Franzen would not really make a difference when he comes back. The PP was horrible when he was in, and it still is. The ONLY thing Franzen is going to do when healthy is bump a more deserving player out of the lineup. I only mention him in response to someone above me saying put him back in and we will be dangerous. Franzen is more than replaceable with better players that are in our organization.
You really think Nestrasil offers more than Franzen? Franzen was actually playing well before the injury and the Wings can't score goals. The Red Wings clearly need more top-six players and Franzen (as infuriating as he can be) still produces much more than the alternatives on this team.
I get that. I just don't think he's worth 5 mil. Quenville and Sutter have 2 cups each recently. What are they getting paid? Why is Babcock worth double that? Let him walk if he's going to gouge the organization.
Those two coaches have been blessed with far superior rosters to any Babcock has seen since 2009. I think Sutter is a good coach, but Q doesn't even get last year's Wings team into the playoffs if he's the coach instead.
The Joe is absolutely a dump, but it's ours, so you still love it. It's like when people rag on the city of Detroit. I do it too in jest, but when someone else does it, you right away come to the city's defense.
I don't know that I will necessarily miss the outdated features of the Joe whatsoever, though there's still something redeeming about going there and experiencing a game (especially in the playoffs). I'm 6'3" so I will be thankful for any seating where my legs aren't numb while attending a game.
I guess more than anything I just have a ton of great memories from my childhood and growing up watching the Wings at the Joe. You can take those along to the new arena, but it is a little sad that the Joe won't be there at all in a few years.
