on the datsyuks contract for the year

It's called negotiation.

It's also called the Detroit media. It's always, always, always, always the same line. "Ken Holland is trying to find a deal that makes sense for the organization, but every GM wants our top young talent. So his hands are tied. So you can't get mad at him. Being a GM is really hard. Sometimes the best trade is the one you don't make. Ken Holland has a hottt bod and dreamy eyes."

If Buffalo offers $12M, they can have him... F*** that!

Stamkos would be dumb to take that. I know they have Eichel already, but people don't go to Buffalo to win Stanley Cups. They could offer him $20 mil a year and he should turn it down unless he's strictly in this for the money. The best case scenario for Stammer is to get a good blend of both, which is where I feel like the Wings are right now. We've been competitive for 25 straight years, have had more success than any other team during that time, we have a good young nucleus that could develop and reach its potential even quicker with Stamkos on board and we're giving him a pretty impressive contract. I think we're in a good position right now, if in fact, we are going to offer $70 mil for 7 years.

Holland used to know that most prospects don't pan out so it's OK to trade them. He's forgotten that.

Speaking of Stamkos, Dreger is beginning to sound like a broken record:

(I'm "Taro Tsujimoto." Been meaning to make some kind of a fake Dreger Twitter account, or maybe a blog. The idea is, I wouldn't say anything of value, but you'd end up learning as much as you do from the real Dreger. Which is nothing.)

Holland talks about our young talent out of both sides of his mouth. "We've got to draft and develop and promote from within -- but this is A Man's League and we feel that, right now, Joakim Andersson adds an important element to our team that Anthony Mantha doesn't. We feel Anthony has the potential to be a real good player. But you've got to be able to play without the puck in this league. If you can't play without the puck, you're not going to have any success in this league. You've got to be real good defensively, on the defensive side of the puck, in the defensive zone. Defense. Also, I know our defense group sucks, but every GM wants our top young talent, so there's no hockey store I can go to and magically acquire a top defenseman."

(Drew Miller will be re-signed.)

If we have to keep Datsyuks contract I'd like to see us sign okposo, trade for Hartnell (bad contract for bad contract), and trade Nyquist (plus) for a defenseman.

Okposo-Larkin-Abby

Tatar-Sheahan-Hartnell

Z-AA-Mantha

Miller-Glendening-Jurco

We could weather the storm for a year with this lineup until Days was off the books.

i just cant see us getting anyone huge if we dont move dats contract i see the wings just signing their RA and resigning Helm and Miller and thats about it coming back ith the same team minus Richards Q and Dats this might be the year that management weathers the storm and forgets the push to keep the streak sad but true

Yea NHL radio was talking about Malkin to Chicago. I don't know how they could possibly afford Kane, Toews, Seabrook, Keith, Hossa, Malkin, and extend Panarin next year. But for whatever reason Stan Bowman finds a way.

You'd have to trade Seabrook and maybe a Hossa? Heres what I don't get out of all the rumors. Why would penguins even want to trade him? Coming off a cup and I believe still fine on cap.
