NEW YORK/TORONTO -- On the 99th anniversary of the first games played in National Hockey League history, the League announced Monday the year-long content initiatives that will bring its Centennial celebration to life in stories, statistics, images and more in 2017.

On December 19, 1917, the Montreal Canadiens defeated Ottawa, 7-4, at Dey's Arena in Ottawa and the Montreal Wanderers trimmed Toronto, 10-9, at Westmount Arena in Montreal, in the first-ever NHL games played. Replicas of the score sheets are below, providing just a sample of the information that will be available as the NHL honors its treasured history and tradition.

The League will launch the site NHL.com/100, the central hub of all NHL® Centennial news, content, videos and images, on Jan. 1. This dedicated microsite will house daily editorial coverage, video content featuring rare footage, plus dedicated features, photo collections, player biographies and information about the NHL Centennial Fan Arena and NHL Centennial events

....

As I have a vested interest in a player involved in one of the inaugural games played, I am tickled pink to read the news of this new site.

More information can be gleaned at nhl dot calm.

I'm guessing that this story, regarding some long overdue "statistical housekeeping", has something to do with NHL 100

From the CBC: Rocket Richard's points total rises to 966 after having assist restored.

It's not as if any great injustice was done, but Montreal Canadiens legend Maurice Rocket Richard getting an assist added to his prodigious NHL scoring totals.

Six years of poring over scoresheets and summaries of games between 1917 and 1987 by an NHL statistics team has found and fixed more than 6,000 bits of information that were overlooked or misregistered in the league's early eras.

...

Also of note...

Finding little gems of information like the Richard assist was one product of a massive undertaking to update and modernize the league database, which is to be re-launched this week.
