Thats not the LeftWinger we all love and know....here let me pour fuel on the fire. What his LV offered to swap picks with Holland for a 5th rounder and Helm and Holland said no. Lets discuss.

But he won 3 championships as a child! You can mock hardware all you want kickazz, but you are just a keyboard expert who doesn't understand intangibles!

Now you know Holland would never trade a loyal player. But I'm sure Holland would still bypass him even if they swapped. Two years now, he has shown he has no idea...

Maybe someone could Photoshop Holland's head on the infamous kathy Griffin photo...now thatd be funny.

Id make that my avatar.

Too many picks for me to keep up. I am confident a few of these will pan out. Thing is, as Ken Holland said, we need stars, or really really good players.

The first round pick still gives me a sour mouth. Should have picked Tippett, he was there. He will be a star, just not sure how bright.

Last pick only one under 6 foot now if half these big boys make it we will have size just in time as the game shifts back to small fast players...LOL

So they DID take Petruzelli. Who was the top ranked goalie in the draft from Boston U, projected as low first/high second. Forget the name don't want to look it up . Haha

Nope, just checked. Not related to Doug. Still, a good looking player. Saw him on a list of the top 10 OHL prospects.

Yeah he's kind of a steal at that draft spot. Saginaw assistant captain with 50-60 points. Only entering his second OHL season, but looks good so far.

LOL First on the list too. Rasmussen was a surprise choice. His size inflated his stock quite a bit by the reactions I've read.

Kings didn't even hesitate to nab Vilardi at 11th. Ten teams passed him over, one after Detroit.

Losers

Red Wings

Maybe Michael Rasmussen ends up becoming the dream power forward the Red Wings are hoping he’ll be after selecting him with the No. 9 overall pick. But there are massive red flags in Rasmussen’s production at the junior level that beg questions about picking him in the top 10 with guys like Gabriel Vilardi and Owen Tippett still on the board.

Rasmussen recorded 55 points in 50 games with the WHL’s Tri-City Americans, but 29 of his points came on the power play. Just 24 of his points came at even strength, and even fewer at 5-on-5, which isn’t a good sign for his ability to translate production to the NHL level.

There’s a ton to like about Rasmussen’s game as a 6’6 forward who’s comfortable with the puck, solid defensively, and knows how to use his size to win puck battles. Bob McKenzie ranked him No. 9 in the class, so it’s not like it’s a pick totally out of left field.

But it’s hard to get over the lack of even strength production in the WHL from a top-10 pick, particularly given the other talent still available.

First, I'd like to say everyone dumping on Holland and saying he's an "idiot" or whatever need to understand he's not making these decisions entirely by himself.  These draft picks are the collective input from scouts, coaches, staff, ownership, etc.  Some of you act like Holland is just ignoring the voices of reason and doing whatever he wants.  Ultimately, he makes the decision, but he's making these decisions based on the input from a lot of other people.

Second, while there are players I would have rather drafted in the first round, I have to give him credit for going against the grain.  Back in the 90's, everyone looks for high octane offensive minded players and we went with speedy two way guys.  Since we were pretty much the only team going in that direction, we had our pick of pretty much anyone we wanted.  Today, the game has changed and there are a lot of teams drafting those types of players, trying to replicate that success.  There's also a lot of teams shifting their defensemen to be more offensive minded puck moving, speedsters.  After watching this draft, the Wings are clearly moving towards being a bigger, more physical team, which kind of makes sense.  Most teams are not built the way the Wings are apparently going to be built now.  Its a copycat league and if everyone is building their team to be fast, who's going to handle these big forwards standing in front of the net?  Who's going to be strong enough to get the puck off our power forwards?  Maybe this will end up not being the best idea and it won't work, but I'm going to give Holland and the rest of the front office decision makers credit for trying to do something different.  Nobody ever got ahead by being like everyone else.

I will say, I wanted Vilardi like mostly everyone on here, but when 8 teams passed him over and then another two, I couldn't help but wonder why. I watched the kid play once in person, and he didnt impress me at all. If anything the kid on the Spits that really impressed me was Jeremy Bracco. That kid can skate!

Very good point. It is funny how when Det drafts a good kid Holland gets zero credit, but when its a bad pick he gets 100% of the blame. Definite double standard.

The Motto of LGW is "it's always Hollands fault".

I remember when a few members here would blame him when certain players were playing over other players.
