I want to know if you get what I'm saying.

Z gets $73 million regardless. But the organization wanted him to do it over 12 years rather than 10 to reduce his cap hit. It's the organization that cheated the system. Not Z.

Z signing it is a favor he did for them.

I get it.

Don't really want to bring up the numbers retirement stuff, that is not why I posted here. I just didn't want to start a thread for one video link I found while searching for some Vladdy videos.

We all know the story on how Fedorov defected here, we all know his HOF career, but there is one sentence in this video that really had me taken aback. When talking about defecting and it being half scary and half exciting he said that he thought he'd never see his parents again, but when he said it was "a little more exciting" than scary because "he knew he wouldn't be starving to death here." Wow, that really hit me, back in those days I never even thought that they faced those big of struggles as to be "starving to death." I guess I just took and take for granted all the amenities here in the Western World. It hits me that when they started defecting is wasn't just for money and fame, it was actually to get to F out of Russia and put some food on the table. Even though I was always a huge fan, I now have even more respect for Fedorov (and the other Russians) who defied the Soviet Union to come here for a life that could be lived and play a little hockey as Fedorov says in the video.

I mean, Stalin killed 7 million Ukrainians/Kulaks just in the 1930's alone... and Ukraine is known as the breadbasket of Eastern Europe. Gotta think killing off the people who grow most of your food probably doesn't help you feed the rest of your nation for the foreseeable future. Soviets were a-holes.

If I remember correctly, the Red Army had all the hockey players in an army barracks training for 10 hours a day 11 months a year. No access to their families during that time. I wonder why they all wanted to defect...

Tough call, but I'm in the "91 only camp". I got there by imagining how I'd feel seeing someone new wearing those digits. While I'm not thrilled with the idea of someone else sporting a #13 sweater(for instance), it doesn't hit me like a POSER wearing number 91 does. Both Fedorov and Datsyuk were unique players the likes of which we may never see again, but Feds absolutely belonged in the HoF while Datsyuk is on the bubble there, partly because he didn't play longer, but it is what it is. Absolutely loved watching Pasha play hockey, but he couldn't dominate a game quite the way Fedorov could...that guy was on another planet when he switched "it" on.

I'd hate seeing someone else wearing #40 as well, but for different reasons. Don Zetterberg would freaking END THEM for stepping on his turf!

Ozzy...pffffttt whatever. Perhaps we could just retire his # during the playoffs. lol

When Mario Lemieux is on the ice and he ain't the best forward, that says something about the guy that is.

I lived in Soviet Russia back in the early 90's.  It's not that anyone starved, but that you had to wait in line forever for food sometimes, and didn't really have the pickings of what you wanted.  You ate what was available and not what you wanted to eat.  Limited choices.

You couldn’t have 5 guys? Or burgers and fries? That’s lame.
