This is the 2nd time we've been sellers at the deadline in 20+ years. So when you say "every TDL" you mean last year right?

Anyway if Calgary and Winnipeg wanna make an offer sweet, I just think it's smarter to add term commitments in the summer when the waters are clear. But to each GM, their own.

Prices seem to up again this year. Papa like.

True, but we've also listened to him say stuff for years like, change the makeup of the team, get bigger, get meaner, etc...so when we've debated every year about what we can trade away to get something we need, that also always ends up being draft, then summer, then TDL, the draft, then summer...etc. point is, every TDL it's said player X will be better dealt at the draft, then summer, then training camp. When that doesn't happen, it's said they'll be better traded at the TDL. It's doesn't happen, then....ya, you get it.

Plus, when we were buyers, he couldn't buy good...which makes me fear, he can't sell good, either...

I just hope Smith sets the example and KH proves me wrong.

Keyword in that sentence: "we've"

Teams change their makeup every year. Some get bigger and meaner (some smaller and nicer). But that doesn't equate to trading a roster player just because "we've" debated the possibilities of it.

Anyone care to explain why Blues moved Statsny (are they out of the playoffs?) and why Hawks moved Hartman?

I think moving McDonagh, Karlsson, and Pacioretty, is dumb in respect to each of their teams.

Blues are right on the bubble.. but they did the same with Shattenkirk last year when they were higher in the standings. Getting a first for a guy that will be a UFA and (in their minds I’m sure) making the playoffs was probably too good to pass up.

I was referring to "we" when I said what I said to begin with. I didn't say Holland says it.

Or maybe there’s more to it....

Personally, I think he's done really well at selling so far. If he moves Green for a good price today I will consider the last 2 seasons two successful sell-offs/hauls.

However, he's had trhe luxury to sell in two up-markets I think so far. I would like to see what he can get in a down-market before I can really assess his ability to sell.

I don't know. As much as I liked the Smith-return, I thought we didn't get enough for Vanek, so...

Yeah, was surprised by that too. Apparently they've lost 6 straight and maybe they're trying to shake things up rather than sell off?

Bob Mackenzie says Pacioretty probably won't be traded today. He has had a down year and only 1 year left on his contract so they might move him. It does seem crazy that a team so offensively starved would trade their main offensive guy.

I was initially disappointed with the return on Vanek. But in retrospect I see why it was what it was. I was super guilty of over-hyping Vanek at the time. He was a top-9 offensive-specialist, nothing more nothing less. He went on to play pretty badly for Florida as I recall. Found his place with the Sedins this year.

Yeah, and also he already had the history of being a disappointing deadline pickup when Canadiens picked him up from the islanders so it was understandable in retrospect.

If Green goes nowhere is it time to go after Holland with the pitchforks and torches?

Yes.

Remember though, a lot of trades aren't made official until after the 3pm deadline. Give it until around 4pm, until we break out the pitchforks...
