2022 TDL

It´s early I know, but it´s a long time ago we had the chance to discuss the possibility of adding at the TDL.

After 25 games we have 13 wins, so we´re on pace for 43 wins and 95 points which should be enough to sneak into the playoffs. We look like a team with a chance to play meaningful hockey in March and April which wasn´t the case in the last 5 years.

Should we add when we´re still in the hunt? Should we sell no matter what to have one more year of filling our prospect pool? Is the return of Vrana our TDL upgrade?

I don't like the idea of adding until the off-season. This team could win a series, but I don't see them winning the conference. Just making the playoffs will be more than what I think the Yzerplan calls for.

I'm still selling. I'm looking to move my expiring contacts.

Namestnikov seems unlikely to be re-signed, so I try to move him.

I am not sure about Fabbri. I think he's a guy I hold onto because you still want your team and players competing down the stretch.

On the back end, I am looking to move just one guy, max, for the same reason. I still want to be competitive.

That being said, I might be looking to buy if a players will still have another year on his contract after the season is over. I'm NOT buying rentals.

If we are still in a position to get get into the playoffs I wouldn´t add at the TDL and would only sell if the price is right. No need to "destroy" a competitive team for 3rd and 4th round picks. If we get offered 1st and 2nd round picks or good prospects, it´s a different story. With the addition of Vrana somewhere around February we will instantly become a lot more difficult to play against with two good lines giving us more matchup options. Let the team ride the wave of success, they look like they earn it even if that means that some expiring contracts give no return.

Winning is more important than picks right now.

"The Streak" is over. No more trading away assets for the purpose of being an 8th seed. I am ok with trading pending UFAs, regardless of return, for one more year. Still got some holes to fill. Sell, sell, sell. Draft, draft, draft.

Dont see why we cant do both.

Unload Leddy to Edm for a 1st.

Unload Dekeyser to Toronto for a 2nd and 4th.

Unload Stahl to NY for a 3rd.

Unload Namestnikov to Minn for a 2nd.

Add Kane for a 7th.

Add Lindholm for the Edm 1st.

Bertuzzi-Larkin-Raymond

Vrana-Suter-Kane

Zadina-Veleno-Berggren

Erne-Rasmussen-Smith

Seider-Lindholm

Hronek-Osterle

The only player that is going to draw any interest is Leddy. But, again, I think we need to re-sign him. We cannot go into next season with Hronek and Oesterle as our vets on D. That would be a huge step backwards. I don't see any interest in Staal or DD, nor do I see them being re-signed. Instead of trading Leddy, then trying to fill the veteran hole over the summer, just keep him (especially if we're knocking on the playoffs door) and extend him. Replace Staal and DD with rookies and we'll still have a pretty seasoned core, especially with how good Seider is.

Leddy - Seider

Rookie - Hronek

Oesterle - Lindstrom (Rookie)

What ever the low draft pick we'd receive for Vlad is not worth it. Just keep him. I think being a home-town kid, he'll re-up on the cheap just to be part of this organIzation. I am sure he'd love to be part of the transformation into Cup contenders. Other than that I can see possibly Zadina being dealt in a Mantha-type deal like last TDL. But, as much as he is criticized, he is only 22. Same goes with Ras, but I really hope they BOTH turn it around, they are falling down the ranks on this team.

Huge pass on Kane.

Way too high of value on DeKeyser. He stays and retires a Red Wing.

I could see Stahl getting a 3rd if the Wings include a later pick. 4th or 5th.

Same for Namestnikov. Trade him and one of our three 4ths for a 2nd.

Leddy would likewise need a pick attached. He isn't getting a first on his own.

The team has depth. And a plethora of players in the development pipeline. We need to move our later picks to try to acquire elite talent, not just bodies anymore. We need to aim for really high-end forwards. We have ten defensemen with the potential of top 4. We have like four forwards with first line potential, with some guys already graduated and aren't looking like they'll quite make it there (Zadina/Rasmussen/Veleno).

If we can get a 1st for Leddy, then I am all in. DD is not going to bring you that return, maybe a 5th. Staal has a NMC so he'd have to waive, but he still won't bring back a 3rd. Vlad would never bring that back in return either.

Kane was on waivers just a week or so ago, if Yzerman didn't want him then, he isn't going to trade an asset for him. Not giving a 1st up for an expiring contract unless we were that piece away from winning a Cup. If I get a 1st for Leddy, I am using it at the draft. Edmonton will be out in the 1st round anyhow. It'll be a nice 16-20 pick. If I do trade away Leddy, and need to address the lack of vet presence, I will try to sign Lindholm instead. But again, I really don't think Leddy will bring a 1st, so if not, I would just keep him...not unless Yzerman has an agreement with him that when he acquired him he promised he'd move him to a contender. But I am not sure he would make that promise.

Thats the strange thing.  Kane is as high end of a winger as you can get.  He's a fantastic player.  If he came over and said all the right things, would it be so bad?

"Ive done some things I regret, but the past is the past and its time to move on.  Im going to dedicate myself to being a good team guy, work my butt off, and help get this team Stanley Cups.  Im grateful to Steve and Jeff for giving me a chance to redeem myself, and Im going to take this opportunity to do just that."

It would take me about 2 games to forgive him for being an ******* in SJ if he truly did a 180 in Detroit.

yah, I might be off in the return value for our guys.  But do u agree with me that we can be buyers AND sellers at the same time.  I think im making a good point about that.

Yes, we can do both for sure. Last year we technically sold some vets for picks and also bought Vrana (stole actually.) It can be done, especially by Yzerman!

But it's not just San Jose. It's the bar fights in Buffalo, putting his hands on women violently, the casino lawsuit (yeah, dropping him right next to the MGM is a great idea), filling for bankruptcy because he makes bad decisions... and now the vaccine card?

Look, I'm anti vaccine mandate. But you either follow the rules laid out like Bertuzzi or you get vaccinated. You don't turn in a fraudulent card.

Dude is bad news. No way do I want him on a team that is graduating so many prospects. What a terrible influence.

Don't forget he was paying women to get abortions (and reneging in some cases). And he likes to play the race card when people don't like him. He's an irresponsible self-obsessed moron. When they asked his BFF Thorburn how he puts up with him he said "I'm a good listener".

He'll like Vancouver.

There is a difference between a reclamation project and a cancer. Jake DeBrusk is the former. Evander Kane is the latter.

Yep. Just dumb.  Beyond being a felony, I just couldn't trust a liar on my team like that.  What does that do to your teammates??  For everyone talking about Bertuzzi, he was like the, what, 107th person to get COVID in the league AFTER the vaccine?  So you can get it... you can transmit it... even if you're vaccinated.  But, your symptoms are lessened. Great - he's a 26-year-old professional athlete, I think he'll be able to handle the symptoms.

So I don't think his unvaccinated status is this ultra-dangerous, baby-killing, grandma-murdering decision that the media would have you think. Personally, the ramifications put in place are way too extreme for these guys. But, when you're employed, you follow the rules put in place by your employer or you find other work. I do think you accept the consequences of your decision, and turning in a fake vaccine card to avoid conditions put in place is ridiculously deceitful.

BTW, my biggest frustration with this whole COVID thing... I was feeling ill.  Tested negative, rapid AND THEN PCR.  Then I had sinus surgery. Then I had COVID a few days later.

So I'm either the most unluckiest guy on the planet, or testing is STILL faulty two years into this. It's the same FALSE sense of security and immunity that the vaccine gives.

I got Covid in Oct, 2019.  We just called it the flu back then, though.

I had it that following January.  The owner of our company came back from a month-long trip to Northern Italy to celebrate his 60th birthday. Guess which country had the earliest outbreak (outside of China)?   Yep.  He was sick for weeks after he got back, too.

Myself and another employee developed a wicked cough.  We both had the antibodies in August, but couldn't point to another time being sick except BEFORE the "official" start time.

Made it all the way to last month and caught it again. Lucky me.  Worst issue now is the loss of smell.  F'ing weird.  We have two little ones and you don't realize how much familiarity smells give you; I still rock the one to sleep while softly mouthing words to his repeated country "sleep" song, and it's weird not being able to smell him while doing it.  Or my wife's hair after a shower; she just got back from Florida and I was trying to get some (yeah, married... didn't work), but I suddenly realized when I was rubbing her shoulders that I couldn't smell her. It's not something that I actively seek out (i.e. it's not a fetish) but realizing it was absent was stunning. Still have my taste, but no smell is driving me bonkers.

That must be driving you nuts.  I know exactly what you mean.  The little rythyms you get in while going thru life are important.
