All depends on what the return is. There aren't enough kids to fill the top 6 yet.

Like I said, IF Nyquist has a bounce back season (which I think he will), I expect him to fetch a 1st rounder. In my opinion, that pick would be far more valuable than having a weak link in an already weak top six for a few games. If anything losing Nyquist for those 20 games to end the season will just better our odds at (Hughes) a high draft pick, which is a good thing.

I'm not for tanking, but I am for gaining future assets while also bettering our draft odds...

I'd be okay with any combination of Larkin, Mantha, Athanasiou, Bertuzzi, Rasmussen, Nielsen, Vanek in our top six for those games after the trade deadline if we trade Nyquist.

As for beyond this season, Zadina should hopefully be ready to take a full time spot in the top six next season, and maybe even Veleno or whoever we draft with our first pick next year. So beyond this season, top six (or top nine) shouldn't be an issue.

1. Howard will be good, but not elite. LGW will call him average and demand he be traded. The team will get worse.

2. Fire Holland threads will start before the end of the year. Fire Blashill threads by the end of the month.

3.The kids will struggle and LGW will want them to be traded "while they still have value".

4. LGW will cry about Daley, DD, Kronwall, Green, and E being on the defense after Hronek, Sulak, and Hicketts get sent down even tho they're all better than the kids.

5. LGW will continue to whine about Abby and his salary even tho he is contributing well within middle 6 F statistics.

6. LGW will continue to hate on Helm and slobber all over AA, even tho they both will have trouble finishing on breakaways, just because AA is younger and cheaper.

7.LGW will demand Zadina be brought up before he is ready because the team is losing and he will solve all the team's problems.

8. Unrealistic posts about trading away half the team and acquiring a half dozen 1st round picks will appear before Thanksgiving.

9. Fantasy rosters that will include Jack Hughes and any number of elite NHL players that will be acquired thru trading away only aging depth players will become popular.

10. "He's Lazy and He Sucks" will continue to be a thing.

1. Howard will post one of the best seasons of his career. Bernier will barely be average. But LGW will call Howard average, and demand he is traded in favor of Bernier. Howard will not be traded.

2. Blashill will lean on the kids heavily and Holland will give him the tools to do this. LGW will still demand their sacking.

3. Kids will do alright. Larkin and Cholowski will emerge as young leaders. We will all circle jerk to this and world peace will be realized.

4. LGW will always ***** about vets. Most will remain numb to this.

5. Abdelkader will be traded at the deadline for a nice return.

6. AA will have an impressive season. Most will be happy about this.

7. Zadina will turn out to be the next Yakupov.

8. @LeftWinger posts will continue to be a thing.

9. @Jonas Mahonas posts will continue to be a thing.

Calm down. Zadina will not be the next Yakupov because the Red Wings aren't the Oilers.

I am not over-reacting. No need for me to calm down, already calm. I just said that would suck.  I really don't care in the grand scheme of life. I mean, does it really matter?

One of my biggest problems with Holland is his activity level.  This team needs to trade players NOW.  Abdelkader and Nielsen are problems that can't be solved in February.  This team needs to rid itself of the dead weight systematically, because Holland will not be able to get back max value all at once at the trade deadline.  The 3 moves he's going to be able to pull off are Vanek, Nyquist, and Howard.  That leaves him with Abdelkader, Nielsen, Ericsson, DeKeyser, Kronwall, and Green to go.  I'm not opposed to hanging onto DeKeyser and Green and looking to unload them next year.  But by May 1, this team needs to be rid of Abby, Nielsen, Nyquist, Vanek, Ericsson, Kronwall, and Howard.  They are a gigantic waste of ice time.  Give that experience to our young guys so they can get used to the NHL faster.  They will either sink (Jurco, Pulkkinen, Kindl, etc) or they will swim (Larkin, AA, Bertuzzi, etc.).  This development argument is nonsense.  Throw them in the fire.  If they burn, it wasn't meant to be.

Honestly, I understand your point(s) but Abby will probably never be traded, neither will Dekeyser.  Vanek has a full NTC with no details provided. (Yes, I know NTC's can be waived.) I think, though,  he wanted to guarantee that he will not be dealt. Besides, Vanek is not part of the problem(s.) Green will more than likely not be dealt until next TDL, if he even ever becomes healthy enough to play. Green has a FULL NTC up until Feb. 2020, then he provides a 10 team No Trade List.  Nyquist also has a full NTC with no details provided. Again, does not mean he won't waive it, but it would have to be an optimal situation for him.  Howard is free and clear, and if he has a nice season, and a team is need, he will probably be dealt.  Daley can be dealt, he has to list a 15 team no trade list and he probably will be the one to be gone this season. I really don't see Nielsen going anywhere, unless a team comes asking about him, he does have a MNTC listing 10 teams he won't go to, though, so it could happen. Ericsson also has a MNTC listing 19 teams he won't go to.

I am on board with you when it comes to cleaning up some of the house, I just don't see Holland moving most of the players you listed.  Unless he can get a 1st or 2nd for someone, I don't think he'll waste his time acquiring low draft picks that may never pan out. Just my opinion...

I feel you.  But Holland has been real good over the last 6 months.  Im hoping it continues.

I am not saying that Holland hasn't been moving players, but I just think, at the very least, Abby and Dekeyser are here to stay. Not that he hsn't been very good at the deals he has made, but I think those two are players that will start and finish their careers here. They aren't horrible, and really, they have $13M in cap available next season, with really nobody that important to re-sign.  If they do not re-sign any of the UFA's, they will have plenty of kids from GR coming in at very low wages.  That is not to say that they won't go after a UFA come July (Karlsson) and then absolutely they'll have to be dumping salary this TDL.  If they trade Daley, that'll add another $3.1M on to their cap. So even if, let's say land Karlsson for $11M-$12M that'll still give them $3M-$4M to fill in from GR.  But that is for another thread...

But maybe someone wants Nielsen and Ericsson this spring, ya never know. I just don't see Abby or DD going anywhere. Abby will most likely retire after this contract and I can see DD re-signing after his.  They aren't that bad, they just need to be in the appropriate place on the ice. ATM, that is Bottom 6 for Abby and bottom pairing for DD.

Prediction, if they're in the playoff picture by TDL, they won't get rid of anyone...if they are out again, I can see a few names being talked about, you've mentioned them, but I just don't think he'll trade them all. IMO Any of Nyquist, Howard, Daley, Helm and Glendening could be on the move, but I'd welcome Nielsen or Ericsson being dealt as well.

Helm will not be traded this year as he still has a full NTC. It CAN be voided this summer as the team is unlikely to qualify for the playoffs, but is unlikely to be traded with 2 years left at 3.85 AAV. My guess is the team voids the NTC the summer of 2020 (assuming they don't make the playoffs or his TOI) and try to trade him the last year of his deal.

With a full NTC, Abby isn't going anywhere for at lest 2 more years. Even then it's a modified NTC and he will still have 3 years at 4.25 AAV left on his contract. Not much interest likely. I also he think he'll be wearing an "A" then, so I don't think he will traded, period. Will likely end his career in Detroit.

Starting this year, he can submit a 10 team no trade list, which leaves 21 teams he can be traded to. But at 34 yo, it's highly unlikely any other team will want to absorb his 4 years left at 5.25 AAV. By the time the end of his contract comes near, he'll be 36-37 yo. Basically, untradeable at that price.

DD won't be traded this year or next, full NTC. Modified NTC kicks in the last season and a half of is deal. I could see there being interest then, but the Wings would have to absorb some salary. Definitely something to consider since the cap hell will have passed, but at that point he will possibly be the only vet on the blue line, so I doubt it.

Daley's deal is interesting. He can be traded at the TDL this season. And with most of this season's salary paid by then, and only 2.2 mil in actual salary next year, he could prove to be a good value. My guess is he gets traded before the 2019-20 season.

That happened one year (2016) since 1970... For a league that is roughly 80% American teams, that's pretty damn good. Also, f*** Canadian teams... Canadian players are still amongst the best in the world every single year.

Over 20% of the teams in the NHL are Canadian based. By that percentage, 3-4 Canadian franchises should make the playoffs each year, one should make the Finals every 2-3 ears and win the Cup every 5. Is it as bad as the meme I posted? No. But it's not much better.

Again, I personally don't give a s*** about Canadian teams... Canadian players still dominate the league. The NHL is roughly 40-45% Canadian players.

I'm a Canadian kid that grew up rooting for an American team because of a Canadian player (Yzerman)...

Isn't the Canadian-born dominance of the league shrinking as of the last 5 to 10 years? If I remember correctly the percentage of American and oversees players drafted each year is swelling as of late. Canada will always be a powerhouse though.

Yup, for sure. Americans, Russians, Swedes and even Finns are catching up a little more every single year, but they're still at the top.
