Obviously the man should not have "powered through" the security in order to throw his Octopus, but a lifetime ban seems absolutely ridiculous given the tradition.

can't blame peta on that one...

Maybe we can. PETA started making a big push against the tradition right as the final season at the Joe was finishing, and also now as the first season at the LCA is beginning. How much Red Wings PR pays attention to that I don't know, but they've certainly heard the message if we have.

It's alarming that the organization went from looking the other way for years, to all of the sudden new building new rules, and started issuing lifetime bans. Pretty big shift in attitude at the drop of one octopus if you ask me.

Hats don't have feelings like dead sea creatures do

Is it any more dangerous for one fan to throw a dead octopus than a hundred fans throwing hats?

It's easier to stick a bomb inside of a hat.

I'm not sure they're worried about that. Either way you'd have to wait for a hat trick. Also if you were going to throw a bomb on the ice I'm not sure you'd be worried you might be banned for life lol

" UPDATE (10/11/17 5:25pm ET):
We’ve learned that the report of a life-ban for this man are false. He was arrested by Detroit Police, ticketed, and released. "

My point is they likely don't want people throwing anything on the ice.

I just thought of something interesting.  Will they ban fans who throw hats on the ice after a hat trick?

What are the hats made of? I say throw out hats made of leather or maybe coonskin. What if the hats are actually made of octopus? Take that PETA!
