Maybe, but all indications up to this point have shown that he doesn't have the work ethic/attitude necessary to elevate his game past where it is now. I hope I'm wrong or I hope other GMs are still interested in him on this contract so they can move him for defense.

Yeah, I was expecting more along the lines of $4-4.5M over two years. I don't hate it, but Athanasiou definitely has a lot to prove...

100% on Blashill's side with his handling of AA. Until the kid learns how to win a puck battle, I'd recommend he play on the 5th line. But that's just me.

He should get 20 goals, 40 points, so I dont hate it. Most 40 point guys get 4+. He is young so he could still hit his potential and get 50-60 points, obviously that's not likely, but it would be nice if he took that next step.

Meh It's only 2 years. If he ends up sucking it up we can let him go. Little pricey but compared to the other monstrosity contracts it's not all that different. Hopefully he takes it as a vote of confidence from the Wings and earns his contract!
