#2539717 Kindl on the block

Posted by GoWings1905 on 10 October 2014 - 11:42 AM

Quincey does nothing at all offensively, but I can tolerate him if he doesn't turn the puck over and is somewhat dependable defensively. I still don't like the contract, but Quincey was fine last night. You shouldn't want a four million dollar player to be "unnoticeable", though that might be best-case scenario with Quincey.

First half Quincey from last season won't cut it. Anything since that point is pretty acceptable.

Nice win! Great way to kick off the season. Franzen was terrific -- I have to give him credit because he was fully engaged.

I love having Smith and DeKeyser together. They complement each other really well as a pairing. I held my breath every time Quincey and Kindl were out there, but it's worth the price to have Smith with DeKeyser instead. Hopefully Kindl is just holding Ouellet's spot anyways, though I didn't think Kindl was all that bad tonight.

Jimmy was very strong in the third. People would have been all over his case (deserved or not) had the Bruins tied the game, so props to Jimmy for holding the lead.

Chara is an idiot. Someone should grab a ladder and cross check him in the back.

One mistake, but good period otherwise. I thought the Wings looked faster and controlled most of the play.

The PP, however, never really got set up or put anything on net either opportunity.

all Jimmy. Way to step up Howard.

A perfect shot by a great player and people are blaming Howard. That goal is all on Ericsson.

So, Weiss is just not playing but Glendening, Andersson and Nestrasil all are? Weiss may be a complete bust yet, but I still think he has more to offer than any of those three. Give him a chance at least.

@asktheduffer: #redwings Holland: "On defence, we made a decision were going to start the way were going to start. The kids are not far away."

O...K.

Weak. Holland just took the easy way out again. New season, same frustrating rhetoric.

#2538747 Datsyuk to play Thursday? Weiss to be a healthy scratch?

Switch Gus with Abby and those forward lines look decent. I hate Z getting stuck with Franzen and Abby. Why is the Wings best player last season getting relegated to the third line?

Hopefully with Ouellet still being here, Kindl is out... Now we just make a deal that involves trading Q and I will be happy with our D.  Wouldn't mind trading Big E either...but he is Swedish so that gives him the tie breaker.

The defense stinks as it is and you want to get rid of Ericsson? The most reliable player the Wings have defensively and best penalty killer. Quincey isn't going to get traded -- they could have just not signed him to that absurd contract if they didn't want him around.

I'm all for upgrading the defense using the surplus of prospects if the right deal is there. Trading E though, at this time, would be a huge loss. Ericsson is a much better d-man than Quincey.

Is he gonna score our goals too?

No, but he probably won't allow five either. Mrazek has looked far superior in the pre-season and Monster was atrocious after the new year. I think it's pretty safe to say Mrazek is the better goalie, waiver options or not.

Whenever Monster's groin inevitably goes bad, we will finally have the better backup goalie on the team.

Summer gave it a chance to cool off, but I have now come back to realization how much Franzen annoys me.

"I like to play defense and win games." You can do those things and still score goals too. Your captain does.

Mrazek looks terrific. Always seems to put himself in great position to make a stop.

These refs are making a pre-season game even more unwatchable. Can we play hockey at some point?

Everything and then some. ;) I don't complain as long as it's just a sore groin and not his back.

Lashoff is a plug, but a cheap one. He can play solid defense while saving room on the salary cap. Thats an asset in itself I wouldn't want to lose lightly.
Kindl is different story. You're right he had a bad season. But what do you expect Babcock to do ? Call him out via media even before the new season started ? The Kids will eventually get their chances, but only after the first games are played. If Babs would question Kindl openly now there would be something very wrong with either Kindl or Babcock.

Lashoff is fine as a 7th d-man, but nothing more. He really shouldn't be playing as many games as he has in previous seasons. I don't believe Babs needs to call out Kindl. It doesn't seem very logical though to deem Kindl's job as safe given his performance and the fact the Wings have prospects ready to make the jump.

I don't think we really need to see more games from Kindl. He's 27 and had plenty of opportunity already to establish himself in the league. If Ouellet is a better option on October 9th (which appears very likely) then there's no reason not to have Ouellet take Kindl's job. The Wings defense is weak and any chance to upgrade should be taken immediately. Babs makes this bizarre statement that his two worst d-men aren't at risk, which is basically stating we are going to try the same thing on defense again and expect different results.

I just want the best players on the ice. Not eventually either because as we seen last season, our prospects have the ability to generally hold their own. Again, I do believe Sproul and Backman need more time in Grand Rapids, but Ouellet would be fine on the third pairing and so would a healthy Marchenko.
