Trouba would be nicer, as he is right handed.  Mantha + Ouellet would get it done.

The asking price by the Jets was Larkin plus another forward. No way the above offer gets it done. I wish it would, but no way.

This isnt the Manhattan housing market.  A good GM shouldn't have to pay asking price to get Trouba out of Winnepeg.

It doesn't matter how good a GM is, Winnipeg is trying to prove a point that they wont be pushed around by players. They already hold a reputation that players dont want to play there. There are going to hold out until they get the right deal, as if they give in, this could happen again and again.

The best thing we can hope for is that they play like crap, and then the teams starts to feel the pressure to make the move. Trouba is going to be good, but if trading him can be the difference between making the playoffs or not, I can see them making a move.

Actually it will be even worst if they won´t be able to trade/sign him, it´s like saying: "hey, he doesn´t want to play here, we don´t want to let him go for free and are unable to find the solution, so we´re going to act like a stupid and let him go for free later then. ", what´s imo the reason why they will trade him finally (if Trouba has some balls and won´t accept bridge).

Trouba has wanted out of Winnipeg for quite a while now, and this situation is just making it worse. If they make him sit out an entire season without trading him, would he become a UFA after this season? Or would he still be an RFA? I agree with kliq that Cheveldayoff should be playing hard ball, or he could find himself in this situation again and again. But at what point should he be willing to accept a lesser deal? I mean, they haven't exactly been playing great hockey to start the season. They're sitting on a very good asset that obviously doesn't want to play for them, when they could get a pretty nice return to help the team now and in the future... I bet he eventually cracks leading up to the December 1st deadline, when there's a little more pressure to get something worked out...

I have been VERY impressed (surprised) with Ouellet so far this season, and he has been our best defenseman for stretches in these 4 games. He was far and away our best defenseman last night, and the argument could be made about all 4 games... Maybe, just maybe he becomes an intriguing piece for Winnipeg. He's around the same age as Trouba (7 months older), left-handed shot, potential top 4, which is exactly what they're looking for... Obviously more would have to be added to make it work, but maybe Nyquist / Tatar, Ouellet and a pick could be enough leading up to deadline a little over a month away...

You mean like their stellar 2 -2 start where their only definitive win was a 4-0 victory over the Flames?  OT wins against Carolina and TO.  Loss to Boston.  ???That kind of crap????  ;)

Let's send it over to e_prime for our daily Defenseman-Watch Update:

Quote
Jacob Trouba of the Winnipeg Jets and Hampus Lindholm of the Anaheim Ducks
On the Anaheim Ducks …

Bob McKenzie: Anaheim Ducks RFA Hampus Lindholm would be giving up two years of unrestricted free agency compared to the one-year for Rasmus Ristolainen on a six-year deal, which is why he’s looking for a little more.

Bob McKenzie: Guessing that they are around $250,000 a year apart on a six-year deal. The Ducks have cap/budget issues and potentially a trade that they have to deal with as well.

On the Winnipeg Jets …

Scott Billeck of the Winnipeg Free Press: The agent for Jacob Trouba, Kurt Overhardt, said there isn’t concern about Trouba missing the entire NHL season. To be eligible to play in the NHL this season, RFAs must be signed before December 1st.

“It’s only Oct. 17… it’s not something on our minds,” Overhardt said Monday. “There’s obviously a lot of time between now and then. We’re going to continue to keep working in good faith and try helping to facilitate a positive transaction so everyone can benefit.

“It’s not really an issue at this point.”

If Trouba doesn’t have a NHL contract in place by December 1st, they do have a plan in place.

“We have to contemplate everything, but it’s not something we are going to discuss as it involves our client and it’s a private matter,” he said, adding he’d spoken with Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff earlier in the day. “Any of the conversations we have with (the Jets) are very amicable and those are private, too.”

On the Winnipeg Jets and Jacob Trouba … the Anaheim Ducks and Hampus Lindholm …

Michael Traikos of the National Post: Though their situations are different, Jacob Trouba and Hampus Lindholm are at a similar crossroads. Both RFAs are 22-year old and would like more money and/or opportunity to show that they are young stars.

“I think we all know that we wouldn’t be in this situation right now if it wasn’t a young man’s game,” said Kurt Overhardt, who represents Trouba. “Part of it is systemic. But the other part is the skill level of players coming out of junior and college and Europe is pretty incredible.

“We’ve got 18-, 19- and 20-year-olds playing huge roles on teams. And at 22 years old, a player doesn’t want to stay around waiting if he thinks his ability is greater than the opportunity he’s been given, because there’s really great players in front of him.”

Neither Trouba or Lindholm have much negotiating leverage as they wait for a deal to get done.

“The season is more than three games,” said player agent Claude Lemieux, who represents Lindholm. “Trying to get a long-term deal is more than just the performance of the team during a short period of time. There’s definitely motivation from both sides to try and get a deal done.”

Michael Traikos: Trouba’s agent Kurt Overhardt: “This is nothing like (Jonathan) Drouin. It shouldn’t be personal. We continue to speak to the club — everything’s amicable”

If Holland adds enough value, then Trouba should be available.

It all comes down to the question "is Hollands offer more valuable to the Jets then the offers being made by the other 28 teams". Not that every team is going to put in an offer, but the Jets are going to see what is out there and wait unless Holland throws an offer they cannot refuse at them right now (ie. Larkin) which I wouldn't even do 1 for 1. With that being said, if too much time passes and Detroit's offer is the best one, then they may accept it. It wont be now though. Chevy is currently swinging for the fences, we need to wait until he's willing to accept a double.

I don't think Mantha has been an enigma at all... I think he has taken a natural path of progression, it's just that some fans had way too high expectations on the kid coming out of junior. He broke his leg two years ago, which naturally caused him to have somewhat of a down year. Last year he showed steady improvement, and he's off to an amazing start to this season... Mantha will be a very good NHL player, it just depends on when and with what team... Hopefully soon and with the Red Wings. He's exactly the type of player this team needs in their lineup.

Frans and Vanek is what this team needed, now we need D

I am neutral on Mantha, to me yes his game needs to develop more, but that is why is an enigma to me

Wings need a few defenseman, this is known... Do we overpay? A trade will happen, just when and who will be involved is the question. We have too many forwards - even after losing Frk and Pulks for nothing

No they aren't one is signed for too long and the other guy isn't a center nor a defenseman. Sure, if Vanek keeps this up he might net a nice return come the trade dead line but there is also the risk of Kenny resigning him.

No, they need top line talent. Nielsen is a second line center signed at least 3 years too ling. Vanes is a second line winger coming off a horrible deal and had a history of motivation issues. He's playing at a high level now, but let's give him a few more weeks before calling him a stud.

I'm not too worried about Vanek for this season, the guy is playing for his next contract. Sign him to a multi-year deal, that's when I would start to worry.

Agreed, but I'd probably still trade him for Trouba.

Vanek will not be traded. It's almost a guarantee Kenny will re-sign him if he scores anywhere near 30 and makes the PP a legit force again.

Nielsen will be fine. There's no reason he cannot play out his contract and contribute every year. His health history is fantastic.

When Jurco comes back, I see AA being sent down. Business. Until Holland deals Jurco and one of Nyquist or Tatar there is no room here for AA or Mantha...unfortunately. Again, business.

If Holland can trade Howard for a pick, that'll allow him to acquire Fowler for a pick or a low wage earner. Then he can turn another package for Trouba. I know I'm treading on fantasy hoping for both, but it can be done and until it doesn't happen, I'm still holding on. Of course getting both will mean saying goodbye to probably XO, and most likely Smith. Leaving Sproul as the #8 guy when Kronwall returns.

Even players who are relatively healthy slow down in their mid 30s, unless they're a freak like Jagr or Chelios

To be fair, he didn't say Nielsen wouldn't slow down, he said:

"Nielsen will be fine. There's no reason he cannot play out his contract and contribute every year. His health history is fantastic".

The implication here is that he will be a contributing member of this team until his contract is over. Not that he will stay at the exact level he is at today.

If Mantha gets us Trouba, it must be done. Not like Blashill is gonna play him anyway. At least Trouba would make the roster by default.

Wouldn't surprise me if trouba went on waivers soon enough the way were going ha

think giving up mantha would be foolish , he's finally stepping it up and people just want to part with him?i don't think were going to win the cup in a few years anyways so im willing to wait till trouba becomes a ufa if need be , I'm convinced he'd come to Detroit when he gets the chance and we also keep the big winger who has size and skating ability and can score in bunches

Larkin was an enigma, just because mantha isn't here now means he's going to be a bust (not saying you said he would be , just saying ) just look what we're doing to athanasiou now , kid should be in an offensive role not  being turned into a 4th liner and penalty killer specialist

if mantha keeps it up and gets 15 in 15 then it's time to stop messing around and get him a spot, as much as I like Tatar/nyquist there gonna have to go Sooner or  later to make room for the kids, sheahan might even be gone soon enough, although I like him on a fourth line role  with the likes of bertuzzi, turgeon etc.. Coming in 1-2 yrs

anyways as you can see I'm a believer in mantha, although trouba would be nice I don't think we can land him with a good dman going to the jets anyways and we don't have any

He'd better not f***en score 30 goals then lol , no way vanek should even be considered for a second to return to Detroit after this season

When you have to choose between a high-end dman and a high-end winger, you go with the dman. They are a hell of a lot more difficult to come by these days. Giving up Mantha would not be foolish. It would be a realistic asset to have to part ways with to acquire a potential #1 defenseman.
