Lets wait for him to play a few seasons in detroit before we put him in the HOF or call him a bust. If he becomes a #1c or a #2c or a #1 f does it really matter? Nope. We need him to become a 25 goal + per year player. I dont care if it is as a winger or center or if its on the top line or second line. BTW at the time of the injury Rasmussen had played 22 games and had 16 goals and 31 points. Just for a reference Tippett had also played 22 games and had 14 goals and 31 points. Point is same production. 1 Keep Your Stick On the Ice reacted to this
Richdg 267 Report post Posted March 1, 2018 Was wondering how things were going for Ras vs. Tippett vs. Vilardi-the 2 keys many said we needed over Ras. To date here are the stats: Rasmussen 32 games 24 goals which is .75 goals per game and 25 assists Tippett 43 games 29 goals which is .67 goals per game and 32 assists Vilardi 23 games 14 goals which is .61 goals per game and 29 assists. All have missed games for one reason or another. Rasmuusen and Vilardi for surgery/injuries and Tippet started in the NHL. None are dominating their league but are playing well. Really not much that seperates them at the Junior level.

Really not much that seperates them at the Junior level. Why are you judging them only on goals per game? Why not points per game? Because it's clear that Vilardi is far and away the best point producer. Rasmussen - 1.29 points per game (24th in the WHL) Tippett - 1.42 points per game (12th in the OHL) Vilardi - 1.87 points per game (2nd in the OHL) I can understand judging pure goal scoring wingers (like Tippett) on goals per game, but centers should always be judged more on assists and total points, not goals... Vilardi is and has been the better player at the junior level, and I think he will be at the pro level as well. I hope I'm wrong... I'm really rooting for Big Ras, but his production thus far at the junior level has been pretty underwhelming. I was hoping he'd finish this season at, or close to 2 points per game. Unfortunately, he's nowhere close to that...

I don't even mean this as an insult, but he's legitimately just incapable of understanding. Every time I go over numbers with him he just blatantly doesn't understand how they're recorded or how to interpret them. High school level stuff. My point is, I don't think he has any ill will, or is trolling. He literally just ignorantly posts wrong stats. The interesting part is he always extrapolates big "conclusions" from these stats. No way he continues his current pace (3.5 points per game), but I'd be happy if he can keep it around 2 PPG throughout the playoffs. He had a less than stellar regular season. He needs to make up for it with a monster playoffs.

Dabura 12,207 Report post Posted March 31, 2018 5 goals and 7 assists through four games. Americans sweep the Rockets. I'm gonna be mad if Rasmussen doesn't make the team out of camp next season. I don't think spending another season in the WHL is going to do much for his development. Could even hurt his development. He needs to be playing with and against grown men. He needs to be playing with and against grown men. I’m starting to think he should make the team as well. I guess we’ll see how he does the rest of the playoffs and in training camp. He still needs to work his ass off and prove he should be on the roster. I honestly think that he may have played it safe during the regular season with the wrist injury and all. Then once playoffs hit he stepped his game up. Funs over time to dominate. 1 Dabura reacted to this

I honestly think that he may have played it safe during the regular season with the wrist injury and all. Then once playoffs hit he stepped his game up. Funs over time to dominate. I could be in the minority on this, but I'm perfectly fine with the numbers he's put up this season. One reason: the two wrist injuries he's had to come back from, like you mentioned. Another reason, which I've talked about before: we drafted him with the understanding that he's sort of a power play specialist -- i.e. not a pure scorer (Mantha) or a dynamic two-way center (Larkin), i.e. not necessarily someone we should be expecting to put up ridiculous numbers at this time or at any point in the future. (And, indeed, this is why I and others were unhappy with the decision to take him at 9th overall.) Kind of like Franzen, who people had pegged as an unremarkable 3C when we drafted him and who didn't become a true scorer at the NHL level until his third or fourth season. I suspect Rasmussen could be one of those players whose production (or lack thereof) very much depends on the talent level of the team he's playing for and the specific players he's playing with. We're arguably seeing that with Hicketts right now -- disappointing AHL season (at least from a production standpoint), but he's putting up points as a Red Wing and making our team better and helping us win games. Granted, the Wings aren't stacked with really high-end talent, but I think there's a fit there between player and team that would be beneficial for both parties, starting next season. He still has to earn it in camp, though. Totally agree. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted April 8, 2018 Rasmussen continues to torch the WHL playoffs with 19 points (9 goals, 10 assists) in 6 games. This is the sort of production I was hoping to see out of him all season. He's really starting to show that he was worthy of that top 10 pick. Tri-City swept Kelowna in the first round, and are up 2-0 on Victoria in the second round. They look like they may go on a deep run, which is great, but I also want to see them knocked out, so Ras can help the Griffins go on a deep run... This will likely be the only time Rasmussen gets a chance to play in the AHL. If he continues to dominate the WHL playoffs, and impresses in the AHL playoffs, has a good summer / training camp, he will likely make the Red Wings full time next season. It's either another year of junior or NHL for him next season, he cannot play in the AHL (except when the WHL season is officially over). 1 Dabura reacted to this

Rasmussen, who was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the first round, ninth overall, of the 2017 NHL Draft, registered seven points (4G-3A) and a plus-five rating in two games as the Americans took a commanding 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven Round Two series against the Victoria Royals in the 2018 WHL Playoffs. In the series-opening game Friday, Rasmussen had a goal and three points as his team won by a 7-0 result. The Surrey, B.C. product scored the opening goal of the game, having it stand up as the game-winner. He also picked up a primary assist on the insurance goal and a power play assist later in the game. He led a sweep of the three stars of the game and was also named the first star of the night across the WHL. A night later, Rasmussen recorded the first hat trick of his WHL Playoffs career in a 4-1 win for the Americans. Rasmussen scored the first, second, and fourth goals for the Americans, once again picking up the game-winning goal. He also had a primary assist on Morgan Geekie’s third period goal to factor into all four of the Americans’ goals. Rasmussen once again earned first star honours of the game and across the WHL for the evening. Overall, Rasmussen finished with five points (3G-2A) at even strength and two points (1G-1A) on the power play. The first two games have been a continuation of Rasmussen’s successful voyage into the 2018 WHL Playoffs. Through six games this post-season, the 6-foot-6, 221-pound forward has 19 points (9G-10A), featuring four power-play goals and a pair of game-winning goals. --- Michael Rasmussen exists to make me look stupid.
