Jacob Trouba time! I've been against trading him, but damn, he just doesn't want to budge.

Trouba isn't happening. I'd love to be wrong on that, but I don't think I am. Josh Morrissey would probably be a more realistic Jets target, and he's pretty good, so I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to it.

If we do trade AA, we need to get a defenseman back. More specifically, a young high-end defenseman with top-two potential, e.g. the aforementioned Morrissey, Julius Honka (DAL), Haydn Fleury (CAR), Jake Bean (CAR), Travis Sanheim (PHI), Samuel Girard (NSH), Dante Fabbro (NSH), Thomas Chabot (OTT).

I would like about anything to even have E gone. It is harsh, but i would do about 2 victory laps around my yard.

One of the few things all of us here can agree on. (I think?)

He seems like a good guy and I don't mind him as a third-pairing PK specialist, but that cap space could be put to better use.

For what it's worth, he only played, like, three minutes in the third period of Thursday night's game. And I don't think it was because of injury. Perhaps Blashill is souring on him.

I read an Athletic article about some new drills that the Wings were doing in practice.  Apparently they require you to skate with the puck and make anticipatory decisions.  They asked Ericsson how he liked it and he said something like "It's really fun for guys like me who don't really ever have the puck during games".  Not a hint of irony.  I wanted to cry.

Edit:  Correction, it was the Free Press and his quote was as follows:

“We don’t really do a lot of these things but we do need them in the games,” Ericsson said. “We don’t touch the puck that much in games - we basically get it and pass it, so it’s good to get familiar with the puck a little bit more in different situations, a little bit awkward situations.”

I've noticed watching on Youtube the Wings practices that they had to skate around black bumpers on the ice thought it looked pretty neat.

Send AA to Vegas along with Ericsson and Neilsen.

Clears about $10 million in cap space.

Offer Tavares a max contract, resign Mantha, Larkin, Frk and Mrazek in offseason. Draft Svech.

Cup in 3 years.

Like the other guy said if we could get Shea Theodore i would gladly give this up for him, But fat chance that Nielsen would waive his NMC for Vegas that's not happening.

His goals per game average was just as high the year before, without Vanek, as it was last year.  But what you're saying is a truism anyway.  Of course most of your goals are set up by your linemates. The only other options are that you score all of your goals by yourself, or your goals are set up by guys who aren't on the ice with you.

I totally agree with you, What i was eluding to is that both AA and Vanek had great chemistry together. And both were equally setting each other up.

Will AA's asking price hurt his trade value? Anyone else think its a good sign that AA himself hasnt asked for a trade?

at least not publicly.  I'd imagine he told Holland privately he wanted out.

Lmao he’s skating in Europe and nobody is even offering him a contract. This is actually funny at this point. He’s made such a fool of himself. I see where he’s coming from. It would be hard to look at Holland and my teammates in the eye after this

Yeah this is just getting embarrassing for him at this point. But that's fine, hopefully it will bring him and his measly 100 NHL games back down to earth.

One of the things I thought of the other day was how Pavel Datsyuk took $7.5 million cap hit per year when he signed his extension in 2013. Clearly he was WAY more worth than that; guys making $9 + million a year in the league who were not as good as him. For f***s sake Eric Staal was making $9.3 million per year in 2013 (cap hit of $8.3 million). Datsyuk easily could have told Holland to f*** off and pay him more. But he didn't, took a significant pay cut to stay. But in the grand scheme of things an extra million is pennies to him at that point in his career.

AA is crying over $600 thousand dollars is pathetic. You're already making $2 million guaranteed bro grow up and get the hell over it. Cheap ass.

My concern now is that even if we re-sign him, he's going to walk in a few years or cause a stink when he has arbitration rights. The relationship might be irreparably broken by this point. (I don't think it should be. I think AA's being a baby. But, yeah.) Trading him might be the best path forward. Do I think Holland trades him? I still think it's highly unlikely. But I think it's more realistic than it was a week ago.

Helene's thoughts:

Wherever Athanasiou, 23, ends up playing, if he ends up playing, the best place for him to develop is the NHL. He is not going to get better defensively playing in Switzerland. Meanwhile he is losing money off the offers the Wings have made him (two years, $3.8 million/one year at $1.25 million; he’d be an RFA with arbitration rights after either) because once the regular season began, paychecks kicked in. So now if he does accept, the money will be pro-rated. The Wings aren’t going to trade him for anything less than a high draft pick or blue-chip prospect. The Wings’ offer is in line with a player coming off his entry-level contract. They are not going to budge even if they lose the next 10 games.

Really hope a team wants him and pays out for his services. I can't see this working out well for the team if he returns.

Hahhahah if I were Holland I would offer him $2.5 million in November/december. He'd still only end up getting $1.9 or whatever it is. Just to troll him.

Sadly AA got f***ed by his agent. 23 year old moron that listened to some dude in a suit that has a track record for causing drama. Millennials tend to be so stupid in their decision making process, it's as though someone else needs to grow their balls for them.

Didn't he have a falling out with the London Knights as well? And wasn't it perceived immaturity that caused him to slide to the fourth round in the entry draft? Not rhetorical questions, as AA honestly wasn't really on my radar before we'd drafted him and I've never bothered to look too deeply into his major junior career, so I'm genuinely curious.

Anyway, point is, it might be AA who's driving this. The agent definitely has a reputation for playing hardball, and I'm sure that's a contributing factor -- but it seems AA is known for being stubborn and myopic, willing to cut off his nose to spite his face.

http://mynhltraderumors.com/nhl-rumors-red-wings-andreas-anthanasiou-canucks-golden-knights-toronto-maple-leafs/2017/10/07/

Craig Custance of The Athletic: Both Andreas Athanasiou and the Detroit Red Wings are dug in and not moving from their offers/asking price. The more time Athanasiou misses, the harder it may be for him to catch up.

There may be more to their negotiations than just money, “whether it be playing time or treatment by coaches.”

The Red Wings aren’t actively shopping Athanasiou, but multiple sources are saying that they are listening. Teams are calling the Red Wings to see how interested they would be in trading him. The return would have to be for a player of similar age and upside, and not for a draft pick or someone in their late 20’s.

One GM said the asking price was a young, top-four defenseman or a young center.

Per Mlive:

Athanasiou had been contemplating an offer from the KHL's Ak Bars Kazan but a source said the Russian team withdrew the offer because the forward was asking for too much.

Its pretty bad when he is asking for so much money even KHL teams have to turn him down.
