This move sounds like a bit of insurance with Howard being exposed, and questions with Mrazek and even more so, Coreau. If Howard isn't claimed by Vegas, or maybe even if he is and a solid NHL backup is available, then this guy will start the season in GR and battle with Coreau for the starting job and first call up if/when needed. Hopefully though, this move pushes Petr to be better next season. He must know quite a bit about this guy, and if he really is that good of a goalie, then Petr will know he needs to take the starting job seriously or be pushed out.

Detroit's always done a s***ty job with handling their goalies

Not sure what Detroit did s***ty here. He had to be better than Coreau or McCollum for a spot in GR, but he wasn't. Kinda like with Brunner, we took a flyer on the guy, but it didn't work out. These things happen. Failure by a player to succeed does not automatically equal mishandling by management.

Dissapointing he didn't work out. Another goalie gone. Kenny has to get an NHL quality backup for Howard this summer. Coreau can stay in the AHL where he can actually handle the level of play, and should be done as far as a spot in Detroit goes. Like to see some additions to the depth chart in goal somehow too, whether through later draft rounds or free agency. It's very thin.

This one was obvious, he didn´t want to stay overseas...

Funny/interesting fact - he signed contract with Sparta Prague, who just acquired Uwe Krupp as a head coach.

History repeating itself? Things just never seem to turn out well for Spartans.

Kenny stated in an interview recently that his system is to always have 5 available goalies. 2 in Detroit, 2 in GR, and 1 in Toledo.

Right now our depth is Howard and Fulcher, with no one else signed. Not even sure if Fulcher can go pro or not next year, even so he would probably be the Toledo goalie.

My guess is McCollum and Coreau are re-signed for GR, an FA is brought in to backstop Howard, and either Fulcher or a young prospect type FA (like Machovsky) will be in Toledo

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Fulcher will be in Grand Rapids or (more likely) Toledo (at least to start) next season. I've never seen the kid play but he's currently in the OHL finals, so that can't be a bad thing...

I forgot guys like Larsson and Petruzzelli aren't signed.

Fulcher can still play one more OHL season as an overager, and probably will. Hamilton will want to hang onto him. Even if they aren't in the playoff picture, they can flip him for assets. He's improved his numbers a lot from last season, has only three losses in 15 games these playoffs, Hamilton steamrolled everyone so far. There's no reason for the Wings to insist he turn pro. If things are run right, he shouldn't be rushed.
