Sure there's reason to believe he'll outperform his draft position. There's also reason to believe that 2/3rds of the league's amateur scouts, who had probably seen him a lot, obviously had doubts about his ability to translate success in the Q to the pros.

FFS, it's not like he went un-drafted. Or is everyone taken in the second round or later a "doubt" to make it professionally?

He was a 1st round pick. But I think folks are trying to act not excited about him, so they can be surprised when/if he succeeds. I say stuff it, hype, hype and away!

The fued was about his upside, not whether he'll make it. And that beef is now over. So don't come in here trying to stir s*** up.

quick fun bit of info about draft picks.

Obviously we all know Fedorov was drafted 4th round 1989, most of us know we tried to draft Bure in the next round, but paperwork scabuffle screwed that up. Imagine if you would, in 1988, instead of drafting Sheldon Kennedy near the end of the 4th round, we pick Alex Mogilny instead (who went shortly thereafter to Buffalo) and still drafted Feds and was able to draft Bure! That was the famed Red Army line in Russia that rivaled only the KLM line. We would've had the best line in the world, let alone in the NHL!

Ok, now back to 2018.

Zadina looked really good tonight and scored a goal and an assist. Unfortunately he got hit awkwardly into the boards at the beginning of the 3rd. It did not look good as he limped off the ice. Looked like it could be something serious. Apparently he won't be making the trip to Rockford, and will be re-evaluated tomorrow. Hopefully this doesn't f*** up his chance to play in the WJC...

Hoping it's not too bad.  Looks like a sprain or Charlie horse even from the video.  Normally, you don't skate off by yourself if it's a full blown acl tear.

It appears, at least early on that Veleno is playing wing on the 4th line and McIssac is the 7th D.

tsn

Quote

Team Canada lines in Sunday's practice:

Comtois-Glass-Tippett

Anderson-Dolan--Suzuki-Vilardi

Frost-Hayton-Studnicka

Lafrenière/Veleno-Bowers-Entwistle

Brook-Dobson

Phillips-Bouchard

Smith-Mitchell

McIssac

DiPietro

Scott

If Vilardi and Anderson-Dolan are healthy is appears Veleno is a candidate to be sent home

Quote

Alexis Lafrenière, Joe Veleno and MacKenzie Entwistle skated on the fourth line Sunday and were considered to be on the bubble late in camp.

Bobby Mac thinks it'll be Lafreniere but I just can't see it.

Great news!

Yeah, great news indeed!

Don't forget he missed two games last week because he was dealing with a "nagging lower body injury" - many mistakenly assumed he was headed to the World Jrs early or something. Anyway, this could have simply been a re-aggravation of that injury.

The Athletic's Red Wings writer Max Bultman just posted his updated list of the top 20 Wings prospects. Not sure what Max actually knows, but here goes anyway.......

Link (paywall)

Here they are. Typed line-for-line from me to you.

1. Zadina (previously 1)

2. Veleno (4)

3. Hronek (3)

4. Berggren (6)

5. McIssac (8)

6. Svechnikov (7)

7. Lindstrom (9)

8. Saarijarvi (11)

9. Hicketts (13)

10. Sulak (15)

11. Larsson (10)

12. Petruzzelli (21)

13. Turgeon (14)

14. Kotkansalo (17)

15. Regula (19)

16. Pearson (23)

17. Holmstrom (24)

18. Setkov (20)

19. Smith (12)

20. Van Pottelberghe (22)

Note: Most jumps in the rankings are due to Cholowski and Rasmussen graduating. Veleno leaps over Hronek, Petruzzelli has the biggest climb and Smith has the biggest fall - which I find very very disappointing
