First bold: You are being ridiculous. They want to let both Darling AND Mrazek go.

Second bold: You used the same excuse for Mraz when he was with Detroit. Dude has sucked whether you give him minutes or not. I don't understand how you are not seeing that.

What makes you think they want to let both go? Have you read that somewhere? They need a backup. And McElhinney, as great as he's been for them, has been a journeyman backup for most of his career. Can he handle a full season starter's workload? Letting both go wouldn't be the best decision. What would they do, roll with Mac and a prospect? Mrazek makes $1.5 million on a one year deal, hardly breaking the bank.

Ok Chapsy, you were right that they prefer Mraz, Carolina is officially burying Darlings contract and Mrazek will be the backup.

They're probably gonna buy out Darling this summer and go into UFA with only a 36 year old career back up McElhinney on the book lol yikes

Wow. Wasn't expecting that, honestly. I knew they weren't happy after giving Darling that big payday and him falling apart on them, but figured his contract had him stuck there. They now have a tandem worth a combined $2.35 million on an NHL roster. Steals and deals for days.  Poor Scott:

“It just doesn’t make any sense to have three goalies and the other two deserve to be here right now,” general manager Don Waddell said Thursday. “It’s clear he’s the third guy. Whether I’m paying him to play for Carolina or paying him to play in Charlotte, I’d rather have him playing in case something happens and we need a goalie.

“These decisions are not made easily. There’s a business we have to run. We’re in the business to win hockey games. Contracts are contracts but when it comes to wins and losses you can’t put a dollar value on it.”

Arizona claimed Pickard off waivers from Philly. Guess they were looking for a goalie. And what the hell is with Philly and the goalie graveyard of doom? Can ANYONE play well in net there? Cursed since Hextall manned the nets himself. He was fired the other day too. lol

Who made the All Star team?

Mrazek will do what he always does. Shutout one game, gets pulled the next.

Lets be honest. Who would have had the better season on this team?

Also, lets not pretend like Carolina and Detroit have defenses that are the same. Definitely a big difference in their GAA with Howard being at 3 (which is normal when you have one of the worst D's in the league in front of you), however Save Percentage wise they are practically the same. That is very telling.

He's among the top ten goalies league wide since Jan. 1. No pulling going on. Carolina is a better team than Detroit, but I wouldn't call them contenders. As for who would have had the better season on this team between hhim and Howard, who knows. But i'd sure take him over Bernier.

Mrazek’s .936 5v5 SV% since January 1st is 10th-best in the NHL, and only two other goaltenders have been more stingy than his 1.76 GAA. His 8.69 GSAA in that time frame, which indicates that he’s saved almost nine more goals than an average NHL goaltender would have based on the type of shots he’s seen, is good for 9th in the NHL. Most impressively, his .880 High Danger Save Percentage, third best in the league, confirms that he’s been absolutely standing on his head during this Hurricanes playoff push. Mrazek is near the top of the league in just about every relevant goaltending metric over the past few months.

Wait for the playoffs. Our past playoff history with Mrazek says otherwise.

Huh? Looks like he did well enough.....

                             GP    W     L     GAA   SV%  SO

2014-2015 DET:    7       3      4     2.11  .925       2

2015-2016 DET:    3       1      2     1.35  .945       1

Howard started the 2016 playoffs, Mrazek took over after Game 2. Howard's numbers weren't pretty.

They blanketed the euro twins in those series and the rest of our forwards sucked.  That Tampa series still hurts.  Mrazek played well.

Recheck 2015 playoffs. 44 saves game 1. Pulled in game 2. 2 shutouts in that series,  2 games with 4 or more goals against. He was erratic.

Howard got the start in the playoffs in 2016 over Mrazek, who took the Lightning to 7 games the year before. That's telling. Jimmy never should have been replaced in that series. He played well in game 1. He had a bad game in game 2, but not any worse than Mrazeks 2nd game the playoff year before. And Mrazek got to finish out his series.
