19. Smith (12)

20. Van Pottelberghe (22)

Note: Most jumps in the rankings are due to Cholowski and Rasmussen graduating. Veleno leaps over Hronek, Petruzzelli has the biggest climb and Smith has the biggest fall - which I find very very disappointing

Yikes. Smith is falling like a fat paratroooper with an empty parachute.

That's disappointing. Was really hoping we had a future 3rd liner there.

He's off to a rough start to his pro career for sure, but I still wouldn't rule out the possibility of him figuring it out and turning into a solid bottom six winger. I'm still hopeful as well that Turgeon can become a solid bottom six center...

The Athletic's Red Wings writer Max Bultman just posted his updated list of the top 20 Wings prospects. Not sure what Max actually knows, but here goes anyway.......

I'm gaining a real appreciation for the value of 1st-round picks and 2nd-round picks.

Consider our full-time roster players under the age of 25:

  • Athanasiou - 4th round
  • Bertuzzi - 2nd
  • Cholowski - 1st
  • de la Rose - 2nd
  • Larkin - 1st
  • Mantha - 1st
  • Rasmussen - 1st

And consider the top eight names on Max Bultman's list:

  • Zadina - 1st
  • Veleno - 1st
  • Hronek - 2nd
  • Berggren - 2nd
  • McIsaac - 2nd
  • Svechnikov - 1st
  • Lindstrom - 2nd
  • Saarijarvi - 3rd

Honorable mentions: Mike Green and Andrei Vasilevsky. :turn:

But he has such a hard shot. He's clearly better than Ericsson and DeKeyser and Kronwall and Green. Why doesn't Ken get off his butt and trade these guys. They're clearly holding this kid back from making the roster. Get rid of the dead weight, bring up Pulk-cannon 2.0

Well he's a winger, so no, it's Nyquist, Vanek, Frk, Abdelkader and Helm that are clearly holding him back. Kids obviously going to be a stud.

Major faux pas!  I thought he was a D! Oops. Just goes to show you how not of a good prospect he is.

Decent article with some direct Holland quotes and some other content obviously derived from Holland comments.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nhl/columnist/allen/2019/01/17/nhl-teams-bottoming-out-red-wings-rangers-flyers-kings/2591370002/

- great things said about Larkin

- nice things said about Bertuzzi

- obvious comments about Zadina and MacIssac

- interesting singling out of Lindstrom as being part of future plans

Side note: Lindstrom is currently a top-pairing defensman with Frolunda, averaging 18+ minutes a game, as a 20 year old. I feel like he goes mostly unnoticed around these parts.

Re: Lindstrom, I think it's the lack of points and flash. I haven't seen much of him, but my impression is he's projecting as a quality two-way/shutdown guy. We could certainly use a Mattias Ekholm type.

McIsaac with a big night last night, 1 goal, 3 assists, 10 shots on goal in a 7-5 win.

He currently sits 3rd in the league for defensemen with 1.12 points per game. He has 37 points (10 goals, 27 assists), and 106 shots on goal in 33 games.
