That was YOUR interpretation of my post. And after I explained it youre still dogging me which makes it pretty clear that you dont really care about the post I made but are more interested in making yourself seem the better person.
Im sure you have never made an improper joke anywhere at anytime (online or IRL).

Whats stopping you from just saying; ” OK, I didnt appreciate the joke but I get what youre saying even I dont agree with it”.

Instead you call other members here s***ty persons and telling me what ”kind of dude I am”. That makes YOU out like an *******.

This is my last post on the subject.

I definitely have made improper jokes.  But I don't STILL make improper jokes.  And as I've already said, at least in this one respect, I AM a better person than you.

Guys, seriously.  STFU and walk away from this thread.  You're only looking like a bunch of tools.  Insulting each other over Jimmy Howards offseason form.  Its assinine.  I would ban you all for immaturity right now if I could.

I apologize and see myself out.

Do what you want, it's a free country.  I just think clowning overweight people is a p*ssy move that most of you would never do it real life.

I'm fine with that.  At least I'm a self-righteous asshat who thinks clowning overweight people is generally a bad, not good, thing.

100% true. I would never clown on someone for their weight IRL. That's just decent manners.

But there are no manners on the internet.

IRL we have social pressure to be a "nice guy" in our everyday interactions. And we surrender a bit of ourselves to polite society to be that "nice guy" so that folks will want to work with us, befriend us, and sleep with us. On a mostly anonymous online community we don't have these pressures, and thus I can speak fully honestly without fear of meaningful repercussion.

So I will tell you quite honestly - when I see an obese individual in a restaurant eating 2k cal in one sitting - I think to myself here's someone with no self-control, no self-respect, no discipline, no willpower, and no motivation. Someone I couldn't set down my slice of birthday cake near or their flabby maw would unhinge like a snake and they would swallow it whole. Then I order a water instead of that soda I was craving...

Do I stand up at my table and yell "HEY FATTY I'D LIKE TO FLIP YOU OVER AND TAKE POTATO PEELERS TO THOSE KANKLES HAHA"? No. I don't. I silently judge them. People are always judging. If you don't you're either not dealing with a full deck or you're a liar.

You're right.  Context does matter.  Some people think it's okay to do unethical things in private, just not in public, and that's somehow better.  It also has the added bonus of allowing them to hide the fact that they're being a sh*tty person.  The context totally matters in this case because as long as nobody SEES you being bad then you can pretend you aren't.

You're resting on the premise that I think what I'm saying is bad or unethical. I don't. My point about fat folks might not be a nice one, but I would say that's reality whether most choose to believe it or not. Being fat is tremendous disadvantage in many aspects of life, and it behooves one to correct it.

Ohhhh s***, I didn't realize that Jimmy Howard was cut by the Red Wings because he's overweight.  That changes everything.  Clearly Jimmy got heavy, lost his job, and you're just commenting on that turn of events.  See, all this time I thought Jimmy Howard had ALWAYS been a heavier guy by NHL standards and yet he's had a nice long 13 year career (including being named to the all-rookie team and a two time all-star).  Thus proving your tepid, post hoc, "he's heavy therefore he's no good" theory even more invalid than every other thing you've said.

About how many posts of you looking stupid and/or wrong is it going to take before you wake up to the fact that indefensible positions (like making fun of overweight people) are indefensible?

See, the problem for guys like you is that in addition to being weak, unethical, cowards, you're also stupid.  And guys like me aren't.

has he been overweight his entire career? I've only noticed how bulbous he was within the last couple of years. Also I said I was willing to bring it up, because it's a concern I've had recently. I didn't say it was some hill I was dying on, nice try though.

See the problem with guys like you is your superiority complex is impossible to handle, and you think you're so smart you can spin the discussion and put words in my mouth without me noticing. It's why folks find you abrasive.

Keep calling me names bud, It's a good look and doesn't appear salty at all.

You arent irritating anybody.  He's been trolling you for 2 pages.  But this type of trolling/banter (personal insult) makes us look stupid, and this site is already at a low point.  So just give it a rest.

As a person who is overweight myself, I have no one to blame but myself.

2 years ago I hired a personal trainer, went to the gym twice a week, consulted a nutritionist, and started eating sensibly. I lost close to 75 pounds in like 8 months and was the fittest and healthiest I had been since my 20's.

Then life happened. Got married. New house. New father. Money and time was no longer there to keep it up. Gained most of it back since then.

That said, as a "fatty", fat shaming does not bother me or offend me. I am where am I because of my own bad choices, poor diet, lack of exercise, etc. It IS my fault. I am NOT healthy at any size, and it's NOT a disease. If people are going to call me out on my choices, then so be it. I have the power to stop it.

I don't need others to be offended for me. I am perfectly capable of being offended on my own. And I am not a fragile, weak-minded person who has to be offended by every little joke aimed at obesity. They just don't bother me.

And I find it hard to believe that there are people out there who are so delicate that they need a "safe space" to cry when their wittle feewings git hert. This is not helpful to cope in the real world, which is NOT always nice.

Prejudice is bad. Hate is bad. Violence and abuse are bad. But if shaming those who shame others is the solution, then no one is a good person.

I feel bad for Brendan Leipsic. All those messages were said in private. And hes gonna have his career ruined cause of them and hackerman.

U cant expect someone to be PC and PR compliant in their private group chat with their friends. Guarantee almost every player in the league is in one of these and wild s*** gets said on the daily.

think of it like this. If Police randomly busted in Leipsics door, searched his house, and found cocaine, all the evidence would get thrown out and Brendan would be a free man cause the police need a warrant to do that. AKA it matters how you obtain evidence for a crime. Essentially the same thing has happened here to Brendan's insta. Hackerman illegally got in there and found things Leipsic never intended to show the general public. This is bad evidence and would be thrown in the bin in a court of law. I read these people who wanna string up Leipsic and his career for "being an *******", and I implore each of them to divulge their own internet history un-edited. They won't, because everyone has stuff in their browser history they're embarrassed of. Maybe you said naughty words in a group chat. Maybe you watched a weird porno. Maybe you follow non-mainstream politics. Maybe you googled something about that crippling credit card debt you're dealing with. Maybe you googled something about that weird and embarrassing health concern you're dealing with. My point here is NO ONE wants their internet comings and goings released, but Brendan here, that's happened to him. Whether you think Leipsic is an ******* or not doesn't matter. He is the victim of the crime here. And you would feel awfully more sympathetic if I showed the world ur weird Facebook private messages.

I seem to see these counter arguments a lot "an ******* in private is still an *******" and "employers have the right to fire you for being unbecoming in the public sphere". To the former, ******* is a subjective statement. Define it. Word to the wise: We can't. Because the guy who is an ******* today is a saint tomorrow. Lots of people think your're an *******, even though you dont agree. And the same folks you think are an ******* have tons of people who agree with them. To the later, what a dangerous point in history we are in. We are approaching 1984 levels. Folks used to post things publicly on facebook and get fired for it. Now we want to invade someones non-public opinions and fire them for it? That's a dangerous road. The thought police are gonna get your fired because you prefer apple to Microsoft. Which sounds nutty but that's 100% where that road leads.

I find it such a shame that Leipsic isnt a Crosby. I think there's such a bias because this guys is perceived as a "scrub". Someone we can easily dispose. Even though he's a human with faults, and hopes, and dreams, as much as you or me or Crosby, or the next guy.  Now he's gonna lose his job for saying offcolor things in private. Is that really y the world we want to live in? We live in a society that is so off the rails if you ask me. f***. honk honk. life isnt even a game anymore its a circus.

Maybe this is just the American in me talking. But I want to live in a world where you can project any idea, however foolish or inflammatory, and get response with repercussion in public and without in private (subject to your private friends). This is wholly a privacy matter in my eyes. And I think the general public has wholly f***ed it up per usual.

So much to unpack on the Brendan Leipsic saga:

1. Free speech only means that (most of) your speech is protected from LEGAL consequences.  It doesn't mean that the things you say won't have ANY consequences.

2. Be mad at the person who leaked the conversations, not all the people that read them publicly afterward and called him a douchebag for saying douchebaggy stuff.

3. Hey millenials, group chats through an online app are not "private".

4. I'm a free market guy, an employee making their employer/company look bad through negligence can be a fireable offense.  It's always been that way and should be.

5. Funny that all you guys who were worried about Jimmy Howard's weight affecting his play/health don't seem to have the same concerns when it comes to Leipsic's cocaine use.  It's almost like you're all full of sh*t.

I do wish Pearson got one game against him before getting the axe, however.

I suppose, though I've never really been convinced that hockey players punching each other has any affect whatsoever.  I think they're all pretty used to it by the time they get to the NHL.  As is often the case with egregiously sh*tty people, just being exposed for what you are is likely a worse punishment. I imagine he probably feels pretty horrid right about now.

1. Agreed

2. This is the thing I have the most problem with, and why I feel bad for the guy. Group chats with my friends from college or highschool can get insanely wild. It's just a buncha bros trying to rile each other up. None of these people would talk like that in public, or to anyone who's not a close friend whom they trust and knows they're joking. Leispic had no intention of making his comments public, but hackerman did that for him. Feels unfair. But that's life I guess.

3. *clears browser history*

4. Agreed, but I go back to these messages were intended to be private and in a court of law this bad evidence would get thrown out. "this isn't a court of law CRL" - I know, I get it.

5. Yeah but cocaine is fun and cool

He wasn't "hacked".  The messages were released via screenshots.  Someone with access to the convo leaked them.  At least that's what FOX News is reporting anyway. https://www.foxnews.com/sports/nhl-condemns-capitals-brendan-leipsic-after-leaked-screenshots-reveal-misogynistic-messages

In other words, the things I said last night to my gf at dinner are "private".  If she then goes and tweets what I said, or tells a reporter what I said and he writes a story about it, then they become public.  That's exactly what happened here.

But even the notion of "private" is an entirely legal one.  Things I used to do in my old apartment are private in the sense that you'd need a warrant to bust in and arrest me for them, but ask the neighbors on the other side of the paper thin walls how "private" my actions were.

My understanding was that someone got into his friends insta, and thus became privy to their group chat.

To me its more like the dude that drilled the hole in the hotel wall to video tape Erin Andrews in the nude. She had the reasonable expectation of privacy, and thus was fully "naked". I think one could make the same argument here with Leipsic. He had an expectation of privacy, but the world is seeing his nakedness anyway.
