Met Jamie McLennan last night (Includes Yzerman News)

I was at a meet and greet media event in Toronto last night. TSN radio personalities were there talking Leafs and Raptors playoffs. One of the guys there from TSN, was Jamie McLennan. Since I'm a smart aleck, and old enough to not be star struck, I told McLennan I'm a Red Wings fan, and said I remember when he two hand slashed Franzen in the 2007 Playoffs. Jamie laughed and said, "Franzen went down easy, and he resurrected the next day to score the series winning goal in over time". We made more small talk about that series, and I got a picture with him.

Jamie's wife, Steff, is one of the producers of the radio show he's on. She was there too and I told her the same thing, I'm a Wings fan and remember when Jamie slashed Franzen. Steff laughed and said, "Yeah Jamie will never live that down".

Walking out at the end of the night, I saw Steff again. I told her I got a picture with Jamie, enjoyed meeting him, so all is forgiven. Again she laughed. She added, their sources are saying Yzerman becoming the next GM of the Red Wings, is pretty much a done deal.

Oh, I'll add Jeff O'Neill was there too, but he was kind of a jerk. I said to him, how great a team the 2001-02 Hurricanes were, and how nervous I was playing them in the Final. He just kind of looked at me, and brushed me off.

Whatever Jeff.

Good stuff my guy

About the Yzerman news, Kyle Kos told me the same thing. GM Stevie has been a done deal all season.

Also Brian Lawton was on NHL tonight last night joking about Stevie being GM already

He had a pizza to go eat.

On the Stevie Y news - probably not 1 of the best kept secrets, but awesome nonetheless...Thanks for sharing!

Come back to hockeytown Stevie, remember folks, he built that TBL team for the most part.

He did get to enherit a very young Hedman and Stamkos.. So I'm sure that helped. That said though, Yzerman has done a fantastic job drafting and an even better job at roster management. Would obviously love to have him here.

Stevie Y uses Jedi mind tricks on players in order to get them to sign reasonable deals.

Dubas needs more practice...

The whole no income tax thing may be a little bit of a factor. Seattle is about to have a similar advantage.

If that was the case, I don't blame him. The bar we were at, had great food. The beer was good too, they brew their own, and only sell their's.

Great post!  When I saw the title I was like "Jamie McLennan?  Oh eff that guy!" lol  I remember that game very well.  My wife told me she was pregnant with our son during the first intermission.

I'm glad he's a cool guy.  That's great news about Yzerman though.  Having him back in Hockeytown would be so great!  I kind of gave up on the idea after Blashill got resigned because typically new GMs come in and pick their own coach, but maybe it was his idea to keep Blash.  If he does become our new GM, I'm guessing Holland will do what Stevie did this past year and become an advisor.

She saved that information for the first intermission.  You, my friend, have the Spouse of the Year.

Thanks!  Looking back at the box score, it must have been the 2nd intermission.  I remember the Wings scoring a bunch of goals and she told me later because I was "too wound up" to be told at that moment. lol

Someone needs a new GM and coach

Like you won't be complaining about Yzerman and a new coach a month into hiring them

How is there no income tax in Washington state? They're socialists. Are u sure? CRL?

IDK it's weird man. I try not to bring it up, out of fear that they will realize and start taxing my income.
We also have really loose gun laws for a bunch of socialists. I got my 9mm on my hip as we speak.

Seattle wasn't always as techy liberal elitist as it is now. 20 years ago it was a working class town still.

Enjoy it while it lasts. Once they figure out that having the government run everything isnt fiscally possible, they'll come looking for ur paycheck.

Then they'll come for your gun.

Steps 1 and 2 Straight out of their playbook.
