Truthfully, I feel like I never got to see these two guys often enough to genuinely appreciate them. I hate to say it, but I feel like they would have been even more appreciated in the world of hockey and the sports world in general had they played in a better market.

So, I guess Zetterberg will finish above them on the all-time Swedish scoring list.

Twins are weird.  The Sedins are no different.  I wonder if they always wore matching clothes everyday and that sort of thing?

Both will likely make the Hall of Fame and were very consistent players.  Both members of that 2006 Swedish team (which will end up having an impressive list of HOF players).  Came so close to the Cup in 2011, which will be the only knock on their resume.

I agree. I think there is some chance - maybe not much - that he hangs em up even after this season. He goes from a 7mil salary this season to a 3.35mil salary next. Afterwards, he's at 1mil. I don't see him sticking around for that.

Has there been any inkling at all of Z retiring after this season? Any word of him guaranteeing a return next season?

Z the next great Sweden to retire. :(

Z gonna need 2 more season to catch Daniel, I don't know about Henrik. I think he plays one more season, finishes just behind Daniel breaking into 1000, guessing around 1010 points. The Sedin's still have little more than 200 games played on Z, which is kind of crazy to think about.

I wonder if Bäckström can catch or pass Alfredsson. He'll be around 1073 if he can avg 70 for the next 4 years. Which makes him 34-35 I think.

Glad you pointed that out - I overlooked that! But look at the games for Forsberg -- he really was a beast when healthy, as much as I hated the guy! If he played as many games as Sundin he would be far and away the leading point scorer.

Daniel? Yes. Henrik? Not so sure.

He may not even top 1000 pts. Especially if the rumors are true that he's talking about not playing the last 2 years of his contract. He has 50 points this year, but if he gets in a reduced role next season (especially if we sign JT) he may find it hard to get the points he needs to top 1000, unless he moves to the wing a remain in the top 6.  He probably will get there, because he defies all critics annually, but not quite sure he'd top Daniel, especially if he cuts 2 or even 1 year off his contract by retiring early.

He most definitely has them beat by P/GP.  But if we're going by that Forsberg is the best with OVER a point per game.

Also, its very nice to see the ONLY D on that list is our own beloved!

Hey, if Z retires after this or next season, and doesn't honor his contract (ala Datsyuk) will it tarnish his legacy here (ala Datsyuk and for some stupid reason Fedorov) and jeopardize his #40 going up into the rafters?

Overrated.  His points per game sucked compared to the Sedins.

Forseberg = best offensive Swede

Lidstrom = Best swedish defender

Z = best Swedish two way foward

Forsberg was so dominate, I can't even fathom that he only played 708 games. I didn't like him either (when he was an Av) but I was one of the ones hoping that when he came back, he had chosen us instead of Philly.  His loyalty to the Avs prevented him from putting on the Winged Wheel though. Poor guy, he may have won one more Cup before retiring for good.

There's a difference between retiring with term left on your contract and leaving with term left to go play in a different league.

Exactly. And Datsyuk didn’t give much warning either. Maybe something could have been done sooner that wouldn’t have left a team at the cap to dump 7+ million in salary over an off-season. Pure dick move, lost a lot of my respect for him.

When Z is ready to call it quits, I figure management will know before that particular season even begins that he’s planning on retiring and going home afterwards. Just seems like his style, giving advance notice so whatever the team needs to do to prepare for his absence, they have plenty of time to plan it. His salary is cut in half next season, then drops to just $1 million per for two because of the contract being so front loaded (although his cap hit remains the same for the duration). I wouldn’t be surprised if next season will be his last. Then raise the banner.

Imagine what Z's numbers would look like if not for the multiple back injuries.

I was basing him passing Daniel on the premise that he plays at least 2 more years. After the season is over, he needs 85 points to pass him. He's put up 50 so far this year. he could do 45 next season and 40 the following year and still pass Daniel Sedin even if he didn't play the last year of his contract. If he played his final year, he would only need 31 more points to pass Henrik. Definitely possible.

Ya, he does have the lowest Points Per Game on that list...what was I thinking? Lidstrom was horrible!

Yep. What good are defensemen if they aren't playing offense?

Yep, they always stuck me as weird those Sedins. What was even weirder is how Burke was able to snag them both in the top end of the same draft. He had to find a way, cause yeah, they just couldn’t play on separate teams. Refused to. That’s creepy enough in itself that they couldn’t be their own men and go separate ways if need be.

Arguably, the worst draft in recent history.  Look at the other names on that list.  Burke really did pull a great move there.

Ummm...I think Nick Lidstrom was a very, very, very, good hockey player.  But he's absolutely NOT my "beloved".  If you feel that way about him, you probably need a break from hockey...for like...a while.

Best Swedish goalie? Gotta be Lundqvist stats wise. No one comes close. Too bad we never got to see Lindbergh play a full career. Numbers aren't top notch, but they're great for his era. Still sits 7th all time among all Swedish goalies 32 years after his death. R.I.P.
