3 Bold Predictions for 2016-2017

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Thought we'd do the bold predictions thread again.

I'm basically going to copy and paste the rules from last year's thread.

The Rules: You get THREE predictions for the whole league. They need to be BOLD but not fantastical (based on your discretion and subject to LGW scrutiny), and you can't use a paragraph and a half to explain each one. Keep it short, simple, and BOLD.

Here are my 3 bold predictions -

1. Patrik Laine wins the Calder Trophy

2. The Capitals get eliminated in the first round of playoffs

3. Dylan Larkin does NOT end up leading the Red Wings in points; Henrik Zetterberg will (again).

Check out last year's bold predictions and see if you were correct!

Pulk and Frk will both be regular healthy scratches for their new teams by the end of December.  Some people wil still complain about losing them.

Smith will be one of the Wings' best defensemen.  This will not be a good thing.

Austin Mathews will run away with the Calder and the Leafs will still suck.

1) Jacub Trouba is traded to the Red Wings for Tatar and DD in November after a being a late holdout

2) Nashville wins the Stanley Cup against the Washington Capitals

3) Florida Panthers have a huge regression and do not make the playoffs

1/ Wings won´t trade for a top pairing D, because price will be too high.

2/ Smith will be the Wings´ best defenseman. This will be a good thing.

3/ Pulkk will make 20+ goals season and Ott will be benched after five games.  (this: I don´t think so, but I wish it happens as this will be a slapshot into monsigneur Kenneth´s face).

1.) Miller and Ott play a combined 160 games (>15 mins. per game) and get less than 25 points between them. Still get praised for their awwwesome defensive ability and penalty kill prowess, but are bottom of the league in possession stats... once again...

2.) Athanasiou and Mantha play a combined 60 games (<10 mins. per game) and get more than 40 points between them. Still get criticized for their defensive ability, but are top of the team in possession stats...

3.) Sheahan has a breakout year on the wing, scores 20 goals, 45 points.

1. Neither Mrazek or Howard is our starting goalie by the end of the year.

2. Tatar will lead the team in goals, Nyquist will be on another team, Vanek will be a pleasant surprise.

3. The Wings will make the playoffs for the 26th straight year despite all these "experts" picking us to finish LAST (seriously?) in the Atlantic.

1. Matthews will make a bigger impact for his team than Eichel or McDavid.

2. Jimmy Howard will be traded at or before the trade deadline.

3. We will get an upgrade at defense, but it won't be any of the names thrown around this past off season.

Unfortunately, I don't think those first two are very bold, but I really endorse that third predicition.

I agree e_prime. Those first two are way too likely to be considered anything close to a bold prediction... Scrap them, here it is...

1.) Sheahan has a breakout year on the wing, scores 20 goals, 45 points.

2.) Frk out-produces Vanek this year.

3.) Ericsson is a frequent healthy scratch, and Sproul is in the running for Calder... - Bold enough for you?

Red Wings specific predictions for this season:

1. Red Wings will not make the playoffs this year and it won't even be close.

2. Brendan Smith will get an increased role (nr 2/3/4) and perform well most of the time if you disregard the occasional brainmelts.

3. Tatar will step up and start producing big time, barring injuries. Top 3 in team scoring, possibly #1.

1. Tatar and Larkin both score 30+.

2. Mantha will score around 18 in the AHL before Christmas and LGW.com will be going crazy that he's not on the team. Then he'll be on the team after Christmas.

3. The NHL's Concussion lawsuit will be resolved with a settlement suspiciously close to the expansion fee that the Las Vegas Knights will pay.

1. Matthews doesn't win the Calder.

2. McDavid wins the Art Ross and Rocket Richard trophies but not the Hart.

3. Nashville wins the cup in seven over the Sharks, who fall just short again.

#3 is bold, with them being in the same conference and all lol

1 - Wings make the playoffs, or don't make the playoffs....haven't decided which prediction to go with yet - both could be considered bold depending on who you talk to.

2 - Zetterberg retires at end of season.

3 - Edm makes the playoffs, lose in first round

1. Larkin will lead the Wings in points. And there will be a more than 10 point difference to the 2nd best in the team.

2. The Caps will win their first Stanley Cup.

3. Holland will find a way to trade for Trouba or another young No.1 D-Man.

For #1 - Larkin hasn't led the Red Wings in points in season yet. This year could be his first time.

I was 0/3 last year (though props to kipwinger for nailing his). Let's try this again:

1. The Wings blow everyone here away and make the playoffs easily (2nd in division)

2. We have 2 30-goal scorers at the end of the season - Nyquist and Larkin. Tatar barely misses the mark.

3. Vegas finally reveals their name and it doesn't suck.

I have three more

Abdelkader will never score 20 goals in a season again

AA will average under 14 minutes a night and still outscore Helm and Abdelkader

Detroit will be 4-6 points out of the playoffs near the deadline and Holland will make a desperation trade to get them in.  It will not work.
