Not a very pretty start. Get Alfie away from Bertuzzi and Glendening.

The lack of faith and support for our team in this forum is just insane.  Just shows how spoiled we really are.  The Wings have made the playoffs for as long as I have been a fan, and if they miss out this year, then I am not bailing on them.  I fail to see why some here are willing to give up, bash the team, and insult the management.  Support your team, through thick and thin.  Its what supporting a team is all about.

As for the game tonight, the Blue Jackets should be commended.  They came through with a win when they needed it.

As for the Wings, they have 18 more games to fight their way into the post season.

Where did anyone stop supporting the team or bail on them? We wouldn't be here if that was the case. There's a difference between giving up and realistically assessing the Red Wings current troublesome position.

Had a chance to jump all over Columbus in the first and ended up tied. Beyond that, hasn't been very pretty and you knew how the third period would end up with this team.

If Nyquist and Franzen aren't scorching hot, it's a struggle to score goals and the defense is nowhere near strong enough to compensate. The other two lines besides the kids are black holes.

Brad Watson is so terrible at his job. In a league of incompetent officials, he's among the worst.

No penalty for that cross check on Jurco earlier either. They never miss a slight hook and overlook something like that.

Why do the Blue Jackets have banners of every team logo hanging up?

What else are they going to hang up? That one playoff appearance banner would be mighty lonely.

Smith should be benched. I'm not even kidding. PATHETIC! He should know better that the team comes first. What a rookie move.

It was irrelevant. The cross check was negated by the dive. The refs were only calling two for boarding, so Smith having balls didn't cost the team at all.

Smith is a moron for retaliating!

If he didn't, there would be moaning about the Wings never defending themselves. I'm glad Smith stood up for himself. One of the few on the team that actually would.

Kid line looks excellent. This could easily be 3-0 already. Much more jump than at any point on Sunday.

That should be five and a game.

#2494249 Detroit D performance

I think the fact that you're comparing scoring between Ericsson and Quincey just shows the ridiculousness of this argument.

It should be obvious at this point that neither player is relied on for the offensive production so I'm not sure why we're using that as a measuring point for their value to the team.

E was never going to be relied on for point production obviously. I was using it as a barometer for how pathetic Quincey has been offensively. Why wouldn't Quincey be expected to contribute offense? He did with other teams and he sure as hell isn't close to earning four million dollars for his defense (unlike E).

Quincey has no value -- that's ultimately my point. You can't be a four million dollar player getting 20 minutes per game and have ten points while also being poor defensively.

How many points do people expect a guy like Quincey or even Smith to get when they don't even get a sniff of PP time.

I know the popular thing to do is hate on Quincey but let's get real here...

Per Game Average Powerplay Time:

Quincey: 22 seconds
Smith: 8 seconds
Kindl: 2 min 17 seconds

I think it's obvious who the real underperformer is.

Quincey plays 20 minutes per game and has ten points. E, who is the furthest thing from being an offensive d-man, has more points in 20 fewer games. Quincey is a massive failure in both ends. He produced offensively before coming back to Detroit and has contributed nothing since despite playing decent minutes.

Smith should get PP time and for some unknown reason still doesn't get an opportunity. Quincey doesn't get PP time because he hasn't shown a lick of offensive skills.

"But, but, but Holland is a terrible GM and we didn't need Legwand and needed better defence." - half the people on the board last week.

The second half was and is still true. You can have both as needs.

yep and cannot ever make that one save they need at the right moment. D is struggling, but our goaltending is downright abysmal...

How can you put up stats like those and never make a clutch save? The goalie is struggling now and defense is still atrocious, just like last season. Except Jimmy hasn't been able to bail them out as often.

What has Jimmy done since those three left?

2.13 GAA, .923 save percentage last regular season. Easily the biggest reason the Red Wings made the playoffs at all. Followed that up with a 2.44 GAA and .924 save percentage against the top two seeds in the West. Mind you, all in front of a makeshift defense.

So nothing, if you only want to look at Jimmy's struggles this season like he has never bailed the Red Wings out before or proven his worth.

screw jimmy Howard. He never makes the save when they need hum to! Bye bye playoffs thanks to Below Average Jimmy....

How is that goal on Jimmy at all? Because it fits your agenda to call him average?
