#2239434 12/27 GDT : Blues 2 at Red Wings 3

Interested to see how many blues fans (cprice?) will be calling Pav's hit on Jackass illegal and suspension worthy. Afterall, Steve Yzerman did purposely hurt Pronger, so why not Datsyuk's illegal shoulder to the head of Jackass? Physics anyone?

In my rule book, it would have only been illegal if he'd taken his head off.

And then wacked it across the ice.

Would anyone here be upset if some Wing randomly skated over to Jackman and punched him in the face?

He showed his true colors (sort of a pale puce) when he had the snit after Datsyuk hit him on the boards. It's OK if he's dishing it out - especially after the whistle - but god forbid anybody touches him. WAH! WAH!!

#2211560 NHL will Look into Fighting: Shanahan

I haven't had a chance to read all of this but I'd like to throw in some thoughts - especially about the statement from some of you that "they don't have to fight if they don't want to". I can't remember what goon or ex-goon said it, or whether he's still alive or dead, but I recently read that at least one of them said that if they didn't go out and fight, they wouldn't get to play. I know it goes with the territory of not being skilled at other parts of the game, but it is still a fact that if they didn't fight they're out of the game. So it ain't like they have a choice.

The other part of the fallacy of that statement is that when guys - especially ours - don't fight or choose not to defend themselves, they're called chickens***s and whatever else is available for name-calling. So it's not cut and dried no matter how it's looked at..

And I too, find myself bellowing at the screen when a good/deserved fight is going on. I'm still hoarse from when Mac took out theTurtle. However - bottom line is, I'm not exactly at my best when I'm doing that, am I? And yes, I'm talking to myself on that one. :)

Yay, Mike!!! Thank god there are talented peeps like you around to make our day/week/hockey season!!!

Meanwhile, I'm going to try to put a photo on here that I took at last year's game with Pittsburgh in Deetroit. I think it's time, even if he's NOT playing.

#2199467 Chris Osgood announces retirement

I really wish I wasn't out of Positive votes for the day, because there are a ton of great sentiments being thrown around.

 Same here. To those of you who show compassion and perspective about what Ozzie did for this team, I applaud you all. And thanks.

 at a -2 for saying Osgood/Draper should retire and for Holland to spend money... Oh boo hoo, someone says my little Ozzie should retire... Do you think he should play until he is 70? He is too injured, do you want a back-up that'll win for you in the playoffs? I never said they suck, but just that its over, they should retire and Holland should spend the money elsewhere, but again, some folks just think the "old Wings" should stay here and never retire and if you say something different, they'll neg you.

I hope this conference is to announce his retirement. The Wings need to acquire Nabokov to really push Jimmy to the next level, Osgood cannot do that.

Nor can you obviously let it rest, can you? You're right 'up' there with the Wings' organization in the Class Act category by making this just a conference call instead of a press conference. The only thing that could save the hierarchy from shame is if Ozzie didn't want a press conference to announce his retirement. Otherwise, it sucks.

THANK YOU OZZIE. Throughout your stellar career and your loyalty to the Red Wings' organization, you have brought us great joy and pride and I for one am honored to have watched you play. I wish nothing but the best to you and your family.

You can be happy the organization is moving on with perhaps a healthier option, if that is indeed what is truly happening, without being a d**khead.

Nice try, but obviously too late.

I say he's back, give the guy a chance.

Are you listening, Babcock?

Posted by Vladifan on 14 July 2011 - 01:07 PM

OK, so I'm like a kid with her nose pressed to the window of a candy store, still wishing and hoping the Wings can acquire Weber. Because it sounds like some of you here whom I trust for your opinions think there's still a chance.

#2194126 Wings re-sign Ericsson to 3-year, $9.75m contract

Posted by Vladifan on 01 July 2011 - 02:02 PM

There isn't.

He doesn't exist. If he did, Ericsson would not have gotten what he did.

Meanwhile, I love some of the recent "minuses" in this thread. No serious rebuttal or points to be made to logical questions or fact-based statements. Just the big ol' minus. Got yer toys collected? I'd hate to think you'd lose any going home. Yeeeeeeeeeahhhh...... :hehe:

I'm still waiting for an answer to the same question.

When did caring what guys were worth on the open market ever get the Red Wings anywhere?

SOMEwhere there's got to be multiple examples of players overpaid for in trades that were total busts - that posters on this board were screaming for early on. Gimme a break....

I just wish I had a better sense of Wings' hockey history.

#2193682 Wings re-sign Ericsson to 3-year, $9.75m contract

We could have paid that and still afforded a top 6 forward and a backup goalie.

http://www.freep.com...6/1053/sports05 This article mentions E is slated to be a 5th D-man. It may just be pure speculation by the author, but why would a 5th pairing d-man get that much money? I have a feeling with the lack of D-men out there E is the top 4 guy.

I will ask again. Don't you think E could have made that much money on the open market?

And yeah, the difference between me and a lot of you on here is that I think he has the potential to be a solid defenseman. Especially with a good defensive coach hiring. The no-hope attitude about him on this thread is mind-boggling.

I don't understand some of the response from a lot of you Ericsson and Holland haters here. What do you really know that's not out there for the rest of us hockey fans to read?

Do you think Holland should have paid Wisniewski 5.5 mill for 6 years, knowing he still needed a forward and back-up goalie? Do you not believe Holland knew what Wis could possibly get within the expanding cap?

Do you believe Ericsson couldn't have earned that much on the open market?

WHAT defenseman would logically go after, KNOWING what else you had to work out for your team, and knowing the price would be overblown because of the expanding cap?

What have you heard that Holland hasn't heard? What do you know that Holland DOESN'T know? Unless any of you are mind-readers, your rants mean next to nothing.

Let us get something straight...

There is ZERO chance that we can upgrade from Raffi. There just isn't that player, or players available.
