Not worried about ASP at all. His legs are the foundation of his game and they're fine. And because they said he's in a "plaster cast" it suggest a bone break and not something terrible like a joint issue or back issue or something. He's good.

Don't know anything about  this guy, or whether he's credible or not, so take this with a grain of salt but...reports that Nate Danielson is heading to Portland at the WHL trade deadline today.

I mean a Danielson trade does make a ton of sense…..

@kipwinger is slippin with his Griffins updates.

They came back from 4-1 last night to win in OT. Kasper game winner and 1st star.

Cossa battled through a bit of a rough game for him for the W

Good stuff.

Yeah, I am. I didn't catch much of either game last night. Kasper also had the primary assist on Sodorblom's goal. He's has been looking better and better for a few weeks now. Cossa too. Given their ages and the positions they play I'm absolutely thrilled with them both at this stage of their development.

So Elmer soderblom is on Pace to finish with single digit goals and barely over 30 points in Grand rapids.  Maybe he's not the late round steal we all hoped he was

Elmer's game has been picking up a lot lately too. He's making things happen on the ice and piling up assists to show for it. His goal scoring hasn't come around as much tho. IMO he has three main issues that hamper his scoring right now.

First, Watson gave all his AHL veterans a really long rope to start the season and all the younger guys were pushed into down lineup roles with little special teams minutes. Over time (and with a lot of disappointing performances from the vets) he has reversed course on that and integrated the younger guys into bigger roles and the team has flourished.

Second, the pace of play really messes with Elmer's game. It's not that he's slow per se. He can move when he gets up to speed (think Mantha and Franzen). But he doesn't play quickly and struggles with the tempo of both the North American game AND the Red Wings' system.

Third, his special teams role is currently occupied by other (better) players and so he's forced to play at the net front. In the SHL he did a lot of damage off the wall because he's got a really good shot. But with guys like L'Esperance, Hanas, Kasper, Lombardi on the half wall he's just not going to get looks there. As a result he doesn't get to use his best offensive weapon on the powerplay and that hurts his goal totals. Think of him like Klim Kostin (without the fighting). Klim was drafted in the first round and has obvious offensive skill. But because he's not good enough to grab a spot on the powerplay he's left to score at even strength, in a down lineup role, and that kills his totals.

I think he's still going to play for an NHL team and contribute, but he's going to need more  runway than the average player to get there. He's also going to need to really dedicate himself to improving his quickness, both in terms of his speed but also how quickly he plays the game. Rasmussen had the same issues and worked through it so maybe Detroit already has a plan for Elmer.

Same as Rasmussen - thrust into the league too soon because BIG

I said it all this past summer, he's not ready, and I want to see him Grand Rapids on a perma-basis for a while yet. Last year was a test to see if he could hang based on his size, and he couldn't. Keep him down and forget about him being on the Wings for a while.

Swedish interview with ASP

Pretty boring interview. Biggest takeaways: he loves fishing, it's too bad Datsyuk and Witkowski are gone, both were big fishermen. His best friend and fishing buddy is Zeb Forsfjall. A 5'9" Swedish forward taken by Seattle in the 6th round last year. Maybe we can swap a 5th rounder or a low end prospect for this Zeb kid when ASP is ready to come over.
