Only 31 y/o for a stable defensive defenseman. It's a steal alright.

100% agree. That is a steal by NJ. He may not be worth 4mil/year, but hes definitely worth more then 1mil/year. Its too bad we couldn't have dumped E and signed Quincey for that price, he would be a great 3rd pairing guy.

Quite a wait and see game going on this year for depth defensemen. For reference, Denis Seidenberg was just signed for a cool million for one year by the Islanders. Seems like there were multiple parties involved but NY was the first to jump.

Guess Boston was overpaying him for years tho', huh?

UFA defensemen still available: (per generalfanager.com)

Kris Russell

Christian Ehrhoff

Dan Boyle, Marek Zidlicky, Mattius Ohlund (if they didn't actually retire?)

Brad Stuart

Jay Harrision

Colaiacovo

Jackman

If Holland isn't going to keep the kids around or trade for The Targets, I wouldn't mind giving Russell and nice deal. Sure he's not a #1, but he is a great pk'er and shot blocker, he also can throw his weight around. I'm really surprised he's not sign somewhere. He must want too much...
