Ryspayev Should Be Banned.. Disgusting.

If someone is going after multiple guys who obviously have no intention of fighting and sucker punching them I feel they should be allowed to defend themselves and crack him over the head with their sticks. Game or not you need to be able to defend yourself especially when some ragehound is going over the line. What they should have done is pull his ass over the boards when he came flying at the bench instead of pushing him out.

Since Downey, not really. Had Brad May, but he was at the end of his career and i'm not sure if he even dressed for one game with the Wings. I know he played a bit in GR. As for Ott, he might not be what he was in his Dallas days, or the best fighter, but he could be a deterrent to some players taking liberties with the skill guys. Sometimes that's all you need is for the opposing team to know you have someone who will stick up for his teammates if need be.

Pretty sure Brad May played a lot more than one game with the Wings.

And he did, with a lot of hugging...

Ott was never a tough guy. He routinely got his ass kicked by guys who could actually fight. He was an antagonist and, in his prime, a good checker. Not sure what he brings to Detroit at this stage of his career.

That's one bad hockey fight.

Abdelkader probably lost his first 10 fights when he came into the league. He's seemed to gotten better the last 2 years or so. Never knew Ott was't that good. I guess I never followed his fights that much.

Anyone who thinks Ott is still the guy who would stop this is going to be disappointed.

Ott was never a guy who would "stop" anything. Aside from the fact that fighting doesn't deter anything ever, even IF it did, I sincerely doubt the deterrent value of a 190 lb, loudmouth who lost most of his career fights.

And yet people are already talking about how he's going to keep the flies off and be some superhero.

I disagree and besides fighting makes great entertainment. You never see anyone at a hockey game when a fight breaks out just sitting and yawning do you?

Have we had any good fighters since Downey? I don't consider Abdelkader a good one. Maybe for today's standards he might be decent.

May and Tootoo.

Even by today's standards, Abdelkader isn't anything special. Not terrible, but not intimidating at all.

Ott has never been a good fighter, but his career total of 100 NHL fighting majors tells you he doesn't mind doing it.

Abdelkader got drilled a few times earlier in his career. I specifically remember scraps against Ryane Clowe and Ryan Wilson that really didn't go well for him. Most of his fights don't last very long and don't involve many punches thrown. He beat up Max Lapierre twice, so he's got that going for him.

Fine, so Ericsson goes after Benn again and this time gives him a concussion. Goes both ways.

But it didn't.. That's what I mean. In reality, Ericsson fighting Benn in the 1st period didn't stop him from hurting Zetterberg in the 2nd period nor did it scare him away. That fight never resolved anything and it's been a year since the incident anyway. It was just an entertaining fight with absolutely nothing accomplished. That's part of what Kip's point was I believe.

I don't see why he was suspended. So he made a bunch of Russian ******* turtle and run....

KHL should've just shipped him off to North America as punishment. The NHL isn't the rough and tumble league it once was, but I can easily name you 50 NHLers off the top of my head who would kick the s*** out of this guy.

I realize that you are joking, just remember that as a result of Ryspaev's actions a Slovakian-born player had to go to the hospital with severe concussion, and that the team he beat up on was a Beijing-based team, which has Swedes, Finns, Russians, and Chinese players on it.

So if a guy like Rafi Torres did that to Dylan Larkin and knocked him out indefinitely with a concussion, you wouldn't care and would be against a suspension?

Takes quite a beating at the end there from Alexander Svitov.

Gets a few in at the beginning, but doesn't really do much against Evgeny Artyukhin. So he's real comfortable running around taking shots at guys who have no intention of fighting back, but can't really hang with guys who are used to dropping the gloves.

At least he's willing to drop the gloves. Funny how Svitov was a high draft pick and turned into a goon in the KHL.

Yeah, this guy's coach, Andrei Nazarov, got tuned a few times in his NHL days. Guy has acted like a total asshat since he began coaching in the KHL. Pretty sure he was the head coach of those Vityaz morons who did this kind of stuff almost on a nightly basis.

He was their coach. Their GM was Alexei Zhamnov of all people.

Svitov is actually a pretty good fighter. He's decimated some decent fighters the last few seasons.
