I would agree mainly because he hasn't even entered his prime yet. His production could go up in the next couple years and be underpaid. Right now, he is paid right about where he should be for a 3rd line player who gets about 13 minutes of ice time per game.

Are we sure a 3rd line player who is trending up is only worth $2M? Hmmmm.....maybe you have to be trending down to get more. :ninja:

Someone would have to convince me why Helm is worth 2X what Jarnkrok is getting.

Maybe the value in the deal is term....which is very valuable to players...very few are going to have long careers in the league....getting a 6 year guaranteed contract is pretty valuable for most.

Krsmith you available? Because I think we ALL need to know how Helm is worth more than this...outside of Holland just, once again, way over paying his mediocre players...as usual.

There has to be something analytics to prove that Helm is way more valuable than Jarnkrok.

Helm is definitely not way better than Jarnkrok. This is more so a great deal by Poile than the Helm contract being a terrible deal by Holland... Jarnkrok took a major discount on salary to get longer term. I think he could have and probably should have either gotten a higher salary or taken a much shorter term. For every steal out there, I can point out a player of the other extreme...

I dont follow Jarnkrok much, but if he was willing to sign this deal maybe there is a reason.

If he and his people believed that he had Darren Helm upside, I'm not sure he would have signed for 6 years at 2mil per year.

Thats what happens when you have to sign a vet vs a young kid.

I guess the question is... How good is Calle Jarnkrok?

57 points and a +10 in 167 regular season games.

3 points and a -7 in 20 playoff games.

24 years old Center and is 5'11" 186 lbs.

In my opinion he's one of those players who doesn't excel at any one thing. Combine that with the fact that he's undersized and he will struggle to find a true role on his team.

Good depth player who can add some offense.

Well his first two years we're okay but last year he turned it up and did much better with 16 goals and 30 points. If he continues to get better then the contract will look like a steal. 30 points could be 40 or so a year 2-3 years from now. But it's certainly a low risk and could be a high reward contract for them.

At age 24 he's getting towards his prime. If he was 30 and given a 6 year contract. Well. That's not so nice.

Kind of reminds me of when Z was signed for like $2.5 million a year for 4 years and was tearing it up 2nd year into his contract around 25 or 26 years old. At the time Z was a third liner eventually promoted to 2nd line. Jankrok aint Z but who knows. Any sort of increase in production will make the contract look good. Alternatively if he reverts to scoring only 7 goals it will look s***ty.

I disagree. Holland would have given him half the term and quite possibly even less salary. I bet if he were still a Wing with the same role and production, he would have received a 2-3 year, $1.75-2M AAV. Holland has always been good at extending his RFA's to bridge deals, it's the UFA's that I get worried about...

Only reason he had an increase in points last year was because he got top 6 minutes before Johansen came in, and some injuries. He won't break 30 points again if he's a 3rd line minutes.

I remember people on here freaking out when Holland traded him saying he was our future top line center lol.

I guess that's part of the reason not to be too worried about Sproul and Jensen. I hate losing kids for free, but if they were going to be something, they'd either already be here or had significant time up here.

I know I like to pretend I know s***, I know some, but if I really knew, I wouldn't be stuck in my crappy job the last 26 years, I'd be working for a team. But anyway, my point is, I do trust the kid development and trust that they know whether or not someone has nhl potential.

We really don't miss any kid he's traded or lost to waivers. I just hate some of the contracts he gives to his UFA'S.

I hope he has a d trade in the works, but if not were just going to have to hold on tight.

DD - Smith

Kronwall - Green

E - Marchenko

XO

Just go for it. Yes I put Smith on top, it's his ufa year, time to prove your worth. I personally rather have E sit and XO play, but I know better...

Oops, sorry, guess tgat should've been in the other thread. I was referring to trading Jarnkrok and got off on a tangent for a moment...
