#2475248 Injury Updates

Posted by GoWings1905 on 21 January 2014 - 08:08 PM

Out at least one week in Red Wings injury terms is probably after the Olympic Break for Howard.

Huge loss, obviously. Jimmy was stealing games with the team unable to score goals and now they have to ride a habitually inconsistent Gustavsson coming off injury.

It's getting to the point where you almost just have to call this season lost. A lot of other teams in playoff contention plus the Wings inability to get remotely healthy is going to be very tough to overcome.

I just don't want the injuries to be an excuse for complacency in the off-season. Remove the dead weight, let the kids have permanent spots and make a move or two to solidify the defense.

Sheahan is so impressive. I'm just going to assume at this point the Red Wings likely won't ever be healthy, so he will stay up regardless. Certainly has earned it otherwise, though.

Jurco gets demoted to the 4th line for I guess not playing well in the two shifts he got prior to the third.

How many players were injured on that last shift? I missed the several that Ken mentioned.

Cleary, Kronwall and Quincey and I guess now Jimmy too. It never ends.

How does Tatar not see the ice during a 5-on-3 when you have Eaves and Bertuzzi out there? I know the penalties play a role, but this game needs more of Sheahan, Jurco and Tatar.

It's insane how devastated by injury the Red Wings are that even getting one body back is a huge boost.

Boy did the Red Wings ever need a break and they got one. Feels great to get a win at home, even though it was due to a horrendous mistake.

Proud of this team still. They competed hard yet again and that's a positive with so many injuries.

Z and Jimmy were terrific. I thought this was the best game Nyquist has played in awhile. Riley Sheahan is beyond NHL ready and Glendening brings much needed energy. The future looks bright at least, once the spare parts on the roster are gone.

Puck luck! O'Halloran being an incompetent official finally benefits the Wings.

O'Halloran will never miss a chance to call something on the Wings.

Man whens the last time a point shot went in?

2011 when Lidstrom shot it.

Sheahan is better than Andersson.

Glendening is especially feisty tonight.

Jimmy is great. Of course O'Halloran didn't see the blatant goaltender interference.

#2473738 Would Samuelsson ever consider retiring mid-season?

Posted by GoWings1905 on 17 January 2014 - 04:45 PM

I seem to be the only one who thinks this but I think Bertuzzi has been really bad...

He makes bonehead passes and takes bad penalties, and of course hes terribly slow. Doesn't do anything on defence and when he does he tends to take that penalty.

On a positive note hes basically all we have when it comes to a net front presence, and hes decent when playing with Z and D together as he seems to be more confident

You aren't alone -- I completely agree with you about Bertuzzi. He consistently has quality linemates and PP time, yet contributes hardly anything offensively.

Everyone focuses on Sammy and Cleary (rightfully so), but Bertuzzi has only been marginally better than those two. I would prefer all three to be healthy scratches when/if the Wings start getting bodies back. Sheahan, Jurco and Glendening all bring much more to the team already than those three.

Needless to say, I will be very upset if any of these guys are back next season.

The Red Wings are working hard. Just being competitive in games is rather impressive given the lineup right now.

I don't see this as an effort problem at all. Unfortunately, this team is just seriously devoid of talent at the moment.

I'm not even mad. Could have easily won again, just like in Anaheim.

The calendar is moving along, though. Much more of a hole and the playoffs may not happen. Somebody get healthy -- I'm so sick of hearing "the injured players are close." They have been claiming that for nearly a month.
